For the record, yes, people have actually leaked classified documents. For the Leclerc, the Challenger 2, the ZTZ99III (and 2 others, but Gaijin moderators caught them almost as soon as they went up). Never change, War Thunder Community
admittedly with the chally that was a case of information not being passed up the line correctly. His local intel branch OK'd it but when gajin asked headquarters they didn't get the paperwork yet
If I remember right the whole "leaking documents" kind of thing happened 7-8 times, one of which was actually from the Chinese military with one of their tanks. o7
Yeah... War Thunder players have posted actual secret documents before. Some of these include info on: The Challenger 2, A Chinese APFSDS shell, the Leclerc, and the Eurocopter Tiger (though I think this wasn't a case of documents, may be wrong). I may be missing something, but that is what I recall.
@@ChicagoReacts Yeah, honestly that's the best way to put it. It's cool having people with that knowledge in the community, but crazy that some think said secrets should be leaked for a game.
"Is this something that really happened?" It's happened three times. -The Brit leaking armor specifications for the Challenger 2 -The Frenchman that recorded a video of the Leclerc's turret traversing all the way around (to prove the game's traverse speed was inaccurate) -The Chinaman leaking technical specifications for an APFSDS shell used by the ZTZ99A tank All in an effort to convince Gaijin to make the game more realistic. It fell on deaf ears, every time.
I was there at the very beginning, only about a few months after the first open release. Good times, when you unlocked a whole row of new vehicles just by playing the nation. And yes, that leaking documents thing happened.. several times... in several different countries. And the low tier in high tier thing happens pretty much all the time. Low tier is generally the most fun and fair, high tier you get the best toys but so dose everyone else.
Low tier in theory is more balanced, the problem is the more skilled players would seal club newer players real hard, hell this one time I got 15 kills within 4 minutes using L-62 TL:DR Is low tier fun ? Yes Is low tier balance? Generally yes Is it fair? Fuck no lmao
I can actually face any low tier premium, heck I can even face a 2.0 premium as a reserve. But nothing has anything on the SU-11 at this point in time. So in my opinion that's the biggest change this game got, introducing premium to rank V and up. It objectively made the game worse.
There were five leaks like that if I remember correctly. The big ones I remember were: the leaked Challenger 2 manual which also included the composite armor specifications; the manual for french Leclerc tank; penetration capabilities of the newest APFSDS round China uses in their Type 99 tank. There were some other ones that forum moderators caught almost the moment they came out. It got so bad that Gaijin had to tell people to stop leaking confidential government documents and stated that they won't be using information from them. Someone out there is serving time in Chinese forced labor camp bc they wanted more accurate damage model for their tank in War Thunder. I love this community so much! 🤣
The uhh... Challenger, Leclerc, Chinese ammunition. And i think one was about the Tiger Eurocopter right ? Also started shortly before they went from the 20BRs system to the nightmare we have now.
10:00 not only has it been done in game, it has been done IRL. In the Korean war, a North Korean PO-2 Biplane "Killed" an American F-94 sent to intercept it by flying so slow that the jet stalled and crashed. It is the only recorded jet kill by a biplane. Also, yeah, the classified documents thing happened at least 5 times. People REALLY like their digital tonks.
I played this back when it was just air combat too. Met a guy who offered to show me the ropes, spent countless all nighters playing, so much fun. I stopped playing just before they added tanks and I’d love to jump back in but I’d have to spend a lot of time getting back to the level I was at and… I just can’t put that much time into it again. I wish I could though, seems a lot more fun since all the updates. Maybe one day.
Yes it happens, at least 5-7 times in total As for killing jets with prop planes, ive killed 2 jets (a G.91 and an Ouragan/Barougan) using 2 seperate P-47 via direct fire and manouver kill 1 (Ho 229), also in a P-47 (Soviet one)
I was there from the start, I remember the bomber crisis when bomber Ai gunner was pretty much aimboting and able to snipe you at 2 km away. back when all vehicles ingame gave you a daily X2 for the first win of the game. Now replaced by a mere 10% for 10 games, win or not.
I had my great moments in this game. There was one time I squaded up with my older brother and his friend where we operated as a tank squad. I was no noob but I wasn't exactly an expert. The same cannot be said for my brother's friend. He had a twenty-three kill streak with no deaths and it had gotten to the point where he ran out of ammo by the end of match, which is a rare occurrence since most players would die before running out of ammo.
