Yes, she was struggling, but "the waaaayyyyy" (from 3.07 to 3.10) transformed into a downward run is a stroke of pure musical genius and extraordinary vocal skills. Amazing!
Is very odd how she didn't lower the key considering she did struggle, but her tone, agility and power is still impressive. It's even odder how nowadays she doesn't have that elasticity or power, but attempts the higher notes?? I know the key is lower now, but even still.
I guess this was the last time she sang this song in the original key. Don't know why she made the key higher here when she lowered it during the incredible Daydream era...
I don't know a singer with such respect for her fans as Mariah. ALWAYS showed affection for all of us. A great artist, an unparalleled talent. Until today!
I love this performance, it's very raw and sincere. It doesn't sound dubbed, because her dubbed performances are flawless and here there are a lot of "flaws" like the run at 3:46. I believe this is completely live, and the notes she hits at 2:38 and 3:12 are surprising considering her voice's condition this night.
Both the notes you mentioned are sadly dubbed… but it does look like she hit the eb5 in ‘lord’! So if we ever find the undubbed we will probably hear an amazing ‘lord’
This is fully live performance with few notes being dubbed. (I thought some parts are lipped many years ago, but now I changed my mind.) 2:39 E5, one of the parts that many people discuss, is dubbed, the original B4 can be heard if we wear earphones, though it is nearly inaudible.
After watching her Music Box performances, it's really sad to see her how she struggles singing this song here, but it was smart from her to ask the audience to sing along since she couldn't handle the entire song by herself. She would have gotten really tired. Love MC
Tone is beautiful. But it just seems so weird to randomly go back to singing it in higher key when it was even lowered in her prime years. She dodged basically the whole song
I watched this decades ago...this in japan live..HERO IS ALWAYS WONDERFUL RAW LIVE🎤🎵🎶👍👍👏...doing promo of CANT TAKE THAT AWAY ( that was dubbed though )
This performance was so weird!!! Why did she sing it in the higher key but dodged all the high notes? I guess they couldnt find the track with the lower key
I’m guessing she was planning to keep it in original key permanently after the Pavarotti show but then after struggling with this and then her voice tiring out even more from other songs she decided to keep it low, it’s the only thing I can think of
Maybe because at this point her voice was more comfortable with singing more parts in the original key rather than the lowered ver. idk sometimes when I sing too its like this where dending on the day my voice will need a different key but at the same time i would sing better parts of another key.
@@DarrenHazel it's very tricky tbh. At some point the performance sounds like it had dubbed studio vocals over it , and there's a possibility Mariah only did a B4 in 'lord' bc the B4 improv would fit with how she sang 'knows' then they just dubbed it with the studio E5.
sweetheart MARIAH SOUNDED 1 BILLION PERCENT AMAZING WHEN SHE STRUGGLE SINGIN COMPARE TO YOUNGE VOCALIST TODAY KATY PERRY? TAYLOT SWIFT? NAAAAH NOT EVEN CLOSE!
Is it just me or does it seem like she is suffering from a sort of manic episode during this performance. Her antics and all over the place and kind of random.
This was also during a very difficult time in her personal life You may find a few similar performances of other songs during the 1999-2001 timeframe (not all songs, just a handful). She was very tired at this time and was not getting adequate nutrition nor rest. I appreciate the performance and I appreciate her stylistic choice to "the way" in a descent of notes. Many artists do not have the range to have that option so kudos to Mariah for that and for giving her best at the time. I enjoy all of her performances.
@@Fishriah_Ari how do u know if this performance is dubbed and not just lipped? why arent these vocals the raw undubbed vocals that the audience witnessed and heard?
