Hearing some solid advice from the adversarial perspective goes to show the amount of pain and lessons learned in the conflict so far. While there's a bit of nuance and bias to the guide, most of it is sound advice for someone about to find themself in combat

"We don't torture prisoners." This come from a country where a few of their soldiers removed the testicles from a Ukrainian soldier while he was alive. I saw that video on Reddit a few months after the invasion began and it was horrific.

The Russians exchanged prisoners of the Azov detachment and British soldiers. There was no torture there. Stop lying. Ukrainian soldiers lie to promote Kyiv, and then they return to the front. As it happened with the Azov soldiers and the British mercenary. According to the agreement, Türkiye did not have the right to release these prisoners to Ukraine, but as usual, Western countries and Ukraine lied.

@@user-ke9il8vb2c Thats an insane thing to say, i hope you dont believe that yourself. Have you seen how the exchanged prisoners look? They are closer to death than to being alive. They have obvious signs of torture and are missing body parts they had when they were arrested during the surrender of mariupol. Uninjured people suddenly missing a hand, eyes or toes does not seem like torture to you? 100 Kg Men losing so much weight, they come back home with about 40 kg bodyweight seems normal to you?

I think it refers to what the Ukrainians called the meat grinder. The Russians just kept throwing troops at Ukraine and they were slaughtered. A Ukrainian soldier said that, “The only problem is that they have more men than we have ammo.”
@RickFromTheNetherlands
@RickFromTheNetherlands 3 месяца назад
Russia often use the three-wave assault strategy on well defended areas of Ukraine: the first two waves mainly consist our of poorly trained conscripts from all kinds of minority groups. They rarely carry armored vests and they are given about 10 rounds each. The first two waves are used to soak up Ukrainian bullets, with the hope 10% survives long enough for the third wave of properly trained Russian assault troops to arrive and consolidate. Rinse, repeat…

I'm gonna "sincere" myself here. Excuse my english, it's not my native language. I was a junior instructor for when the recruits start going into tactics training. Buddy system, bounding movement, overlapping fields of fire, spacing, fire & maneuver, etc. Since I battle insomnia since I was like 15, guess who moved between the position at night: Me! I also carried airsoft grenades so every time I saw recruits who were supposed to keep watch but were 80% asleep and didn't hear me... Frag out! Multiple people cuddled up to keep warm in an exposed position; Frag out! The instructors I had never really yelled, because you volunteer so that means, for us, you're training for something you wanna do, we just provide the knowledge and will encourage you when we see you keeping pace but struggling (we will yell at you if you do a colossal fuck up of course). Yeah, that's my little nugget of chucklery. Throwing airsoft grenades every, single, time, I saw something that should not be happening. You can imagine the grin on my face whenever I had the chance haha.

@ 29:38 DOESNT MAKE SENSE. Obviously there are times when surrendering is the only option aside from suicide. Yes, you are taking a risk when you surrender. But whats the alternative? imagine a scenario where your trench got stormed, your friends are dead, and your stuck in the dugout surrounded. And your being asked to surrender by the enemy. Do you continue to fight when its clearly and obviously pure suicide? clearly not unless you have the death wish. You surrender. And you decide to run the risk of mistreatment and torture as opposed to the alternative, which is certain demise. So i dont really get the advice. Clearly, obviously, there are times where surrender only makes sense unless you want death.

When I listened to the two-volume audiobook of “D-Day Through German Eyes,” I remember a point made by a German soldier who was captured on D-Day by the Americans. In his verbal interview from around 1950, he stated that unless there is no choice, a soldier should avoid using weapons and ammunition identifiable as taken from the enemy. If captured and found with such items, the enemy will assume you harmed their comrades to obtain them, leading to increased anger and vengefulness. The German soldier remembered that some of his comrades took Thompson guns from dead Americans because of their great power, but he saw from the Americans' reaction that this was dangerous and a bad idea. He also knew, from those who were sent to The Eastern Front, that the Soviets instantly executed any German found with Soviet weapons. I wonder if the Ukrainians have observed Russian battlefield scavenging of Ukrainian weapons -- or the reverse -- and how easily any such weapons can be differentiated after the fact.
