Also Jack, her dog that she got around the Music Box/Merry Christmas era passed away in 2008 as well. And she also had a miscarriage this year, but all of this may or may not have happened yet when this song was released.

Her dad passed in 2001 when mariah wasn’t doing as well as people were used to her doing. 2005 is when she was back at number 1 on the charts. Thats what the second verse refrrs too.

@@JackReacts904 The verses are 100% about her father.. her parents were divorced so in the first verse she talks about how he didn't show up on Sunday mornings.. split custody. Also he was a military man and was very strict so that explains how she didn't understand why he kept her in line. Then second verse.. he died of cancer a year after Glitter which almost destroyed her so she's saying he didn't see her back on top of the world.. ie. Emancipation of Mimi. But she said she makes some of the lyrics generic by saying brothers, sisters, grandmothers, etc so everyone can relate to it.

I first heard this song just days after my mom passed away exactly 2 weeks before my 40th birthday (June 12th, 2011) and when I gave my mother's eulogy, there was two lines in particular that just ripped my heart out because after I was born, I was given "Teddy," the teddy bear that my older sister had and just like the lyrics said "I remember when you used to tuck me in at night, with a teddy bear you gave me that I held so tight," I incorporated them into my speech and it was the one and only time I broke down in the nearly 45 minutes I spent talking about my mom. Two years ago, I gave Teddy to my eldest niece (she just turned 21 back in September), Victoria (the only child my older sister & her husband had) to continue Teddy's legacy.
I don’t think you have. I have been rocking with you for 3 years now. I have a love hate relationship to this song. Love her and the song but my 14 year old nephew was shot and killed in 2012 and this song was chosen by my sister as Doves were released while his casket was lowering. It is still hard to hear💔