There's actually a historical event during the Korean war of a North Korean Po-2 getting a maneuver kill on an F-86 Sabre. The Po-2 is a literal string bag.
As I've said to some other people in the past; The more serious segment on this video about addiction and self-worth really did reach me and did cause a positive impact on my life that, for once, wasn't brief and fleeting.
Been playing this game for roughly 6 years and it rarely gets old if you have good friends and are also a nerd about military vehicles and stimulators. I miss certain periods of the game, namely the way old top tier jets (early MiGs and Sabres, no guided munitions; 100% skill and crazy dog fights between veterans of the game) used to be, but I always can find a way to have fun in game. Videos from people like Whip_Energy are INSANE and highlight what made the game for me as a pilot and military tech nerd, they make for a nice dip into nostalgia for the way the game used to be. Btw- love that you dig Corsairs, my top fighter is the F4U-4B and absolutely love that airframe both in game and IRL.
I saw a p51 jump into a phantom and mig 21 game, not only was he the last player alive on our team but he got a kill early in game and a second while dogfighting 3 migs, one of the only times I haven't returned to the hangar.
I was in a game with my friend who had me bring him to top tier so he could use his Italian CR.42 (a biplane with two MGs). He proceeded to shoot down a MiG-21 with it, and then die, but it was pretty great watching it pop up in the kill feed. Also I'd say the higher in BR you go, the more potential fun it has, since everything is bigger, better, and faster, but it also becomes more unbalanced gameplay wise at higher brs. (low ones have their issues too but it seems to be the most atrocious at top tiers). Ultimately, I love playing both, and I hate every second of it
I literally joined the game in 2014 the day they released tank combat. I had learned of War Thunder from a friend about a month prior, but elected to wait until tank combat came out since I was more interested in that; and since then I've played pretty regularly. It has changed a lot since then. When tanks first came out, Germany and the USSR were the only options for ground combat; and in the air Germany, USSR, USA, Britain and Japan were the only choices for countries. The game engine was (I think) two or three major versions older, so a lot of visual effects we consider just part of the game now didn't exist - including destructible buildings/terrain. Weather didn't exist either: combat took place in broad daylight in all modes. Weather was introduced when tanks were added to the game, but it was found that fog and rain caused such performance issues that they disappeared about a month after the initial update and wouldn't come back for a few years, though different times of day started to become more common. Since then a lot has come to the game: other nations got tanks, more nations were added in general, the tech level advanced from the end of WW2 to the modern era, ship combat was added (swelling from PT boats to full-on battleships), helicopters were added, we've seen the addition of a multitude of historically interesting (but perhaps not very good) vehicles, vehicles with much more niche roles added, multiple new sensor and weapon systems have been added, a plethora of new maps, refinements of old maps, and several engine updates that added new visual (and technical effects). It's impressive when you look back on it all, even if there have been plenty of teething troubles on the way. === I will also agree with Sseth - low-tier (and mid-tier) is where the real fun is. Once you hit BR 7.0 for ground and air, it gets way more cutthroat. You can still have fun, but it'll be tougher until you get your vehicles improved. If you just want to have fun and screw around, BR 1.0 to BR 5.0 is where it's found most often.
For your question on air combat Era preferences, I must say my favorite is late WW2 Era tech. All of my favorite planes are in that Era, with only a few exceptions here and there.
