The Songbird Supreme’s Road To Emancipation certainly was not easy. instagram: imthehonestboy twitter: imthehonestboy business inquires: muyhonest@gmail.com
Yep and it’s even worse when people try to compare to all of these modern pop singers who haven’t accomplished or even possess half the talent she does. No offense but comparing Mariah to Ariana, Leona, Morisette, Christina, JLO etc is disrespectful asf. Those women are talented and unique but they ain’t on Mariah’s level
@@Dinnerthedaythebanksareopen I love Ari and she is talented as fuck but she is not an icon yet and it's so stupid whenever her fans say "oh but Mariah is not revelant anymore" fisrt of all she has been in the game almost 30 years and second Ari has never compared herself to Mariah she has always been respectful to her
@@anapresley8831 Exactly I’m a fan of Ari as well but she’s only been around for a few years. She isn’t a legend yet and Mariah will ALWAYS be relevant
@@eldonjohnjohn She’s super talented and has had a lot of impact for sure but the blueprint is a little bit far considering music has been around for thousand of years before and the music industry began decades before she even showed up.
I agree, blueprint as far as what an artist is. A model of extreme musical talent for generations after her maybe for those she stood beside. Yes there may have been artists before her who laid down a blueprint but music has evolved and she is apart of that evolvement with her voice, writing and production. She is not only blueprint out there is apart of that list.
@@concamon1364 You do realise Mariah Carey is the blueprint right like she is the embodiment of not only an artist! But she is the embodiment for a female artists a singer songwriter producer
She is the blueprint. She voice , to her artistry, writing , producing , directing . She has it all . And speaking only Vocally vision of love is the blueprint song for singers
Don’t get me wrong I really respect her as a vocalist, but one of the greatest to enter music? That’s some reaching, maybe I’ve been spoiled because I listen to the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Kanye West, Deftones, Brand New, Kendrick Lamar, Architects, and other artists whose music I can say legitimately changed my life and way I listen to music, but you might want to broaden your horizons more before you make such a bold claim, dude, she may have some decent songs but she doesn’t have a White Pony or a My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or a Devil And God Are Raging Inside Of Me or a To Pimp A Butterfly or a Downward Spiral or a Black Parade or even a Jagged Little Pill in her discography
@@finnmckentyslanderaccount409 so in order to be great and impactful you have to be one of those rappers and specifically appeal to you? 🤔 neither do these rappers have Thriller or purple rain in their discography and are still considered great. Mariah has changed the game and inspired countless artists and introduced the mashup of rap and singing. She has an incredible songwriting talent, writing over 98% of her discography. Just because YOU don’t like her doenst make her any less impactful to the WHOLE music industry, the world doesn’t revolve around you.
@@carloss5376 I’d like to see Mariah make a beat like Kanye, Write a song like “Degausser”, create a dark atmosphere while f-King you up emotionally in her music, guarantee you she couldn’t do anything like that, singing ability is just the icing on the cake when it comes to being a great musician
what I like most about Mariah, is she's not only one of the greatest vocalists of all time, she's also one of the greatest songwriters and producers in music. a true artist who has written and produced 97% of her catalogue, which isnt something every artist can boast about.
@Anne Day dude what are you going on about? She is not just a “lyricist” she composed the melodies and harmonies, she just has help with musical instrument arrangements. To call her a “lyricist” is diminishing her work
people can say whatever they want about her.. but NOBODY is touching her records.. she has 19 #1 hits & WROTE 18 of them. she owns the entire Christmas season & has one the greatest voices of all time. her impact on the music industry will forever be unmatched.
@@cyndixx Mariah popularized hip-hop/pop collabs & vocal runs. her influence transcends decades. Every new artist wants to achieve what Mariah Carey has achieved in her career. she won song of the decade.. TWICE & CONSECUTIVELY. she has the biggest christmas song of all time & now everyone wants to create their own. she helped Jay Z get his job as the president of Def Jam and sign Rihanna... Beyoncé said Mariah is the reason she became a singer. not to mention she showed artist how to cross genres seamlessly. MJ didn’t have a bigger impact than her.
@@cyndixx Who mentioned MJ? You sound like a dumbass by even mentioned another legend when the above comment only said that nobody is touching HER records which is accurate.
