Melissa Gorden come on, let’s be real. Save The Day took one whole month to get a million views on RU-vid. She has been struggling to chart for a long time. Number 1 is impossible for her at this moment.
@@hushy79 I don't think she cares. She just wants to put out music for her fans. Using stuff like that to validate artist is stupid. Shes had multiple number ones in each decade of her career. Saying she hasnt charted recently doesn't take away all the years she absolutely dominated the charts. So what if she hasnt charted recently? Shes probably bound to chart again eventually. And even then, what does it matter? Like is said, it's a stupid and immature way to validate an artist. Shes 50 years old. She doesn't care anymore. She's already done what no one else has. She's sitting pretty. Who cares.
Some notes: Here We Go Around Again was the first song on her demo. Should've been on the album. Mariah had a cold during All I Live For. 16:30-16:39 She recorded new vocals ("forever/you are/whistles/I adore/all I live for") for the end of the song (song: 3:02-3:15). They were seamless. One Night was recorded during the mid 90s period of songs addressing AIDS and imploring people to be careful when hooking up with people (a la TLC's Waterfalls). Loverboy Firecracker vocals are better than the Candy version. They're healthier, vibrant, well rested, and less nasal. "Do the coat" from "Cool On You" is a reference to The Devil Wears Prada (2006). "I Pray" was always intended for Lina who performed the song on Oprah in 2005. Mesmerized was intended for Lee Daniels' The Paperboy, but much like 100% for Precious, it was not included on the soundtrack. The compression sleeve/glove worn during most of 2014 was because of the nerve damage sustained earlier that year when Mariah fell off a platform during filming for the never released #beautiful remix video.
Cledyston Dos Santos It’s from the film. Emily Blunt as the assistant with seniority tells Anne Hathaway's character to “do the coat” as a way of signaling her higher status to take on more complex tasks. For "Cool On You," it's Mariah's way of saying she's moved on to bigger and better opportunities for romance.
The cameo version is more radio friendly by todays standards but i feel that the im real version would have done well since the early 2000s and late 90s was chalk full of weird sounding songs that by todays standards sound kind of cheap. I love the firecracker version though its quirky.
A woman who knows how keep herself relevant, iconic and now we take a journey from Baby Mariah, her loss, wins on her Memoir, to her un released demos, to her disc 2 featuring her biggest hits on tour. Mariah is music. She fed us in 2020
Some of you are half lambs and it’s showing! The original Loverboy is iconic! The final version is chaotic instrumentally. The raps are cool but take you outta the 80’s. This version would have been a smash hit!!!!
Sorry Renee but absolutely no one is qualified to make a judgment on who is a better lamb. As long as you love and support Mariah that's all that matters.
I don’t think having a preferred version makes anyone more/less of a fan lol. But I do prefer the Firecracker version! It sounds more in the style of Mariah (Dreamlover - Fantasy - Heartbreaker), while the Cameo version just sounds rushed (production-wise) to me. I’ve never been a fan of the Cameo version since vocally and instrumentally it sounds messy to me.
The song Everything fades away is a choral masterpiece. I'm sure it's about Mottola And he couldn't deal bc she sang it with so much angst and heartache . Her voice is breathtaking And golden as usual. I can relate to this song. When u are hurt to the point something in u dies with your love for that person, it's real.❤️
I love the album. Here we go around again, can you hear me, and lullaby are my favorite, apart of the ones I already knew. I missed Imperfect and there for me. But I still believe she's gonna release the angel advocate, which Imperfect is included.
Here We Go Around Again would have 100% been in the top 10, very likely a #1 if the production was done up a bit for the pop music scene of 1990. It is so irresistibly fun, if I heard that on the radio in 1990 I would have turned it UP. God, what a fucking BOP
The beginning of “one night” sounds like “the art of letting go” and then “always be my baby”. And mesmerized has “loverboy” meets “boogie wonderland” vibes
Hey Sal, you have the most genuine and fun facial reactions that I've seen. I was the one who said in one of your recent live vlogs that you look like zac efron. And it is kinda cute that it looks like I am seeing Zac react this way. LOL! keep it up!
I feel like All I Live For could have fit well in the Emotions album, because of its upbeat urban sound which is similar to To Be Around You and Emotions
Del Lunzaga That’s true, because Now That I Know’s upbeat sound is similar to All I Live For. It’s one of the many great songs of the Rarities, nevertheless
Ahhhh I loved so many of these "rarities"....such gems! I was SO eager to hear the original "Loverboy"...I hated it!!! Tommy did her a big favour...the sample works so much better with J.Lo's "I'm Real." I love the "Loverboy" album version we got...those guitars & that 80's vibe was everything!! Seriously she had nothing to be upset about it!
i LOVE ALL YOUR ALBUM-REVIEWS!!! ALWAYS REFRESHING TO HEAR A FELLOW BROTHER'S FRESH REACTION WITH YOUR PERSONAL INSIGHTS THAT MAKE ME SEE THEIR MUSICIAL MASTERPIECES IN A WAY I WOULDN'T HAVE OTHERWISE! KEEP IT UP, DAH-LINGGGGGGGGGGGGG - LUV UR WERK!
