I think she wanted it too, but the nodules prevent her vocal cords from vibrating, also moving apart and touching each other properly... A simple Vibrato becomes difficult for someone with nodules.
Yeah that’s true, but her nodules were definitely a lot more inflamed in Butterfly, but her vibrato muscle memory was still intact. I think given the changes in her voice around 2000, she adapted to a smaller belting range than she once had, and when she regained that range in charm bracelet her vibrato muscle memory was lost (at least for live concerts).
Yes, but that's cause she has nodules. It's difficult to make the best Vibrato with something between your vocal cords preventing them from touching and moving apart properly.
@@antdiogaurdi8250the thing is Whitney didn’t even have a healthy vibrato technique. She used jaw vibrato which is very risky and not healthy, it creates jaw tension, inconsistency, and could lead to jaw injury, as well as the fact that usually people who use jaw vibrato use it because they don’t know how to make NATURAL vibrato from the folds, so they imitate it using their jaw. Now I’m not saying Whitney did it because of this but it’s a possibility or maybe she just wasn’t very consistent without it and it helped her produce such vibrato, at the end of the day tho it’s not a good technique.
@@antdiogaurdi8250also it’s pretty known that Mariah is an overall more artistic musician lol, don’t even try to argue that because she can make Melodie’s on the spot, she’s naturally gifted when it comes to music. She writes, composes, and co-produces her own music, she MAKES her own melodies and improvises so much, not to mention her melodies tend to be WAY more complex than Whitney’s.
@@BaddieRiah did I say Mariah was a bad musician. She's the total opposite thereof. The lady is a wiz. Incredible. Whitney's vibrato was never unhealthy. She could alternate the speed of it, manipulate the volume, delay it and execute it at the very beginning of any syllable or vowel. About Mariah's ability to improvise and create melodies, that's also Whitney's Park lol. Whitney was the one who reinvented her songs night after night for live performances, be it a cover of the greats, the national anthem, her own catalog, or even compliment a saxophone solo or a piano. Mariah's runs are usually more complex, but don't pretend you haven't heard Whitney do complex runs while sitting down lol, on a talk show and on the stage of an awards show. Whitney was naturally gifted to, and her improvisation skills was one of tye reasons why her band or the orchestra conductor ALWAYS follows her lead.
Vibrato is more than just a stylistic technic, it shows that you can freely control the amount of air which passes through your vocal chords. Vibrato is necessary, even the singers with the most straight voice (again stylistic choice) can do the vibrato if they want to, because it can only be produced if your breathing properly and your muscles are relaxed enough to control it. 😮
Honestly, how come people think London/Paris concerts are better than Rotterdam's? To me clearly Rotterdam is her best concert vocally EVER. The only thing more impressive from London is VOL, but that was bc of her creativity choices, not bc her voice was at a better shape or overall vocals
Rotterdam concert is a strange case. Her voice was VERY free and healthy here but she was flat a lot in her belts, so her pitch issues are probably a reason why some people prefer London.
To see she was flat in a lot of her belts is just straight-up wrong. It was a completely normal concert, pitch-wise. I’d argue stronger. The vhs tapes I think cloud peoples judgment and they’ve put stock in troll accounts calling 5 cent under notes flat
@@ilovetati91 Mariah has an awesome sense of pitch, it’s unbelievable. So her standards are very high. Rotterdam had more pitch issues than London or Paris. That’s all.
@@ilovetati91 the high-quality audio that came out during quarantine shows Rotterdam definitely had pitch issues and wasn't just "the vhs tape clouding peoples judgement"
@@MIXANDMTCH I said the tapeS because it still was distorted as most 90s vhs audios were. and no, she did not have pitch issues there - that derives solely from the era feuding in youtube comments (to downplay one of her best Daydream shows) and the Hero G5. The notes that group labeled as flat were mostly in the 5 cent range - which is absurd to label as flat as humans are not spectrograms. Whitney's best concerts had actual flat notes but you still don't see her fans hyperfixating on those. Lambs need to learn more about how the human voice works. And to say Rotterdam had more pitch issues than Paris in particular is just plain delusional.
@@bestwhitney OFCC!! My fav two albums of Whitney are the My Love Is Your Love album and I’m Your Baby Tonight. And my fav eras are between the bodyguard, I’m your baby tonight, and My love is your love era. What about you?
great video, i love the editing & her music box - merry christmas vibrato 😍 also i love whenever she'd use it in 1997-98 it just sounds so good with the buttery raspy tone
@@ilovetati91 i’m not at that level of lamb yet 😭😭 a year ago my ears couldn’t catch a note to save my life. but that note doesn’t sound good, compared to the divine G5 she hits just after.
Literally the only time(and in anytime you need a friend eb5) during that entire show where she noticeably went out of key. The rest were very very subtle to the untrained ear
The fact that there are people out there that think paris and london were better than rotterdam blows my mind. Rotterdam was almost on par with tokyo(just because of her slight pitch issues where she was off by a couple of cents at most) and had better whistles than tokyo undubbed in itself plus her stamina and breatg control were far better than tokyo aswell. Frankfurt was probably the best show from daydream but rotterdam and all nights at tokyo are a close second. Paris and london was where mariah started getting fatigued in her songs fron that tour especially paris whose entire show was a bit off.
Hi @queenoflambily I don’t know if you’re gonna see this, but I was wondering if you could use your platform to remind people to vote for Mariah to be inducted to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. She is kinda slipping and Kool & the Gang can take her place. I was trying to think of a lamb with big following and could only think of you. I feel like we should make it happen for her. Everyone can vote once a day.
Well we can blame Whitney’s gospel for that. Which tends to just give more tension to Whitney’s vibrato. Beyoncé eats Whitney and Mariah when it comes to vibrato though.
@@kitpaul3929 I would say that Beyoncé's vibrato is annoying most of the time, she overuses it. Whitney and Mariah's vibrato sound better, I must say.
Mariah doesn’t sing opera. Pop and RnB have completely different stylistic expectations, and you acting like there’s only one right way to sing is super ignorant
