Marie Curie was an intelligent girl from a poor family in Warsaw, Poland. She
couldn’t go to the same school as her brother so she went to school in Paris to study
math and science. That’s where she met Pierre, who was also a scientist. Together,
they fell in love, married and won a Nobel Prize for their research in Physics. Marie was
the first woman to ever win this prize! When Pierre suddenly died in an accident, Marie
threw herself into work and won a second Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Marie went on to
make amazing discoveries that continue to help people with illness today and founded
the Radium Institute at the University of Paris
