Extraordinary dancers, the choreography is incredibly difficult, especially for him, triple pirouettes, triple crosses, big jumps thrown with remarkable dexterity, all with a dose of humour that the audience appreciates. Normally the girls steal the show and I never pay attention to the boys, but DAMN I COULDNT TAKE MY EYES OFF THAT GUY!!! I think he was doing double tours but he made them look like triples they were so high

Yeah...few really understand how UNBELIEVABLY strong dancers are. They must train their bodies and muscles to work in some of the most extreme conditions that pushes the boundaries of what the human body can endure. The art of dance is as strenuous as it is beautiful.

I went to the theatre to watch this a few days ago and the little fan dance the lady does in front of the guy was genuinely so satisfying to watch I just had to come back to see it again

Awesome Dancers !!!! The man is incredibly talented. Extraordinaires Danseurs, la chorégraphie est incroyablement difficile, surtout pour lui, triple pirouettes, triples croisés, grands sauts lancés d'une dextérité remarquable, le tout avec une dose d'humour que le public apprécie à sa juste valeur. Chapeau bas...! Que d'années de travail, de souffrance, pour arriver à cela ! Bravo !!! À ce niveau, on oublie les costumes. Spasibo. 👍👍👍🌟👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I came to see this infamous tea scene after reading in recent news that the ballet companies are reworking it to be less offensive to Asians and it is clear that it would be with the yellow face, slit eye mascara, fake fu Manchu moustache, stereotype bamboo hat and ridiculous costume. An easy fix is to hire East Asian looking ballet dancers (and there are plenty of good ones) and give them more realistic historical costumes.

It is an art and read the history of this ballet before writing your stupid comments. You may give female parties to the men or make your award for the dancers and give it only to one race because their life is matter. It's your choice. And no one can judge cause everyone has their own opinion and view of things. But please don't impose your views on everyone. Since childhood Chinese dance in the Nutcracker is my favorite. This dance didn't teach me how to be racist or hate China. On the contrary, I love their culture and country. All your comments and complaints about clothing and appearance are what makes this dance racist

Before people attack what you are saying, it would help if they put themselves in your shoes for a bit of time. What if an important work of art had a section that represented their culture in a jumble of disconnected stereotypes? What if that culture was presented a selection of edibles for consumption by the wealthier, more powerful countries? I suppose it is difficult for people to even fathom this if they have not experienced it. I’m sure there’s a way for people to learn about each other’s cultures without unknowingly offending each other. It starts with humility and the intent to be kind.

Back in 2001 in my school we did this song but we added words to it, “tea Chinese tea would you like some” and they dressed us up in Chinese cloths and drew asian eyes on us... very different time in 2001

I wonder which is better: present the Chinese dance the way Tchaikovsky wrote it and update nothing, with the understanding that it was written a century ago and this was the norm, or to update the ballet and potentially cut the song altogether. It's not like productions of this haven't cut or shuffled the songs before, but as awkward as it is to see such stereotypes now, it seems like a shame to cut one of the most recognizable songs out of the ballet. I don't have any answers to this, I simply am thinking out loud.

I think it's not about cutting, but putting things in their right context. Important not to go down a revisionist route, we have to acknowledge history and that isn't the same as condoning it. Easier said than done obv!
