MARINE Life Persisting Within A SEALED JAR │ Saltwater Ecosphere │ 6 Month Update

In this video we take a look at the Saltwater Ecosphere I built 6 months ago. A lot of life forms have gone extinct since the previous video. Many are still persisting and some are even breeding however!
The tiny marine snails are the most notable species you notice within this ecosphere. They feed on the seaweed and have a large breeding population. I imagine their population will continue to rise for as long as there is enough essential nutrients to support the population growth.
Another breeding species within this ecosphere are the Ostracods. I have counted 2 notable species. The first species are the long bean shaped Ostracods. They seem to come in both black and brown colour variations. These ostracods spend a majority of their lives under the sand. The second ostracod species are rounder. They are more likely to journey onto the surface of the sand, however can also burrow. These round ostracods have a blue and yellow tint on their chitin when viewed at certain angles.
I believe the pink clam like organisms are Thin Tellin (Macomangulus tenuis). They filter the water column for food. I am unsure whether or not they are reproducing, however there is a notable population of them.
The coolest species within this ecosphere is the Water-line Isopods. They are few in number, but easily my favorite species within this ecosystem. Originally their population was a lot higher, but it has decreased drastically. They can often be seen zooming around the jar in search of food. When they are not swimming around they are hiding underneath the sand.
THE AVOID CONFUSION:
The Saltwater Ecosphere was made on the 10th May 2021, however the actual creation video wasn't uploaded until the 19th of July 2021. People are asking if this should be a 4 month update, however I don't upload my videos immediately the same day the ecosphere is created. That wouldn't be possible. To put it simply, upload dates don't = creation dates.

Hi. Sorry that I've not been uploading recently. Originally I was taking a short break due to recovering from Covid. This was only meant to be a couple of weeks. During this time frame however a close member of my family got very sick whilst battling cancer. The cancer was terminal. When this was going on I didn't feel able to concentrate on my channel. It was a very difficult time for me, which ended with the loss of a loved one. At the time I didn't feel able to face the world and needed time to grieve. Time has passed and I feel ready to get back into youtube again. I hope you like the video.

For real lol. I have a few cool ecospheres both aquatic and terrestrial that are about 6 months old that I'd love to post on youtube, but I can NOT for the life of me get anything to stay in focus lol. These darn android cameras seem to want to autofocus on whatever takes up the majority of the screen rather than focus on small objects lol.

This is looking to be one of the most successful seacospheres ive ever seen, you look to have struck a great balance. An idea for another project could be a winter ecosphere, I never seem to be able to have any success with ecospheres made around this time, maybe you could have some better luck :)
@lifeuncovered6188
@lifeuncovered6188 2 года назад
I find the winter ecospheres to be usually successful, but there’s just less life as there would be in the summer or spring. I did find a couple new and unique creatures though.
@mrmissalot8311
@mrmissalot8311 2 года назад
@@lifeuncovered6188 I think what happens with me is the lack of sunlight coupled with the ecosphere still balancing out just after being built. It usually ends up with just a thick layer of algae on the glass.

Hey, I have a question for you. I have tried to create a jar ecosystem multiple times from a local pond, but after 2-3 weeks it becomes infested with algae and everything dies. Do you have any tips on how to create a more balanced ecosystem that can last longer? Thank you.
@EnglishLad
@EnglishLad 2 года назад
Yeah aquatic snails and certain fish help a lot with algae, as does zooplankton. What I like to do is mix a small sample of the pond water with a fairly large amount of tap water. Then you can decant the rest of the pond water into a separate container and transfer the plants, rocks and substrate straight into the new medium. The amount of algae in the sample you took will be much less, and the tap water will dilute the algae even further. You can then return the water column from the pond water back to the pond.

I’m taking it didn’t get heated up from the sunlight , was the lid ever opened to let any air inside ? There wasn’t any way to test the water to see if salinity changed or any other factors pH ? Did the seaweed finally disintegrate and everything perish ?