I played this game when it was just air combat too. A funny side effect was that when ground vehicles came out and the game really started gaining traction, I was on hiatus, came back, played the lowest battle ratings and got called out for sealclubbing because my profile was like level 90 at the time. Brother, I was the seal :(
I remember when certain decals were free and there were only five nations to choose from... so yeah, I've been playing the game almost since the beginning (mind you, it was on and off for a couple of years but still) 13:17 I think it's more like 55% of players for realistic battles, 40% for arcade battles, and 5% for simulator battles
War thunder was one of the first PC games I played when I got a shitty gaming laptop back in 2013, I still play it on and off. I still remember when ground battles were first added and how hype that was, I also remember that they tried to balance things based on time period only, so I remember back in realistic battles taking out a kv1-11 and a t-34-1942 and coming face first with two tigers at 500 meters. I still remember the terror and also amazement at the fact that I actually survived for a whole 5 minutes in the open with that KV1. The community was much of the same, I remember how often cheating accusations would be thrown around in the first realistic ground matches as people were malding about everything. "CAS saw me and took out my tank even though I was in a tree line? Must be hacks", "I just shot a glancing blow at the strongest part of a tank? Must be hack", "Bro they shot me in the side as I was sitting still for 10 seconds and ammo racked me, they must have aimbot"
When it comes to aircraft, I love my new f-14 with TWS radar, but for land battles, you just can't beat the fun of heavy tanks from ww2 that can bounce shells like the T-95 doom turtle. I will admit though, dodging 6 heat seeking aam's that can pull 30g's does becomes problematic when you're in a warthog that can only push about 600 Kph on a good day. So as Sseth says, sometimes its best to decompress and hop in a nice WW2 plane like the p-47 jug. As my final words, Yes I have spent over $10k on my War Thunder addiction, Yes I have a poly drug addiction that includes Xanax and Yes I need serious help, but I've accepted that my life is forfeit to these addictions. I wish you all good luck in the future and a good life! :) Please look up benzo withdrawal horror stories before ever taking them, benzo withdrawal is hell and can last for years. Read what happens if you stop using, it's worse than any torture out there. Ps- Please don't take benzo's, I did without knowing what they do. They cause receptors in your brain to recede until they're gone and once that happens you need the benzo just to survive. If you try to cold turkey you will have seizures and die within a week. The only way to stop is to taper your dose over months until its basically nothing then once you stop you get to spend a minimum of 2 months in withdrawal but for most people it's years of constant hell, which causes many to commit suicide.
As an 'Old Guard' i can confirm the tech tree with only planes that is without supersonic capabilities was still very grindy and long. I played it for like the first couple of years non stop and to this day i still don't own any jets.
been playing since 2013 less then a year after it came out. i remember when i took a 2 month break back in the day and came back to see they had tanks. i took the day off school to try them.
I've been played since early 2014, pretty early on in the game's lifeteam. My favorite tier has to be either 5.3 or 5.7 with the germans. The iconic WW2 tiger and panther tanks make their appearance around that battle rating. Also the sheer power of the Do 335 intercepter that can even shred heavy tanks with 3 30mm autocannons loaded with armor piercing ammo. It's also the fastest propeller driven aircraft of the game
I started after they introduced American ground forces. I somehow stumbled onto Baron and PhlyDaily War Thunder videos, and after watching a ton of videos, decided to give it a shot. Been playing off and on ever since. Got just about every nation up to at least 5.0 in ground forces and at least 3.0 in air. I can play high tier due to some premiums I bought over the years, plus Americans are up to 7.0 now, but I much prefer playing Realistic mode ground forces in the low-to-mid tiers. It's just more wacky and fun, and I prefer WWII vehicles. For air, I stick to arcade low tier.
yes the document leaks happend... like 3 times one for the challenger, another one was from the chinese ammo documents for their MBTs and the other one was for the leclerc if im not mistaken
I don't know if they're still a thing, but in the early days of War Thunder there was a sort of sub-community of people who brought the Stuka into high tier games and immediately dropped their payload and nosedived to accumulate so many Gs that their landing gear would rip off, which would turn them from being incredibly easy prey to being able to kill jets. That was pretty cool.
I was there at the start - air only, maps with massive amounts of tree's nuke your FPS - different UI and fonts - just WW2 planes for a very long time with trash looking cockpits, bombers didn't even have any but if they did it was beyond basic and simple. for the most part air combat is the same as it was all that time ago minus some effects and likely features
I have been playing Warthunder since they began to add naval game mode and other than the occasional military personal leaking classified info on current military tactics and equipment, the community is pretty great!
I've been playing this game since 2013, and can definitely say i'm proud to be a Warthunder vet. Got into it thanks to loving the old WW@ documentaries and when i first heard of it, i immediately made an account and started playing
30:30 I first played WT in the air forces open beta. However after playing for about a year I quit. Then I joined the ground forces closed beta, and in its first week, I repeatedly scored over 20:1 in kill-death ratio, with my first game in Pz II being about 34 kill and no deaths since enemy has ran out of tanks.