@@oh6777 Justice mentioned it first. She said NOBODY could compare to her records. You put emphasis on the word her but she didn’t, nobody means no one in music history could even compare to Mariah’s records. That’s just not true.
She's a GOAT, no doubt. Her singing style, range & body of work is often mimicked but never really replicated. Mariah Carey is the DON of the rnb & pop girlies, past to present, and I'm ready for this conversation to happen.
To put it bluntly, if a man did exactly what Mariah did, he would be lauded and praised daily for his contributions and achievements. But because it is Mariah Carey, she is derided and debased for her success and body of work.
I think Mariah is highly underrated nowdays even though she has given so much to the industry. But I don't necessarily agree with the statement of "if a man did what she did" because in my opinion, at least in pop music, women are much more admired and idolized, whereas men are seen as "more boring"
@@vincevince2414 Listen to The Roof, Babydoll, Butterfly, Petals, Fly Like A Bird and compare that’s to what any of these mainstream girls today are writing. And this comment said that we don’t talk about her song writing “enough”, it technically didn’t say that her writing is “extraordinary”, so you’re reaching regardless.
Yup and for people to call her a diva is like saying the security guard to let criminals in a facility. The diva persona i believe was used as a defense mechanism. Especially considering all the nice things people say when they meet her.
Mariah Carey is a pioneer in a lot of ways. 1. She does whistles in Pop Music, which only Minnie Riperton used with her songs but with ballads and love songs. 2. She introduced Hip-hop/RnB to her pop fans, paving the way for many artists. 3. She popularized pop-sounding Christmas songs. 4. She popularized "remix" versions. 5. She's one of the artists that could both be enjoyed by both male and female, young and old.
Glitter did have a script actually! The original is online and she talks about how Glitter was originally supposed to go in a 98 interview. They just made her change it up a lot during filming (like she said, it was white washed and it was supposed to be darker)
Mariah has had the highest of highs an artist could have but, she’s also had the the lowest of lows. Charmbraclet & Glitter have aged like fine wine & are home to masterpieces. Mariah is truly a LEGEND but also an innovator & pioneer for the new generation. My personal favorite singer songwriter.
@@kaybee126 Pop stars weren’t collaborating with rappers. Fantasy has been credited for years for being one of the main songs to bridge that gap. On a lesser level Mariah has continually set the standard & the trend. Her singing style is probably one of the most notable aspects. The multiple remixes & versions of songs. The music she was releasing in the late 90’s inspired the music but more specifically the production of the songs of the early 00’s. She was a pioneer for the new school & her influence on the generations after her are still evident in today’s music. The runs, the way people layer vocals on a track, etc.
I don’t think her Charmbracelet album gets near enough recognition. I remember being in middle school listening to it all the time and I still like it. It’s really very good.
Why I have a feeling like Charmbracelet has never been released? Was it maybe overshadowed by The Emancipation of Mimi? Or Mariah herself not performing the songs from this album that much recently?
Mariah is Legendary. Hands down the 'Queen Of Music.' Bro let's be honest 'The Emancipation of Mimi' will always be the biggest comeback in music history. Period.
Mariah and Michael Jackson were friends and they often talked about their horrible experiences with Tommy Mottola...you should do a video on how Mottola destroyed the Invincible album rollout
Actually the glitter to emancipation era story made me a die hard lamb. I just love the story of success and resurgence - claiming your own narrative. This is also relevant to us, ordinary people, that despite challenges we can be as resilient as Mariah. I'm always saying to myself, if Mariah survived 2001... then so do I.
albums back then used to sell so much that an album with less than 6 m copies was considered flop specially for someone like Mariah that was super successful back then..
Back in 2001, yes, and for an artist like Mariah it was considered a flop. Nowadays, 3 million units would have been successful. Even Michael Jackson's Invincible was considered a flop back then because it sold much less than his previous albums.
