Given how closely people lived with each other at Versailles, and the habits of the Court, it’s incredible that after 7 years they were still ‘innocent’ … poor woman in particular

And yet, that is what happened, but remember that Louis was a very shy and introvert man..

I feel that they were just children when they were forced to marry. Antoinette was only 14, Louis-Auguste was barely older, just 15. They were 21 and 22 respectively when they finally consummated their marriage, after some awkward attempts. In their early 20s, they were both older now, more mature and had grown fond of one another. It makes much more sense for them to be ready for intercourse as young adults, than as children! With Joseph's help, they were able to figure it out (he called them both 'blunderers'). It is clear that no one had bothered to explain to either of them anything about intimacy until Joseph set them both straight.

I feel bad for Marie Antoinette as she was often blamed for the lack of children. Wonderful video! Merci 🌸♥️!

Well, it was unthinkable to think the king could've been the issue... Or to say it outloud, so it HAD to be Marie Antoinette.... Thank you for watching Christine ! 🌻❤

I can't imagine living in a dark stone castle. Looks brilliant but u know it was full of black mold, bugs and spiders, not to mention rats and mice, snakes, no shower everyday. They didn't take any exercise or sunshine or vitamins. Not even the balance diet we take for granted. It's a miracle any children were born. Not to mention the incest part . So grateful to live in a small Definitely not a castle, but clean, and running water, all fresh food, exercise and sunshine.

Louis XVI was one of the few Bourbons who were not sex addicts and never had lovers, he and Marie Antoinette were a happy couple after the consummation of their marriage and I am very saddened by the crime that the revolutionaries committed against him, his wife and his son Louis XVII and thankfully his daughter Maria Teresa survived but in a way suffered again from the ambition of her uncle Louis XVIII. Great video as I always follow❤❤❤

I appreciate your channel and all your work. I like to think of Marie as being sweet, and Louis as just shy. I hope in their hearts they cared about the people of France. I am now aware she was a Hasburg, yikes. But I have a romantic idea, and like it that way. They gave their lives with pride. That's a very brave soul. Thank you again 💓

Marie Antoinette definitely wasn't as horrid as she was said to be by the revolutionists. I sympathize with them both as well.

@TheKingsofFrance they were both far to young and removed from the plight of the people. It wasn't necessarily their choice. But it was ridiculous to think a couple 19 year old kids could properly rule. At age 19, I couldn't imagine if I were made a queen. I like to think I'm kind, and empathetic. But I can't imagine how I would have acted if I were a teenage queen. Seems like a beautiful life, but I will keep mine 😘

It's hard to imagine that Louis XVI didn't learn the facts of life before he was married considering that his grandfather was such a ladies man.

Indeed. There are some details about the situation, but I couldn't be too 'graphic' in explaining in the video, as youtube tends to listen in and boycot movies with certain words or content... but trust me when I tell you the situation was ridiculous.

Everything I have read over the years indicates that there was a physiological/sexual problem that seems to have been Louis having extreme phymosis. That being an excessively tight foreskin that probably caused painful erections. I have read that he had, finally, a kind of 'snip'. A liberation of this strangling foreskin which resulted in immediate conception. Male genital issues were never discussed or revealed when it came to royalty but considering how they do exist, it would not be unlikely. Here in North America where circumcision mania began in the late 1930's at least that problem went away for most men. But I did have a few teenage male friends who had to be surgically liberated from a strangling foreskin. Not fun.

You will find a 3 part series of Louis XVI. on this channel. The surgery is mentioned in part 1.

Correct. And indeed the 3 part series makes mention of it. But,... aside from that problem, they literally didn't know how to perform the act...

The existing comments amuse me. It's almost like nothing has changed in 250 years! With respect to Louis and Marie, it is like their perfunctory duty was to cement the tie between Austria and France. Personality has nothing to do with it. It is no wonder that the end was tragic. This did not change in Europe until WWI climaxed with the overthrow and murder of the Czar and his family. This was a wake up call to the monarchies of Europe. The fact that the English monarchy was able to survive is only due to the luck that it was an island isolated from the chaos on the continent. And, in my opinion even that royal house appears as filthy as the rest of them.

Before Louis 16 and Maria-Antoinette, there was no such faithful royal couple, he did not have a mistress of the favorite, and this influenced the fate of Antoinette. Regarding Fersen, even after deciphering letters there is no 100% evidence that the relationship of Tuanette and Fersen was “hot”, in addition, DNA tests proved that all the children of Maria Antoinette were from Louis. This is a faithful royal couple for 200 years of France of that time.

