Marilyn Manson's "Triptych" Analysis

I think after the golden age album, his spark went to shit. I have been a fan since The Spooky Kids was still a part of the name. His top 3 LPs to me have changed as I got older (43) but AntiChrist Svperstar was always first. 2. Portrait loved the production. 3 was Holywood for the longest time, but as much as I hated Mechanical in 98, it took 20 years to really appreciate the structure of it.

I never gave him a chance during his prime time in the 90s due to the over-sensationalized media. I stopped watching the news over a decade ago. I happened to hear 'The Beautiful People back in 2013 & I couldn't get it out of my head. Going through rough times & suddenly decided to look into him further & found out how smart he is; very well read. I went on to discover several other songs I instantly loved & related to & watched 90s concerts online & was so mad I missed the chance to see a show back then. Then I suddenly saw he was on a tour & he was going to be in my area one night only-on my birthday-just 2 months after discovering his music & who he really was. I couldn't talk anyone into going to see the show with me so then I just bought a ticket to go alone. Sadly I never did get to see him as I arrived late- he was headlining & not wanting to stand alone during the opening act which I felt some kind of fear about-Still never listened to their music. Since then I tried 3 other times over the next 2 years to see him-I missed the second show when going by myself again-I blamed myself the first two times but when it happened 2 more times I realized maybe it just wasn't meant to be & maybe I don't know enough about him. Fast forward to mid 2021 & I just discovered Nine Inch Nails & felt the same way & then found out the songs I loved by Marilyn Manson were from collaborations with Trent Reznor when he signed Marilyn Manson to his label. Turns out I really love Nine Inch Nails & a similar thing happened in 2022-a chance to see them live a few weeks before my birthday but it was 900 miles away & No car & not much money. I still managed to get my ticket & get 900 miles to that overpriced music festival but it was a traumatic trip-Took days-I never slept & was delirious & terrified of trip back home. 9 days awake. I just got to the show while headliners-Nine Inch Nails-were halfway into their set but just getting to see what I did see was the best live concert ever. I just wish I was given another chance to see them & see them fully. I still love those songs by Marilyn Manson but I know his shows now are not like seeing him in his prime. Yet Trent Reznor puts on such an amazing show EVERY TIME-even 35 years later & I love every song I ever hear & relate to his music so much. I don't think it was good for Trent when they toured together & am so glad he got clean & is living his best life. I am also so happy for Marilyn Manson that ERW didn't destroy him as she tried to with her lies. Anyway-I felt the need to comment. I know it's long but that's my truth & what I wanted to share. Music really is therapeutic. It literally saves lives. I don't understand why there isn't a form of music therapy instead of people always having pharma pressed onto them-trying to numb people's minds-We can do that ourselves-We dont need g×v3rne√t doing that to us .... Wake up everybody. Bless us all.

Agree! "New Model No. 15" basically tells the story of social media influencers and instagram models. It's the same story, different setting and that's what makes Manson's music timeless. Sure, certain references are dated ("oh look you're like a VCR, stick something in to know just who you are") but it all still applies to today and one could argue it is more relevant today than it was back in 98.

I'm 40 and discovered Manson right before Antichrist Superstar came out. I was sucked into the magic that was POAAF. I also searched for every piece of information about the band that I could. I was in the Manson Family. I think that's what the fan club used to be called... Anyway, idk how old you are. I just think it's cool to come across people that were experiencing the same thing that I was at the same time.

And just to add to my theory because your video inspired me to go through the three albums again... in "Coma Black" Adam sings "This was never my world, you took the angel away. I'll kill myself to make everybody pay" The worm in "Man That You Fear" sings "I have it all and I have no choice but to, I'll make everyone pay and you will see"... it just further has me convinced that my theory is true.

@@TheLaunchPadStudio agree, we won't know until the album is released. I have a strong feeling it is connected though based on the easter eggs Manson loves to leave, like the "Adam 5" on the Mechanical Animals cover, the "Coma" etched into a white pill on the CD which I take was Adam's choice to try to numb the pain of his lost love but just like her, it failed. Or that coma isn't a woman at all, but rather a piece of Adam. Just like Eve came from Adam in the bible. In this universe it makes sense that Coma wasn't a person but a personality. Without Adam's full personality he feels empty, he can't face life. So if we believe Adam is a new model, meant to fix the "mistakes" (defiance and hate) of original Adam in Holy Wood, created in God's image (alpha and omega) then it makes sense that it's the drugs that keep Adam complacent like an omega but he still can't forget (the alpha, all knowing being) his other half, the part that makes him whole. The appearance of Omega itself is androgynous.. it further pushes my latter theory of "her" aka Coma being Adam as well. Just like the tarot cards in Holywood... the imagery does matter. But again, I enjoyed every minute of your video, I enjoyed seeing someone else's perspective on this and your theory is a great one with solid links.

The last 3 records aren't linked in the way the triptych albums are. Those records are singular experiences

Care to elaborate? Since your comment exists here, what tricks did MM convey to the world to instill an illusion of depth? Hes an artist... His lyrics exist, yes? His music (art) is open for interpretation. That IS the essence of art/music. What it means to you isn't what it means to me, and vice versa. Marilyn Manson as a whole was to induce provocation. If you look past the make up, or the ambiguity, physically, and listen to what he has to say or listen to his music, he is almost always exposing the world's hypocrisy. I don't see many "tricks"... ✌️

He had a lull in quality for awhile because he wasn’t feeling inspired. Eat Me, Drink Me from this era has a nice feel to it though with consistent themes and some excellent tracks. His real comeback though was The Pale Emperor. That album’s a fucking banger from start to finish.

I don't really consider long hard road connected. It was sandwiched between the releases of anti & mechanical, so it shares similar vibes in a sense but that is where it ends for me. Portrait will eventually be covered in full no doubt! Thanks for the viewership & thoughtful question.

Probably due to the 45-minute intro that doesn't even bother to explain what the video is about. Everyone's sitting there thinking "is this it? has it started?" and on top of that, it's the exact same interviews as featured in the other videos. It's a really weird way to start an analysis that has people switching off before it's even started.

It was not actually recorded on Valentine’s Day 97. It’s, I think, an Easter egg that only attentive people who remember the liner notes in Antichrist Superstar can notice. It’s one of the many things in Holy Wood that are supposed to help the listener understand how Holy Wood is linked to the AS and MA.

I could imagine that with Omega being such a public figure, Coma would also be a public figure like many irl celebrity couples

It is obvious to me that all of the albums (from 1994 to present) are as interconnected, cross-referencing, and compliments/criticisms of one another as much as the 3 albums referred to as the triptych.

The worm being the son of coma / adam is a long debated thread to the story . Was he their long-lost offspring? or was he only someone who grew up in the shadow of the holywood rebellion and events of M.A., who then rose up against what that society morphed into? It's never been confirmed by manson and really rests on how you personally choose to view it.

The Thoth deck is interesting. I haven't read with it yet though.
