Mariah reminds me that heaven exists. I’ll never stop saying that she is indeed the single best vocalist to have ever walked this earth. It doesn’t matter what range she sings in, what lyrics she writes, she has the ability to take you somewhere you haven’t been yet, and that’s Heaven on earth. This song is a complete masterpiece. Breathtaking.
This song is so good. And to think it was a bonus track and not part of the main album while simultaneously being one of the best songs on the album. She went off.
Need to do "slipping away" next time, it's literally one of her best song's she's ever recorded IMO and one of the best RnB song's, it's a b-side to always be my baby. Everything about it just Screams 90s
I read somewhere, I don't remember where, that Montserrat Caballé, one the greatest female opera singers, stated that Mariah had to be one the finest female vocalists : perfect pitch, always on key, subtle and seamless tansitions and her operatic habilities in her songs with a big range in non operatic music.
this is one of mariah’s most personal songs actually. it’s about her relationship with tommy and she talks about it in her memoir as well. you should react to slipping away, it’s immaculate!
I love the composition, mood, those vocals in the climax, the male backgrounds. It's from the Music Box era & I'd rather had them swap something out for this one. Same with 'Do You Think Of Me' from the same era.
@@epiphany6189 exactly. I’m from Spain and to me it’s always been the last song from Music box. That’s the first album I ever got from her as a teenager and this was my absolute favorite song. It’s so weird to me to call it a b-side or a rarity.
The male voice belonged to WILL DOWNING, who was unfortunately uncredited because this record was sadly added only as a bonus track on the Japanese & Asian editions of the CD. IDK if the UK, European & Australian editions also had it but this album was her monster selling one especially in those territories so they deserved to get all the tracks available from that album as well. But its being a "bonus" during the CD era meant that it wasn't even acknowledged on the CD sleeve's album credits & personnel listing even when the song itself was on the CD as the bonus track that plays after the one listed as the "last track";officially. The bonus was often "hidden" in that they were customarily burned at a substantial distance from the official last track, so you'd have to wait a couple minutes to hear it as a surprise. LOL. So unfortunate, however, because it was so much better than some of the tracks that officially made it on the album. I think it & "Do You Ever Think of Me" (another great Raritiy that sounded more contemporary, midtrempo 90s R&B than the timeless soul of this one) was a victim of sounding "too soulful" for the one album that Tommy Mottola specifically engineered to sound more palatable to the (White & Non-US) Pop/AC audience in the US & elsewhere around the world. It worked like a supercharm, though, because it ended up being her biggest selling album to date with sales of around 30 million. So he really made the best decision business-wise as far as turning MC into the unbeatahle, Pop juggernaut superstar of the 90s & onwards with this album primarily & also his very prescient decision to make her record her classic 1st Christmasvalbum right after this "Music Box" one the following year, which she resisted initially back then (i.e. MC to Tommy:"You're turning me into Connie Francis!"😂Toommy to Mimi: "How the hell do you even know about Connie Francis?" Connie became famous for her own Holiday albums in the 50sb🤣) But she's now enjoying ironically & immensely the fruits of what seemed like "forced labor" initially back then, but 3 decades later makes for the perfect part of her transition into joining the ranks of THE great, iconic legacy artists of all time. But this one is easily one of the greatest songs she has ever written & immaculately recorded/produced when her voice was at its peak form & she was supported by IMO one of the greatest background soul singers ever assembled in Pop music history in the Price sisters, Melonie Daniels, Trey Lorenz, etc alongside the elegant instrumentation of Walter Afanasieff. Soulful & heartbreaking. This song -- its tragic words, plaintive but gorgeous melody & heavenly vocal arrangement & delivery -- almost always tears me up & breaks me into pieces.
I GASPED WHEN I SAW THIS OMG FINALLY!!! this was meant to be on the music box album but obviously tommy didn’t allow that so it was on the international version. please react to “Do you think of me” it’s another gem!!! and i believe the man singing was Will Downing not Luther Vandross🥰
@@milanpop16 oh wow I always thought that was Trey Lorenz 😄 But I’ve checked out Will Downings now and he’s pretty good! There’s so many singers out there that we don’t even know about. I had actually never heard of him before but I’ll listen to his songs from now on.
This is one of my favourite Mariah songs ever because of how beautifully it's sung, arranged and produced especially that outro with multiple background parts!! The Rarities is a compilation of all her past music that went unreleased for the most part. This was supposed to be part of the Music Box album. React to Somewhat Loved for some current Mariah vocals!! It's AMAZING!!