'Lead The Way' from the Glitter album is easily one of Mariah's best ever ballads she's ever sung/written in her career but unfortunately never fully got the credit it deserves due to the controversy of the album😢
she will. trust me. she still doesn't have "Cher Moment" yet. Cher had her moment in 1998 with Believe. Mariah will have something like that in the future :)
she's the reason why i know how to speak & write in english, as a Arabian kid she's the first foreign artist i fell in love with and made my childhood great. Thank You Mariah 🖤
I’m so grateful that I got to see her in a small venue in 2000. She didn’t lip sync at all, her voice was simply amazing and beautiful! I’ll also never forget her wonderful performance on SNL in 1997, both Butterfly and My All gave me goosebumps. She doesn’t have any bad albums, I really liked the music on Glitter as soon as it came out, I didn’t care about the negative vibes surrounding her at the time. I’ve always wondered why there were 2 versions of Heartbreaker on it- now I know.Charmbracelet is underrated, I listened to Clown on repeat and loved knowing that it was about Eminem. ( I am a fan of J. Lo and Eminem- don’t have to hate them to love Mimi) My favorite album of hers is The Remixes, I enjoyed the club/ house versions on 1 CD (remember those?) but I absolutely adore the other CD with the rappers that began with Fantasy- I’m listening to it right now 🎶yo New York in the House is Brooklyn in the House 🎶 gotta dance
The way she is so legendary omggggggg like who literally flops for many albums and then boom comes back during the age people view female artist as to old and after failures to have one of her biggest eras.......
@Pearl Me its nice to see if she does something completely different but she doesn’t need a big era anymore it is what it is and she has done a lot now
I literally just played we belong together in the bg today as my students were independently working after a million years of not* hearing that song... I pulled up a 2000s playlist and now I seee this in my sub box... what the hell
"The Emancipation Of Mimi" was a phenomenal comeback album for Mariah. The second highest selling album of 2005. It spawned 5 to 6 major hit songs. Top 100 albums of the 2000's
You simply can't keep talent down. "All hail and bow to Mariah Carey, The Queen of Divas, Protector of the vocal skills from the realm, Archiduchess of Vocal range/registers, Empress of agility, The unmatched, The Mellisma mother, The Goddess of Songwriting and producing, The one often imitated, but never duplicated, The embodiment of pure success",. My simpleton ears are not worthy of your talent but a simple sung phrase will be enough to heal me for all eternity.
Some people do have the audacity to question her legacy after all these years. It's strange because while her contemporaries were only either "The Voice" or "The Pen", she is the combination of the two and no one is in her lane. It's petty to even part the lips to say that Mariah isn't THE female legend of the music industry. She set the standard and dismantled it. No one greater.
I know so many people that like to discredit her because of how she acts now vs her success she has had throughout her career. She’s a literal legend but she gets disrespected by my generation and younger for being a diva. There are other “legends” out there who have done worse thru media’s eyes yet still get an astounding praise for what they have done for music. Men I know disrespect her too, and it’s like she may be older and her voice may not be the same but that shouldn’t discredit Mariah for what she has done for the industry! I love Didn’t Mean to Turn You On by her btw, absolute bop!
She is the best artist that there has ever been, even after people having tried to tear her down, she is still THAT bitch. Her glitter-TEOM story is truly inspiring✨
I love how she paved the way for majority of todays artists rappers, hip hop, r&b, and pop yet people claim she only comes around during Christmas like she doesn’t have 19 #1’s people like to argue “that doesn’t make you a good artist” true but when u have unbelievable breath control 5 octave vocal range which no mainstream artist today dose not even Ari (not shade) and write, coproduce/produce all her own music? constantly setting trends even to this day and popularized whistle and made it mainstream and desirable and music video trends the fact this generation not only questions her vocals like the aren’t forcing this women to sing the same songs for basically her whole career and on top of that expect her to sound like she did on the track 20 something years ago and body shame her even tho she is thee skinny legend
You cannot really riff off talent... no one can bring mariah Carey down bcoz she is born to be a star. Tommy mottola, virgin records & others that shame Mariah can throw their life away bcoz mariah is still at d top of everyone until this age...
this woman is beyond anything else in this planet. She has overcome so much and i'm so grateful i somehow got the chance to encounter her music. LIFE CHANGING.
But the Glitter album has so many great songs, I still listen to it everyday, the vocals, lyrics and beats are so good, will always be a favourite of mine !
Daydream is my favorite album of all time from her because i love the production and songs from top to bottom. Underneath the Stars was so beautifully written and the melodies hit different
