The Homeowners Association of Marina Martinique Jeffreys Bay contacted me with an urgent request to inspect the inlet pipe opening of the pipe that feeds clean ocean water into the Marina after they noticed that inflow of water was very slow. Due to the urgency of the matter, I dropped a number of things, and got my gear together to do the dive. There were a lot of unknowns, and I managed to get in the water for an initial dive. Visibility and surge and sand banks made it very hard to follow the pipe from shore, and I opted to return the following day to find smaller surf and less surge. The pipe outlet was full of marine growth, and when I removed some of the marine growth, I discovered hundreds of meters of fishing line an fishing tackle. There were also several plastic bags as well as nylon ski rope. It was very difficult to clean and potentially dangerous, due to possible underwater entanglement and several large fishing hooks. In total, the whole operation took me about 8 hours (Easily 4 hours diving). This video shows some of the cleaning and debris, as well as some before and after footage.