One of my favorite songs I recently discovered- very hunting! This woman is SO underrated! The emotion in her voice is out of this world apart from the vocals. Absolutely NO ONE in the industry nowadays comes close to her vocal ability. NO ONE!
Was a bonus track on Musicbox for the Australian market so I’ve been listening to this for nearly 30 years now. Its always been my fave track. I love that this is a new track to so many fans now haha
This song is one of the greatest jewels in the crown of a Queen who has a legendary and untouchable music catalog. Absolute perfection on so many levels, I was completely obliterated the first time I heard it and it's just as haunting and stunning to this day, a musical masterpiece from a time when Mariah was at the top of her superpowers.
The most beautiful song from Mariah , ever .. this song still haunts me to this day ! the languish and the pain are felt through her voice !! the choir is amazing !!
I had this on my Hero Maxi Single. This was on the international version of Music Box. The Rarities album cover is an outtake from the Do You Know Where You're Going To single photo shoot, which was on the international version of #1's so the photo is from 98.
The rarities is an album she released that includes bonus tracks/B-sides, unreleased songs etc. Everything fades away is actually from the music box album. Another song from that album that isn't included on the normal version is "Do you think of me"
Please, put "Circles" on your list. It's from The Emancipation era. That album is pure gold. I know you'll love this one too! Love and peace from Brazil! 🇧🇷
This is definitely one of her best songs on all fronts. The production quality, the vocals, the harmonies, the mixing, the melody, the lyrics, the overall "fading" theme that's prevalent through the entire song, the emotions.... just crazy insane.
One of my top5 songs from her! It’s a B-Side from Hero of the 1993 Music Box album. You should also react to Do You Think Of Me, the B-Side from Dreamlover from that same album. It’s also atmospheric and eerie as this one, with a lot of background vocals, beautiful instrumental and great climax.
Oh,I am SO glad you finally reacted to EFA!Every word in this reaction was on point! The track is indeed heavenly, magical, smooth as silk, goes from quiet to dramatic and Mariah's voice is just soaring high over this whole canvas of amazing beauty with both tenderness and power! She is MAGICAL!Please, react to So Blessed,Till The End of Time and Do You Think of Me by Mariah. You will LOVE those! :)
Songs from the rarities that you should check out if you haven't already. Here we go again 1990 Can you hear me 1991 (An original song by her, just like the rest but this version of the song is actually the DEMO version which she had sent to Barbara Streisand) All I live for 1993 (she was sick when it was recorded) Do you think of me 1993 One night 1995 Slipping away 1996 I pray 2005
If you like this you should listen to the songs she cowrote, arranged and sang bg vocals on Trey Lorenz debut album..Always in love had this kind of vibe
The Rarities - is something she released in 2020 which features b-sides, bonus songs, and never before heard songs she did during the 90's, early 2000's, and for her early demos. None of the songs are actually from official albums.
Was bonus track on the version of Music Box we got in the UK. So has never been a rarity for me. It’s my fave song on that album. And one of my all times of hers. Cant believe it was a bonus track. The ending arrangements are just such a triumph
Amazing and analytical reaction as always. You should definitely check out her playing around with recreating the outro with her background singers and JoJo, who you know is a bad woman!!
It definitely wouldn’t be released to Europe in the 90s, a time ruled by dance music, if it was “too rnb” especially when hiphop and rnb dominated (still is) the us. This wasn’t on the us version because there was to many songs on the album and the record label wanted a specific amount of songs that fit in the same sound genre.
This amazing song was actually on the music box album here in the UK, so here in the UK we always assumed it was part of the album for everyone else aswell
Don’t know if you’ve already reacted to them, but her song Slipping Away is a must. The songs of hers I can think of that are a little bit haunting would be Alone In Love, with Do You Think Of Me being downright ominous at times.
So glad you reacted to this! This song moved to the top of my Mariah list when she released this album. And lol The Rarities is the album of unreleased music btw. From 2020.
@@Dion_Mustard Just RU-vid "Mariah Carey Everything Fades Away live". Although they took down her full performance and 2/3rds of her Live rendition, you can still see the 2-3min 2022 LIVE version she did, although she's fooling around quite a bit
@@macabree5856 I am not sure she can sing that song all the way through anymore. It's one of those 90s Powerful ballads she was excellent at singing before the nodules kicked in. She sadly cannot sing anything like she did in the 90s, but I still LOVE her voice today.
