As someone who’s been a fan ever since I was little hi welcomeee i recommend their older albums if you like more rock/pop and their newest album if you like more pop stuff but all their music is amazinggggg
Same, i used to listen all the time & went to a concert in 2013 (it was fun cause my friend had a cast on and she was reaching it up so Matt grabbed it to see if it was real 😂) I haven’t heard them in forever, but this song is amazing
indibindylou lmao I was thinking Hotel California with that scene. Seeing your comment made me feel silly because it was pretty obvious you're right on haha
indibindylou I can just imagine when they were coming up with film ideas Josh was like: "You know what would be amazing...if we did this scene where I get some girls and they load me up with whiskey. Like to the point where all I see is this beautiful place and get put in this trance. Then it all gets revealed and-" Then Ian is like: "What are you reading," *squints* "Are you getting all of this from Percy Jackson? Josh, you're a grown man. Mike's kid just finished reading that!" Josh: "Where do you think I got the book from?" Ian: "Give that book back right now. I can't believe you read this stuff." Josh: "Of course he doesn't understand me....he's probably a dumb Roman." (I have too much time)
In 1978 I met a great fellow guitarist/song writer in Santa Cruz, CA. He'd lived in, and loved Astoria. Yesterday, while trying to find any information about him, or the song 'Astroria' which he'd written back then; I of course found nothing. Too many years! But…in the interim, I found Marianas Trench and the mention of the song and video, Astoria, which led me here to this video. I’m glad I did. You guys are truly multitalented and deserve recognition. Thanks for putting this out there. You’re one of the best bands I’ve heard in many years.
Astoria I'm warning you Not ready yet, not for you Don't want to know my darkest lows My blackest pitch, murder of crows Feels far from home close to the veil Goodbye mother's fairy tale Never after will suffice When star-crossed lovers take their life Now where again, a harlequin Kaleidoscope in spite of when Top of the world To lowest worth From blackest pearl to slow rebirths Don't remind me what the price is When left to my own devices 'Cause I'll find out in all due time What happens to never say die I'll say whatever doesn't make me stronger kills me But it's going to be a long year Till the hospital can find hope in me Tell me I survive Do I survive you Astoria Tell me I survive Do I survive you Astoria Do you know everything happens It happens in threes A fever blur through names obscured And speech is slurred What's another bridge burned I'm on my own you came alone All dressed up in bad news I know you can hurt too This would be the wrong move Maybe we should leave soon You can lay with me while you think of him Drowning sorrows deep in each other's skin I touch your face while I think of her I won't raise my lips till the way we were Bite my neck till you say his name I will scratch your back to forget her face I regret sweet, to a solemn cure We can raise our lips till the way we were On a good day, I'm the bad news For the wrong girl with the right wounds On a bad day, I'm the good news For the wrong girl with the right wounds Hey ever just say fuck it Maybe I'll drink this song away in buckets Oh hey might as well say fuck it I want to hurt myself until I love it I shoulda known you're not alone When you take somebody home And the little death Are a little less even if it's just for a moment Hey let's all say fuck it I'm gonna make my mother so proud of it Hope doesn't fade in Astoria I'll say whatever doesn't make me stronger kills me Buts it's going to be a long year Till the hospital might find hope in me Astoria Astoria Hope the melody save me Astoria Let the melody save me Astoria The quid pro quo's that will compose From esoteric to common prose Astoria
Here I was, expecting it to pop up sometime after 9 am on the West Coast, and yet here it is. :D Good thing I’m a night owl. I’m glad there’s a video to this song. Such an amazing song with a lot of symbolism.
Such a talented band, i mean the writing for this song alone is amazing. For example, "shoulda known you're not alone when you take somebody home and the little deaths are a little less even if just for a moment." 'little death' is a translation for orgasm in french. I swear this band is so smart and a head of their time.
Every album tells a story, judging by each video. Minus Pop 101... And others... I'm on Book 4 ((aka Album 4 : Astoria )) and I want more! Or maybe all of the other videos we think don't fit, actually do!
I HAVE A THEORY: Is this in some way like the odessy? The club scene would make a lot of sense then- land of the lotus eaters (notice the lotus in her hair) also the one eyed man (cyclops) he steels from, the woman in the beginning could be a god on their side, or cassandra, or circe, and the people that beat him up at the carwash could be those flying demon things.
I have a theory......this is one of the greatest comments ever! Brilliant heather! I never picked up on this before and now it’s so obvious. Tip of the hat to you (2 years ago lol)
My dad discovered this song, this whole album when it was released in 2015. So I’ve pretty much been raised on this music and I love it so much, thank you for doing what you do.