In interview in 2015, Walter Afanasieff cited ''Everything Fades Away'' has his favorite track of ''Music Box''. ''He didn't understand why Sony refused to put this song in the non-US released of ''Music Box'' and he cited one of his most beautiful tracks of all time that he produced and and it's was a compliment to the producer of this song. I buying in the store the double CD (Music box/Rainbow) in the store for ony 12$ and this song was in this. It's was listed at the back cover has a bonus track when it's came out.
Im Old but I bought Music Box when it came out in Germany and it had everything Fades away on It... I still have it and plays like new even though its over 30 years old. LOL
I don't get why Mariah didn't put more actual rare songs on this album. "Unspoken Emotion", "Into The Light", "Hypnotized" etc... are way still unreleased songs we've actually never heard.
Sal, we have the same mentality when it comes to physical CD’s. I gotta have em. And Amazon screwed me too. The Book is coming today and I cxld my CD order!!!
I know, right ? I pre ordered the album on Amazon and it’s gonna take over a month to be delivered to my place, and I am prime member.... It really sucks. But, what a great great album and good reaction !
One night is my fav. And love the Firecracker lover boy version. But agree the released version is more put together. But the firecracker version is edgier.
The Firecracker is kind of off-pitch with her singing. She sang on another key, or Idk it just sounds very chaotic. The sample should have been manipulated a little bit to match her pitch.
I will always be a lamb.... slipping away is my all time favourite but after hearing this album, my favourites are slipping away, save the day, can u hear me and mesmerized .. i prefer the Lina's version of I Pray.... btw ur poster at the back is her concert in Manila, Filipinos loves MC so much, they made the song THROUGH THE RAIN #1.
I know I'm in the minority, but I actually significantly prefer the original Loverboy. You can hear how well her melodies fit the sample, the production is early '00s perfection, and her vocals are significanfly better than what she recorded for the released version (unsurprising given how little rest she got at the time).
Thanks Sal!!!! I appreciate your review! (Also easy on the eyes 🤭) I’m definitely going to subscribe. You’re on IG? LOVE THE WHOLE ALBUM (minus I Pray) favs are DEFINITELY Do You Think of Me, Everything Fades Away, One Night, Slipping Away, Loverboy-Firecracker!!!! Shout out to Lullaby of Birdland & Mesmerized!! 😍 btw I feel Honey was way more sexual since it Talking about semen 😵🥴 Btw listen to Loverboy/Firecracker on your earphones or headphones with good base.
I prefer the loverboy we all know. I know that's easier to like the version we are used too. BUT I always liked up beats songs... And the version we know is a better up beat.
Yes true. But the firecracker sample is bop. But how the arrangement is made is plain and bland. The album version is much better when it terms of vocals/arrangement
Fun fact: Its #2 in ITunes Philippines, the other rankings are: #2 Brazil #3 Netherlands #3 Spain #3 Bahrain #4 USA #4 Sri Lanka #4 Cambodia #6 Thailand #8 Canada #12 UK
I had the same issue with Amazon delivering "The Meaning Of Mariah Carey" so late and I pre-ordered. And it look like numerous people went through the book wrinkling the pages....especially where the pictures are with Derek Jeter and Whitney....I'm still mad.....LOL
Near the end of All I Live For, Mariah added 2020 vocals. She thought she was being slick... 😂 The Rarities sure is a fresh listen to compare to music on the radio nowadays...
The funny thing about all the songs in this album is, it's not too late for any of them to chart as successful singles. Several artists have done EXACTLY that. Michael Jackson's "Love Never Felt So Good" became a posthumous hit 30 years after it's demo was recorded.
Absolutely love that album! My favorite tracks are Being Good Isn't Good Enough, I Think Its Going To Rain Today, Lost In Wonderland, How Are Things In Glocca Mora?, and Home!
This version of Loverboy (like you said it could have been an urban remix of the song) can be compared to the variation the Dreamlover (Bam Bam Remix) has from it's released version.
40:42 She hurt herself during the “Beautiful” music video, if I’m not mistaken. While they filming she fell and was wearing a sling but then kept the sleeve during the tour.
Yeah I’m gonna go with you don’t know how to feel… I totally 110,000% disagree with you on the whole loverboy I think the loverboy firecracker version is much more radio friendly I remember when the other level wake him out and he was just to the sound was to before it’s time and I feel like if that was the Remax and then they had another remix with a brat and etc. on it that would’ve done well but like no I like this version not better but I definitely wish this was the version because it’s so Poppin and it’s more radio friendly to a bigger audience
