I have these song lyrics tattooed on my arm. This song quite literally saved my life. I'll never forget meeting you at Tower Records on the release of Butterfly. The entire album, but most specifically this song has guided me through some incredibly tough times. Thank you from all the lambs you've saved.

Does anyone else agree that these at home in-studio performances are actually what Mariah was almost born to do in terms of her performing career? She can showcase her incredible live vocals in an intimate, well-ventilated setting with technology that properly catches every intricacy of her voice. I mean every great performance that she's given has been either a club setting (such as the Tatou Club), in the studio, or in a smaller theatrical venue (think Divas Live or even St. John the Divine) a crowd that wants to be entertained and to be engaged without going overboard like an arena concert.

Wow she is not out of breath at all with these super difficult breathy vocals. And she even added the whistle to the song. Superb Mariah I love you. This song describe who Mariah was and still is, that’s why she slayed it 👏👏😘👌❤️❤️❤️

See now this is what I love to see/hear she has soo many songs she can sing and not just her #1s she’s known for. It’s refreshing to not see her singles and billboard charting being performed for once. Not sure why she feels she can’t sing her non released singles. This had me drawn in cause I’m like girl we know you can hit whistles and notes on your major releases but you can sing these lesser known to the public songs and still sound amazing and it be entertaining

This song and "Outside" will always be the songs on that CD to that I gravitate to when life sucks. There is no one greater than her. We're just so blessed to witness her talent. For almost 20 years (her prime), she gave us the most insane vocals, unparalleled musicianship, the most incredible lyrics, etc. She used her God Given talent to the maximum. That's the reason I get really pissed off when Mariah is being compared to Celine where stupid ignorant people keep saying Celine preserved her voice not realizing that Celine has no significant contribution to the music world, is a bland singer with no sense of style who sounds the same on her catalogue - i mean what is the point of preserving voice??? God gave Mariah the most extraordinary voice and she used it, and boy oh boy , she served inhuman vocal performances. Mariah and Whitney gave us all thier best and that is the reason why they have become the standards of singing whom everyone is being measured against. Up to this day, I could not fathom Mariah's full control across her entire massive range - it is just unbelievably insane - it is impossible yet Mariah does them with ease. It comes no surprise to me then that every vocal analysis here on youtube is either about Mariah Carey or she is in it. I have been a fan since Vision of Love burst in the scene, thou I must admit that it was Love Takes Time that made me go to the music store to buy her casette tape - my very first Mariah album I will never forget it.

As someone who is going through inner child healing now as an adult, I really feel for her when she sings "I left the worst unsaid, let it all dissipate and I try to forget." It's trauma, and this is the way she could express it. I am so happy her memoir is coming out and she can finally liberate that inner child, the part of her who was hurt so much and is still trying to heal. I relate to this too much. I'm a little bit mad at how underappreciated the Butterfly album is and especially this song. The album by itself is just absolutely amazing and it definitely influenced some significant changes in the music scene. But, I feel like not enough people (the public and some musicians [I know the lambs really love this album]) give proper credits to this magnificent album. It influences so many musicians still to this day especially on the singing style, melody and song structure. Butterfly is my all time favourite album and Mariah Carey is my all time favourite songwriter, storyteller, producer, singer, person.
