these guys changed my life. i was 15 with two buddies we hitch hiked 100 kilometers to Halifax to see MV only to find out the venue was a bar and we couldn't get it.. after roaming around the city for a few hours we got mugged behind the metro center and all of our money was stolen. we were basically fucked... but these guys caught wind of us being there for them, and came out to to meet us. it was awesome. we hung out for a while,and after dedicating their entire set to 'the kids outside who cant get in" the bouncer came out and let us stand against the back wall to watch the show.. probably the nicest guys i've ever met and one of my fondest memories in the punk rock community..

Uh...it sure was. Before that buttmunch Michael Asswrinkle bought it and turned it into a ego spa for rich people's poodles, the Elmo sure was a fun place to shoulder tap 3$ bottles of Molson XXX. Unfortunately now it'll cost you north of a Mackenzie King for cover charge on a Sunday morning. Back in my day, the Elmo was the stomping grounds of Bunchofuckinggoofs, a band who has as much sympathy for the space bar as they did Asswrinkle's ilk, but today it's home to a new type of BFG, Bunchofuckinggentrifiers.
Ok so whose idea WAS the mandatory $3 coat check? According to the Bank of Canada’s inflation calculator, that would be $5.08 in 2023 dollars and that’s five dollars and eight cents more than I’d say coat check should be. Asking because I feel like this idea probably paved the way for what the el mo has become and we need some accountability.

Colin Vitamin (or “Colin Virtuoso”, as I always called him) and his band of malcontented masters of the melodic-aggressive genre would have been bigger than operation ivy if there were any justice in the 1990s Canadian recording industry. While these next-gen stiff little fingers were grinding it out at the 360 at 4 pm for $5 a head, tired old college rock mainstays like the pursuit of happiness and blue chodeo were feasting at the videofact tax trough. The same injustice killed Canadian trip-hop before it could really become a thing.
Well now Mr. BrianWicks6587, it's hard to laugh at this but we're all adults now and as sure as a cigarette no longer dangles from my lips I would have to disagree.
