Italy has a fractured parliamentary system, much like the Netherlands. Even if Meloni's coalition has a healthy majority, it's still a coalition. Salvini is largely on board with her agenda, but Forza Italia has made it clear that their support is contingent on her not crossing certain lines. Even if they're the smallest party in her coalition, they can make her government fall. That is why Italy has a conservative government with long-term ambitions which she can achieve piece-by-piece. Italy is not a country like Canada or the UK where an ambitious, disciplined PM with a healthy majority has transformative powers.

1:20: to be fair, it happens to every single person who goes into politics in a significant role, the opposition is constantly bashing you and you end up becoming unpopular. It happened to Churchill, it happened to Charles de Gaulle, etc. It literally happens to everyone who holds power for a long time. The people put their griefs on the head of state instead of the government and parliament. In the case of Macron, it’s been years he didn’t have a majority in parliament, and every single reform has been blocked by both the far right and far left in parliament for simple electoral reasons (so they can say look he didn’t do what he said he would do, we’ll do it. While the truth is they are the reason it didn’t happen. And the irony is they say they care about French people They also call on massive, violent protests, thus giving the impression the French are unhappy even though it is just an active minority, while most French people don’t protest and are content with Macron’s policy. They do the same on social media, where they pay entire “armies” of people to comment and I fluency the public opinion). Then people accuse him of not holding his promises while he’s doing so but it’s being blocked in parliament.

What happened about the prisoner break out killing the guards? that was awful timing for macron. He called the snap election before more of that same type of event happens.
