The vocal layering in the final chorus is everything. She masterfully placed the intro hook, the pre-chorus, and the chorus on top of each other and they all complement each other perfectly. She might as well could have placed any of the two verses on it and the combination would still be flawless. They don't make intricately-made pop #1 hits like this anymore.

Yooooo. I’ve been a Mariah Stan since 1995, and Heartbreaker is one of my favorite songs by her. Like I’ve literally listened to this song thousands of times by now and have never realized the pre chorus was included in the final chorus as well. I can hear the obvious “gimme your loves,” but the “boy, if I Dos” are a lot more subtle, but they’re there. It’s crazy how I notice things like this in her songs many years after they come out. What other singer in popular music even comes close to her background vocals and how her vocals melt into her songs? Now I can’t stop playing this part on repeat. I feel like I’m rediscovering the song in some way. LOL Thanks!

R J bodey I lived my teenage years in the 90’s till turning 20 at 2000. Best years felt like I concur the world and live forever. Had a lot of good friends my adventure buddy’s and discovering the world and women. Bonus was no social media and smart phones. The world was a much better place in the 90’s then today.

Well, Mariah has a little bit of part in that, although she plays this Diva character along, we the fans know she is a very nice and kind person, but to the GP she comes across unbearable. Doing interviews while laying on a sofa and those things don't help her either. I feel like Twitter has helped to clean that image a little by her funny tweets but yeah, my opinion why.

I was a freshman in high school when this song and album came out. My boyfriend at the time broke up with me for a junior, he to was a freshman. I remember cutting school on November 2, 1999 to catch the bus to Sam Goody at the time they opened to buy this album before it sold out. Yesterday this album turned 21 years old. People can look at this song at face value and think it is a silly meaningless superficial song , but theyll completely miss at how incredibly difficult it is to sing from a vocal standpoint - the fluidity, the clarity of the belts, and runs . Her persona sometimes takes over her sheer talent that to non-fans, they miss the thing that makes her so incredible.
