Marika Hackman, you have the most refreshing voice of today. You deserve fame and great success, and I know such a talent as yourself will achieve that plus so much more. Thank you for sharing your gift:D
I found a little plot of land In the garden of Eden It was dirt, and dirt is all the same I tilled it with my two hands And I called it my very own There was no one to dispute my claim Well, you'd be shocked at the state of things The whole place had just cleared right out It was hotter than hell, so I laid me by a spring For a spell as naked as a trout The wandering eye that I have caught Is as hot as a wandering sun But I will want for nothing more, in my garden Start again, in the hardening to every heart but one Meet me in the garden of Eden Bring a friend We are gonna have ourselves a time We are gonna have a garden party It's on me, no, sirree, it's my dime We broke our hearts in the war between St. George and the dragon But both, in equal part are welcome to come along I'm inviting everyone Farewell to loves that I have known Even muddiest waters run I believe in innocence, little darling Start again I believe in everyone
If anything this just shows that behind Joanna's voice (which I love, I'm just saying most people won't give her a real shot because of it) are AMAZING songs. This is one of her most simple songs but I'm not going to use that to downplay it's brilliance...
81' always reminds me of Army Dreamers by Kate Bush. I think the Have One on Me album is very Katebush-esque as well as Newsom being so creative and original in her own right. This is a wonderful cover and I love Marika. She's amazing. I did worry it looked like she would fall in the canal at the start. 3 fantastic women.
this versions actually played quicker than the original by Joanna Newsom, and even the album version by Marika Hackman. If you check out the original, it's 5 and a half minutes long and has a lot more verses.
It just goes to show that even when someone with lovely voice like this covers a Joanna Newsom song it still is nowhere near as captivating as the original. Long live Joanna and her music, and I hope everyone learns of her, wether it’s through shit covers or good ones like this.
