Maria Stuarda est un drame lyrique en deux actes de Gaetano Donizetti sur un livret de Giuseppe Bardari, créé dans une version remaniée au Teatro San Carlo de Naples le 18 octobre 1834 sous le titre Buondelmonte1, et dans la version originale, sous son titre original, à la Scala de Milan, le 30 décembre 18351 (avec la Malibran dans le rôle-titre1). C'est le deuxième des opéras de Donizetti où apparaît la reine Élisabeth Ire d'Angleterre - le premier étant Elisabetta al Castello di Kenilworth (1829) et le troisième Roberto Devereux (1837).

Donizetti is as great an opera composer as Bellini, Verdi, Mozart, and Wagner. Period. The trouble is, casting him is nearly impossible. Donizetti, btw, is Verdi's master and model. Dislike cold, 'Euro', ironic , spare productions, as here. The singing is not top notch, either.

Les "citoyens" de Robespierre ne pensaient qu'à leur survie, pas à l'opéra (même pas ceux de Grétry, contemporain de la grande catastrophe de 1791): Malheureusement, la mise en scène et les décors actuels sont "recyclables", on peut jouer dedans n'importe quoi. Bientôt on va se retrouver au temps de Shakespeare, avec, sur la scène déserte, des écriteaux portant des indications: palais, forêt, armée, champ, etc. Feu mon oncle était chanteur et metteur en scène: il n'aurait jamais accepté de jouer dans de pareilles caricatures de décors. Figaro est plausible au XVIII siècle, dans un salon, pas dans la cour d'une caserne du XVe Infanterie blindée.

Milujem opery, ale keď vidím, že hrajú Trubadura v maskacoch, so samopalmi, na jednej doske... je mi smutno. Takto zničiť,, to krásne,, je trestné. 😢

Very monochromatic production, great Elisabeta but I can not say the same for Maria...….

She does both wonderfully! I however prefer her "Maria" to "Elisabetta," but it's just taste. The Met production is excellent all around.

she is better Elisabetta than Maria...:( -from vocal point of view that maria role made her vibrato to fast. but her acting skills in both roles are amazing...i was totally hoked by the met production of maria stuarda.