When jets first came out and people where new to them, some absolute Chads would queue up with biplanes and kill noobs by baiting them into turn fights or over shooting them. Glorious.
The only time I've seen a biplane beat a jet it was basically that time in the Korean War where a jet stalled and crashed trying to line up a shot on the biplane.
I was there for update 1.27. It was certainly very different back then. You'd jump straight from the P-51D-30 to the F-86A-5 haha. Yes, we've had several incidents of leaked classified information on War Thunder forums.
I am a low to mid B.R 3 to 6.3 realistic Tank player. It is really a Different game at low mid and high B.R especially with all those game modes. I just really enjoy the feeling of sitting in a tank that can actually one shot(or be one shot) just by exploding. Also I would like to recommend the Videos of "Voldermlort's Guides" for the more detailed Lore Bits on each of the 20 Legions and the Sons of the Emperor
I've only been playing for a few years so I haven't unlocked amy jets left. I started before they added the tanks and such. I forget exactly when that was atm.
Hey i have been playing since the closed beta (2012 or 2013) and i have killed multiple MiG-9s, MiG-15s, F-86s, F-80s and Me-262s with soviet I-153P premium biplane back in the days. It has 20mm cannons though and ofc they were head on kills but in historical battles (Realistic was called historical back then). And my favorite BR is about 5.0 - 7.0. Those late WW2 and early korean war era machines are the best. Enough technology to have longer range combats but not too much to be hiding from hellfire missiles from drones. But i do like pretty much any BR...6.7 is just my favorite.
I saw a guy in an Ilyushin Il-2, a plane with a battle rating of 3.0, kill an F-14 Tomcat, which...I don't know if I need to explain to any multi-cellular organisms but, the Tomcat is an 11.3. He won a head on engagement AFTER being hit by a Pheonix, which is a 217 kilo anti-aircraft missile. One day, I hope to be as much a man as that ultra-giga-mega-sigma-chad. Even if it takes being a flaming corpse to be such..
last year I'm using P-51 diving from 41k feet and run strafe an F4 cruising fast to the battlefield used it multiple time during the match which is successful ngl
I was shocked he reviewed this game of all things, but then things returned to normalcy when he said he wasn't doing this willingly. That's on-brand for Gaijin. Despite how often I play drunk, this is a sober game. It's things like... you're aiming to kill the enemy crew. Whether or not the enemy machine is intact after it's done is not relevant. If the shot is bad, the best munition in the game won't help you. If the shot is good, the best armour in the game won't save them. One thing you left out about Arcade and Realistic differences is that in Arcade, you can always lock on to your enemy and their distance and vehicle type is listed under their name. In Realistic, lock-on is still possible, but it only shows things like Heavy Tank or MBT or SPG or SPAA, no designation. If the target's country has multiple versions of the vehicle your target looks like, you'll be left guessing whether your shots are bad or if it's a variant you've never seen before. This game also pretty handily tied up the loose thread I had about Modern APCs to me - they're just light tanks with squad-hauling compartments.
I was there when it was only planes, I remember playing tanks day one when the update hit. Also high BR is Fun but can eat away at your soul Low BR is fun but to me less fun I usually camp out in battle rating 3 to 5 cause that's where German tanks are fun for me
I wasn't there at the beginning, but I was there when they still had the proper 20-tier system. It was... addictive. 815 hours addictive. I dropped out of college because of War Thunder, no cap. 8 Years later... well, it's a fond-ish memory.
Even though I hadn't been there since the beginning, i have fought many battles ending in glory or in obscurity, as was the fate of all war thunder players. So just because you weren't there in the beginning, doesn't mean you can't start now. From the snowy factory of Stalingrad, to even the ISS space station, fight on brothers, to bring glory and infamy to the Chicago name.
6:55 Yep, this really happened As a War Thunder Player myself, heard about this and it's hilarious seeing someone leaking classified info about modern MBTs to prove an argument Even that's a crime to begin with 9:54 None so far
1month ago my commander told us we should stop leaking classifyd informations on war thunder because war thunder has some infos they shouldnt have about the leopard 2
Not with the origame paper plane. But I took out a Leo 2 in my ISU 152. Pretty fun and got banned from in game chat for a week after making fun of the guy who I killed. Worth it.
