@@Otingocni This video wasn't addressing circumcision. Just because I complain about the rainforests dying doesn't mean I don't care about pine trees. Although, your legal guardians were probably informed about the risks when they made the decision. In the YT Short we're commenting on, even the parents didn't know what the procedure was. But I've never heard of anyone complaining that they didn't know the exact procedure of a circumcision before agreeing to it. PLUS, many circumcisions are performed in nonmedical settings. Different laws apply when it's not a licensed medical professional. All that said, I DO think circumcision should be a decision left for the child when they're old enough to understand. But I also don't think it's a LEGAL issue in this case.

I know certain intersex surgeries r done at birth bc for example undeveloped testes can become tumors. But a point of a medical procedure is to FULLY DISCLOSE what they did. It’s disgusting that they’re so “hush hush” abt it. I know there was a lot of unnecessary surgeries done at birth as well to make them anatomically look like one sex, but this often resulted in gender dysphoria.
@princessaria

Yeah, I know an intersex person whose parents “chose” to get her surgery and raise her as a boy because her external genitalia was closer to that of a male, and then years later she came out as a trans woman and is way happier. These surgeries shouldn’t be done on young children unless medically necessary, and should always be done with fully informed consent. Dude the way doctors were deciding on gender for intersex babies is looking at their genitalia and asking what it looks more like, and performing surgery to make it look just like whichever. Parents weren't told. And it was just a guess. On a newborn. A lot of people push for functionality now and think it's wrong to choose for them. If they can pee and function then leave them alone. Ironically it's the anti trans people who don't like surgical transitions that push the hardest for these "gender affirming" surgeries on newborns.

I can't even think of a scenario where being intersex would harm someone physically, so why do such an invasive procedure at such a young age? It seems like the desire to keep everything in a binary is so strong that people will give their toddlers surgeries to "correct" it. You'd think since trans people have to go through therapy and a very slow process to get any form of surgery, that young intersex people would be offered the same.
@SystemError1466
@SystemError1466 Год назад
There are some occasions where it’s harmful, like if they don’t have a hole to use the bathroom from, or if they menstruate without an opening for it to leave through, but most of the time it’s just to make them “normal” sadly and it’s disgusting. No one, transgender intersex or otherwise, should be able to get surgery like this as a literal toddler unless it is absolutely medically necessary. It’s so weird how letting a trans child choose to go on completely safe and reversible puberty blockers after jumping through tons of medical hoops to do so is seen as “grooming”, but doing unnecessary sex reassignment surgery on literal babies is fine just because they’re intersex
@chrisfriday7666

@@chrisfriday7666 The FDA have approved puberty blockers for use in children since 1993. Adults cannot take puberty blockers, adults have already gone through puberty. That is the point of blockers, to delay things like voice lowering or breast growth until the child is old enough to decide. There are rare side affect, but that goes for any drug. My adhd medication I went on at 14 is more dangerous than puberty blockers. Detransition rates are at 1% of the trans population, which means that 0.0001% of the worlds entire population will detransition, it just makes a good headline so it looks more common than it is. Post-surgery satisfaction rates for trans people are around 93%, and there is a 73% decrease in suicidal ideation for trans people who receive gender affirming healthcare. I think they don’t understand because it goes by the name intersex now and they are used to the old term that is now sometimes seen as derogatory or offensive to some. They also don’t understand because it’s not happening to them or anyone around them (that they know of). My mom had a Cousin (distant I believe) who was born and raised as a girl. It was not until puberty and later into the teen years that they figured out “she” was actually a he. He wasn’t technically intersex, but his genitalia did not drop like it should have so it appeared that he was a female at birth. He ended up writing a book and going on Oprah. I wish I could remember his name. I was so intrigued by this story when my mom told me about it when more and more people in the world started openly talking about LGBTQ issues especially trans issues. There are many things about someones body that could result in bullying but we dont remove those. What, should we be doing surgeries on the faces of kids we think are too ugly? Should i have been put on puberty blockers to prevent me from being teased about my body changimg before other people's? Should someone with an extra digit have it chopped off just because? Should kids with dwarfism be, idunno, put on stilts? Its that logic that has historically led to people with any difference from autism to left handedness to be beaten until they acted sufficiently normal. And guess what, bullying still happened!

Thats the norm, they explain the bare minimum and thats it, some people will go their whole childhoods not knowing they are intersex because their parents just wont bother telling them, then they get to adulthood and find out that some of the health issues they've been struggling with their whole lives couldve been helped by hormone treatment but because the hormone that helps isnt the hormone associated with the sex they where assigned they suffered needlessly for years. I know one person who is a trans man he only recently discovered he was intersex and was actually made to go through hormone therapy as a child without knowing to increase his estrogen levels, and now that hes on testosterone the health problems hes struggles with his whole life are going away he doesnt need his medical allert and mobility service dog almost ever anymore because his symptoms are just gone all because when he was born his external genitals most resembled that of a baby girl. While investigating this hes discovered one of his ovaries is extremely atypical and his specialist suspect it may actually be closer structurally to a testicle than an ovary and could explain why he has dealth with extreme abdominal pain during his cycle and that an increase in testosterone could(and has) help with that

If i have a child, i promise to accept them the way they are. Pushing them into a carrier they dont want to is smth i would never do, forcing them to wearing what i want or not adressing them by chosen name is an unnesessary battle i wouldnt chose, forcing them to write with right hand if they are left handed is as pointless as invasive, so I wouldnt do that. I wouldnt try to force them to be regular and judge fish by their ability to climb tree if they are neirodivergent or otherwise special, i would love my child the way they are and help them accomodate into the world the way they are without trying to change them. And of course changing their body with surgery because it doesnt fit into most common two types, without their awareness and consent is outright unthinkable to me. How much do you have to value your comfort over your child's wellbeing. How much you are not able to accept them. Rare doesnt mean wrong, even tho its considered so in our culture rn. We should get over ourselves and stop "fixing" infants to our liking, this is so grim and gross and traumatic to them.

so terrifying that this is legal. to operate on a patient who very obviously can’t consent, for no reason other than yours trying to mold them to fit your view of the gender binary. i’m going to be honest.. i’ve always suspected i could possibly be intersex. when i was younger, i had a weird assumption that i had had a penis at one point, but it had been removed and put into a box on my mom’s dresser. and when i was 11, i had to be put on spironolactone because of a hormone imbalance. it made me absolutely miserable and gave me more feminine features (which i dreaded). i’ve always been curious, if it was really “just a hormone imbalance” or not.

i agree, it does depend though. like what they were describing in the video, gonadal streaks, have to be removed because they can become cancerous later on. still, though, they have the right to at least be aware of every surgery they had as a child. it would be really scary not to know what, if anything, has been done to your body.
@sparks-of-magic
@sparks-of-magic Год назад
With these surgeries, you can wait until the gonadal streaks actually cause issues to remove them with little problem. The internal scar tissue is more harmful to a child. But like the person here said, they have no idea what else was done to them during the surgery, so it's possible they also altered their genitalia to make it more "normal" looking. Which is something the individual should have the right to choose, just like any other aesthetic surgery (mole removal, breast reduction/increase, dental, cleft lips, ect)

For this situation, since they had the surgery as a child, the record would have been kept for 5-10 years after they turned 18 (or 19/21 in a few states). If you wait on these things, they have the potential to become harmful to the body because it literally wasn't made to handle that type of anatomy.