Shaketramp was filmed in a museum in BC, Canada, and this video was filmed in Oregon. Definitely not the same place, though they have a similar aesthetic. :)
Urmeluv the Burnaby Village Museum :) it's a walking museum of some of the original buildings in Burnaby, they have staff dressed up in period costumes running the shops, farm house and school. It's a really fascinating little day trip imo.
Just found MT a few months ago. Easily the best new band I've discovered in the last 15 years. This song is anthemic. The transitions in it are musically brilliant. The scenery of Goonies locals is amazing. Well done, MT.
2nd time listener. 44 years old. This song and video just blew my heart up..... love how she says Go Home at the start then ya never see her again...... then. He ends up at home.. Beautiful..
I Love all of the MT music videos but this one is by far my favorite, I have PTSD and haven’t found any grounding techniques that work except for this video! This song and music video always snaps me out of my flashbacks! It’s amazing how much you guys help me! And it really is you guys! No one else makes me happy like you guys do! You guys are special! I met you May 19th and it was the best day of my life! You guys are family to me! I’ve been through a lot the last few years and you guys give me hope to keep fighting!
This video brought back memories of when I saw these guys live 2 years ago,,, their music never fails to give me goosebumps !! As a performer & musician, this band is one of my biggest role models. Never have they released a song that I didn't think was musically,,, them. Marianas Trench has a certain tone to their songs. When they release a song, you can tell it's theirs. I'm just so proud of what all of these talented men have accomplished in the past years. I first listened to Marianas Trench in sixth grade & now I'm a senior in high school,,, my how time flies. Thank you for always sticking with me through my hardest times. Thank you, Marianas Trench.
Now this is what I call beautiful content. The Astoria album will resonate inside us forever, it was such a personal look into Josh's life ya feel? It was an amazing experience, and how well everybody worked on it! I'm just so proud and happy for these guys! Love ya MT :D
So lucky to have seen these guys live once in Canada and once in my home town. This song gives me goosebumps every time. Such a heartwrenching narrative of lost innocence and facing the past and trying to find Home.
I know you mean you’re happy something is going on close to you (I get the same way! My city is always overshadowed by San Francisco) but Oregon is hardly a forgotten state! Try Iowa or such! 😂
This is one of my favourite songs ever, I really love the line "don't remind me what the price is when left to my own devices" - I scream it in my head every time without fail lol
This makes me really happy, not just because it’s a really great music video, but it just shows how far they’ve come. From Shake Tramp- where they hired their own friends and family and filmed the whole thing in a day...to this. It’s so high budget and so beautiful. I’m just so proud of how far they’ve come
@Mtrench I know this is a late thing to realize but last year in Ontario Canada on their tour, they stayed in the hotel I stayed in. The morning we left we saw Mike he was casually getting coffee at Starbucks but thought it was a fake and kept going home. And u got on RU-vid and saw that it was him and I didn't get a picture and I'm MAD😡😡😡😡. But I love you guys thanks
There are about 50,000,000 things I could say about Marianas Trench, how much I love them and their music, how much I wish they got more recognition for the depth and brilliance of their albums... But honestly, none of it would be enough to express how I feel. So I'll settle for simply saying thank you. Thank you, Marianas Trench, for making the music I play over and over, hundreds and thousands of times, and fall in love with all over again every single time that I do.
I've been listening to Marianas Trench since I was about 4 years old. My first songs from them were Stutter, Cross My Heart, and Desperate Measures. I remember seeing Josh on Much with Lights and seeing the Desperate Measures music video. And as I got older I worked my way to their album Fix Me. I was an angsty preteen and I was going through some stuff. I love Shake Tramp, Fix Me B-side, Say Anything, Push, and basically all the others in that album. I love hearing the stories and emotions expressed so rawly in your music. As a visual artist (I do music as well but vis is my primary) I can picture a story and think of all the details. I have listened to all of your music (I've even listened to some Ramsay Fiction, love how you used the chorus of one of them in Sing Sing). I know you probaby hear this stuff a lot and you guys probably won't even see this as you're busy doing other things (which I completely understand). I'd like to thank you guys for your work. I will also say that the next song you make should be the evolution of Ian's side burns.
It's the house from the goonies It's the house from the goonies It's the house from the goonies It's the house from the goonies It's the house from the goonies It's the house from the goonies
Still don't see how there are only 6k likes on this... I have been a fan for well over 10 years now, and I still listen to them every day. They have helped me through a lot, and just the way each song is a story, is still amazing to me. They definitely never got the recognition they deserved. ♡ a big fan of yours, Athena ♡
props to these guys for convincing their label that a 7 minute song in 2017 is a good idea. shit that was hard in the 70s when rock was progressive, not dance... kudos guys I hope you had fun