I have just watched a documentary how they had built Versailles on Arte TV. Marie Antoinette was the 15th child (of 16) of Maria Theresia which even today would be quite astonishing. Just imagine ruling a country, leading wars etc. and "casually" raising 16 children. The contrast between playboy king Louis XV. and Louis XVI. would be worth another episode. Versailles changed from public to private under Louis XVI.

everyday life is easy because Maria Theresa can afford an army of wet nurses to feed, clothe and entertain her kids. the hardest part for her is giving birth.

Hi, awesome live history video. I enjoyed it. How are you and cute Rani your cat? I'm doing well, just enjoying the weather. My cat Benjamin says hi to you and cute Rani, your cat. He's doing well. He's very heavy to pick up, my cat benjamin is a big cat. Is Rani your cat a big cat or a small cat? Have a great day. See you next video. Benjamin sends his hugs to Rani, your cat 😊

Rani definitely isn't a big cat... She's rather on the small side... but I don't pick her up often because she dislikes it. So only if it's necessary. The weather here is extremely warm for the time of year, still 30°. Luckily, this week, it'll become a bit cooler (around 22°)... Give our hugs to Benjamin !!!

I know Queen Marie Antoinette had some of her jewels smuggled out of France, due to the French Revolution. Who ended up with those jewels? Was it her surviving daughter and then she passed them to relatives, as there were no children? The auction, a few years ago, of the jewels was just incredible! The beautiful, large, pearl fetched millions and millions.

There have always been rumours that Ernestine Lambriquet was Louis XVIs child with Madame de Lambriquet. He and Marie Antoinette adopted the child, who reportedly looked a lot like him. There were also rumours that the Dauphin (Louis XVII) was actually the son of Axel von Fersen and Marie Antoinette. Since we have the heart of Louis XVII in St.Denis Basilica, maybe DNA testing would clarify this?

Hello, King of france. I have A question: Do you think French should have had A reigning queen and do you think Edwards III should have been recognize as king of French ?
@roidrannoc1691
@roidrannoc1691 Год назад
In a patriarchal society, it's not a good idea to have a reigning queen. Because of laws that allowed women to inherit and transmit the crown in societies where only peternal inheritance mattered, the consequences are not great. England was ruled by French, Scottish and German rulers because of that rule, and Spain by Austrian and French. Meanwhile all of French kings were previously to their coronation French nobles. In modern societies, where we atleast try to get rid of patriarchy, it makes sense that women can inherit the crown. So I'd say no, women shouldn't have been reigning queen of France throughout history, but if France was a monarchy today, then yes there should be reigning queen. Also, Edward III had no legitimacy whatsoever. If women were allowed to rule, then in 1316 it's Joan II of Navarre who would have inherited the throne, then her son Charles II of Navarre (the Bad). If women can't inherit the throne but can transmit it to their sons, then Philip of Burgundy, son of the eldest daughter of Philip V would have had a better claim that Edward III. Sure Edward III was "the closest male relative of Philip IV", but Philip of Burgundy was the closest male relative of Philip V, and Philip VI was the closest male relative of Philip III. No matter how you spin it, there are always more legitimate heirs than Edward III.
@DarthDread-oh2ne
@DarthDread-oh2ne Год назад
@@roidrannoc1691 It would have save french A lot of trouble. As for Edward, I'm on his side, I think the french should have recognize him as King of french.
@roidrannoc1691
@roidrannoc1691 Год назад
@@DarthDread-oh2ne What troubles would have been avoided? Having French kings ruling France is not troubles! And Edward had no legitimacy, he's nothing but a greedy imposter. Why would the French have recognized a foreign imposter as their legitimate king? It's like saying that the British today should accept Macron as their new king!
@TheKingsofFrance
@TheKingsofFrance Год назад
I don't really have an opinion on the matter. It is not what happened due to Salic law... Whether or not it is fair is beside the point...
@LucasHorst-zi3rl
@LucasHorst-zi3rl Год назад
@@roidrannoc1691So let's say that if France had the system of male primogeniture, that is, without male heirs, women could reign. The Valois and Bourbon dynasties would have ended sooner? because the children of reigning Queens are named after their father's royal house, right? France had a monarchy with the strictest succession rules in Europe in relation to the Salic Law and even more patriarchal than Japan itself today, as Japan in the past had reigning Empresses, while France never had a Queen Regnant
