Gezzzzzz Brother how bad was your Gun Section. Always had GREAT group of Gun Rocks in both Battery Units I served with. U.S.M.C Arty for LIFE 🦅🌎⚓ Pull string go Boom 💥
That’s funny until you actually try doing it. After the first (and guarantee you the last) time you do it, it’s not so funny anymore. Signed, former active duty USMC artillery officer with six years in the field leading Marines doing just these kinds of ops.
@@av7726 pulling the firing mechanism with your finger rather than hooking up the lanyard. You have to move your hand out of the way fast to avoid getting "bit" by the recoil of a 3800 lb steel tube. (hence the term or slap-firing)
Had the pig for a few months in I 3/12. ‘88. Got replaced by the bad boy in this video. Having fired both I have to say the 198 was a Caddy, the pig was anMaverick!
That could easily have been me as a young artillery Marine in the early 80's. Those M198's could sling some death downrange. The only thing that looks different are the Kevlar helmets- we were still using steel pots in my day.
Hella great gun crew!! Guessing by the terrain and charges being shot... it's a 10th Marines backyard shoot. I miss being the #1 man and slap-firing! Indescribable thrill of raining steel. Damn good ol' days! 0811 1992-1998
@@j.b.m4640 no that’s not SOP, near impossible on the M777 now. The damn command is “hook up, stand by, fire. This video is at least 15 years old. If that happened now the section chief would be fire. At least the Agunner is checking quadrant and deflection before every shot.
yess failure to swab the bore is just baffling. I mean u have one right there but just walk by it every round 🤦🏽♂️ Imagine the ember build up in that bore
Did he slap fire the gun??? We never did that in the Corps!!! 😂😂😂😂 0811 1986-1990. E2/12 3rd Mar/Div & 3/11 1st Mar/Div (E btry unit rotation assigned to 3/11) Semper Fi!!!!
In this time period, the powder was green, white and red. They are firing green, the smaller of the charges. That charge can be cut from charge 5 down to charge 3.
