Always fascinating to hear her discuss her voice. If I could ask her anything, it would almost entirely be about that. I love that 2021 interview where she mentions her voice having improved over the pandemic, though I'll never understand what went wrong by the time she hit the stage again in 2022. Her voice is definitely an enigma, as is the way she chooses to work around it.
Sadly, vocal rest isn’t enough to fix long term nodules. She needs to retrain and rethink the way she sings or get surgery… or both. She’s completely lost the ability to sing in a mixed voice which was a huge part of her prime era voice. Meaning that she’s now pulling her chest voice too high and her head voice too low to try and replicate those sounds live, no matter how low they pull the keys. As a life long fan, I wish Mariah would get surgery, rest and retrain. I’d much rather she lose the ability to do whistle tone and regain a healthy balanced voice as a trade off moving forward. I hate that so many lambs keep encouraging her to sing live while her voice is in such an unhealthy state.
@@vocalbooth8585 you are absolutely right! she now puts to much strain on her chest voice to make it sound like her prime mixed voice. this is why some people say that she has more power in her belts post prime but this balance is no good for her sensitive voice and hurts it even more. It's a vicious circle
Like she said - lack of sleep, but it's also a lack of practice. You can tell she hasn't been doing the maintenance or upkeep. Usually, when she goes back into singing mode and gets those muscles exercised again, she'll be able to gain a lot back. It's also important that she ditches the corsets, you need air to sing, especially the way Mariah sings. She was producing Some Like It Hot for Broadway, so her attention was elsewhere, she wasn't focused on singing at that time.

Idk if she ever will get the surgery, but I think to manage them better she needs to retrain her voice. Like Mariah said her voice is different when she feels pressure to perform, this is likely why her movements and body language has became more stiff as well. She needs to learn how to be less rigid
Wow where is the last clip from? It confirmed everything about my theory on Mariah’s confidence when singing live. Tbh it kinda sounds like she has some sort of stage fright, I honestly think she should get therapy or do some type of training to ease her anxiety levels on stage

What I've never understood about Mariah is, having one of the best voices in the history of music, she never really cared about learning about techniques or develop and work out her voice muscles. You can hear her in the video: I only do the lip trill and use humidifiers for sleeping. It's not enough.
Swollen vocal chords close worse...she is actually doing falsetto in the superhigh notes than...when singing with pipe register, your chords close ( queen of the night, mozart for example)...I suppose her to be more of a dramatic soprano with loads of agility instead of being a real coloratura like Natalie Dessay...dramatic sopranos start as altos often....on the other hand, she def has the notes for being a real coloratura ( f 5 is the note, where the pipe register in classical singing starts normally, a g 5 only real coloraturas have)...I am a high coloratura myself, could sing c6 without warming up, when I was 17....I am 44 now and the notes are still there without doing anything for it-a light and coloratura voice is genetic, as well as thick vocal chords ( Mariah def has superthick ones, also her speaking tone is dark, velvety thick andcery full.....a very ty beautiful rare instrumental voice...she is sooooo talented...and so intelligent...she has perfect pitch....loved her masterclass as well)

Actually, she's mentioning vocal coaches as people who are academically trained. Mariah doesn't even know how many octaves she has. She doesn't know anatomy of voice as they do, but that has nothing to do with her ability to sing. I don't think pride or stubbornness has anything to do with it. Mariah knows how to train her voice, she's lacking the time to do it or simply isn't. I'm sure she could benefit from one, but if she won't even do the basic upkeep she already knows how to do on her own, she's not going to get one.
She can still sing, she just sings differently now. (And I'm saying this as someone who kind of lost interest in her vocals after Butterfly. I consider her the great singer of all time and still support her work, but yeah, I miss the classic sound) Sadly, she lost a lot of her power that she became famous for.
@@dinara_safina I also consider her a supreme vocalist of our generation but there's no pretending that she has very little control over her instrument. When singing live she is often off-key, has little breath control, limited range, never does a single run, and hasn't sung a song straight through in years. She's essentially a legacy act with all focus on appearance. The truth is unpopular but no less the truth.
I agree with you completely, but a lot of fans differ. They like her new sound and I say good for them. I honestly wish I did. Part of the problem is that she set the bar so high with her classic vocals. That shows just how amazing she was.
Everyone of those artists were influenced by Aretha - that's the whole point. Aretha was the first one to do melisma which other artists incorporated into their singing style.
