She's not the first one to sing in the extreme whistle register but she definitely perfected it. Amazing vocal control in all registers. Check out a concert singer from a long time ago named Yma Sumac. She sang in a range only dogs could hear. LOL. Also check out Minnie Fullerton. She did some whistle singing as well. But Mariah may be the best ever! She's got my vote for sure.

The MTV unplugged version is still better. Almost 30 years old - and unmatched ever since. (Same as Whitney‘s 92 live performance of „I have nothing“ at the Billboard Awards.) Definitely one of the magic moments in music history.

There are literally hundreds of iconic performances of Mariah, but I would most love for you two to react to Mariah Carey singing America The Beautiful in 1990! This was one of her first live performances before she was even famous. She was signed to Sony at this point, but hadn't even released her first album. Ps, you both just reacted to Daydream Interlude as well, which was the intro song right before Emotions (which is also amazing!!) & I'd recommend you two listen to that studio version as well.

Paloma, there were a few artists (a few) before Mariah that had access to their whistle register. One of them, notably, was Minnie Riperton. If you and Anthony want some good old school R&B, take a listen to Minnie...either via reaction or in your personal time. She definitely served as an inspiration to Mariah.
