The gold parachutist badge was originally called the US Navy Certified Parachute Rigger badge . During WWII Marines began wearing them in place of their issued Army jump wings. In 1968, the Marines took advantage of an Admiral CNO who was being kicked out and got him to approve them as the "Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist" badge, with no requirements for Parachute Rigger school.

Thanks for the video.....very informative. Minor correction. The Presidential Service Badge is not only for Marine Officers. All Marines associated with Presidential Service, regardless of rank are awarded this badge. (White House Marines.....HMX-1 Marines, etc.)

Great video, thanks for sharing! I can offer some first hand information on the Presidential Service Badge. I've never heard of it described as an identification badge, that would actually defeat the purpose as you have to work in direct service to the President for one year before you are awarded the PSB. The badge is awarded to both enlisted and officers of all branches of the military after they have completed one year of direct service to the President. I was a member of Marine Security Company at Camp David and that is how I was awarded mine for service to President Reagan . For the USMC the other direct service positions that I'm familiar with are through HMX, the Marine One Helicopter unit and thru White House service, most notably the Marines who man the doors in dress blues. I'm sure there may be others but those are the largest groups of Marines who are eligible for the award. Once awarded it is worn for your entire career.

Thank you for additional information. It is an honor to have been selected to serve on the President's Staff.

We were never given the option of getting "blood wings" for our silver, however, I remember well that day in 1979 when I received my gold "blood wings". Every Marine who had gold wings, lined up and pounded my gold wings into my chest. There are two small scars about 2 1/2 inches apart on my left pec muscle to this day. Yes it hurt like hell, and yes I would do it again! There are very few Marines who earn their gold wings, and it is an honor to be among them. "Oh-Rah, Airborne"

As a firefighter we earned badges too. But I don’t think the Corps recognized us or it! We were told to take them off unless we were on duty! The first couple of classes that graduated got to keep our badge… I will send a photo later

The Marine Corps does not send officers to EOD school. All Marine EOD officers begin as NCO. Also, NAVSCOLEOD is now located at Eglin AFB in Niceville, FL.

True. It is awarded for participating in and winning the competition. But there are no “ Marine Corps Infantry” badges, for Combat or MOS qualifications and the CAR is awarded to any Marine and Sailor who participate in combat action.

No Fleet Marine Force warfare badge? I understand they’re awarded to Naval personnel namely Corpsmen, RP’s, doctors, nurses and others but Marine Officers are the ones who award them

One can see that the Marine Corps has always shown deference to the Airwing; whereas in the infantry occupational field, the so called backbone of The Marine Corps, there are zero infantry MOS qualification badges. If Recon Marines were authorized to wear every qualification badge, like the Army, there would be no room on the Uniform to neatly display them.

I can make a statement on this channel but,Not on Facebook! I am locked out! I earned my air crew wings and combat action ribbon in Vietnam between 66 and 69. Facebook he’s not dead place for people like me!

@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 I laughed when you were talking about the jump wings because I only knew one other Marine who mentioned that he was also the only Vietnam era Marine who had the diving, and recon that you showed towards the end. Sadly we lost him a few years ago.
