From looking at this and the rest of the future commando stuff, it kind of looks and feels like they are almost being adapted to become a Tier 2 SF unit from what is already an elite, non SF unit. @1IbramGaunt
@1IbramGaunt 2 года назад
Well they shouldn't because British pride haha (yeah the newer versions're two thirds German lol but it's still a British DESIGN at least, and there's nothing wrong with it now thanks to H&K); I just feel we should be using our own stuff as much as possible to keep our seperate identity, especially when it comes to the military, and I don't see what major advantages the C8 really has over the latest SA80A3's, as it's still firing the same cartridge using the same magazines and the same optics & accessories, the SA80 being a bullpup the overall size difference is marginal, and sure the C8's lighter but not THAT much lighter, if an SA80's too heavy for you at 11 pounds you need to get back in the damn gym lol, people griping about that should try a Lee-Enfield or SLR sometime. Think the only major insurmountable advantage is the non-transferable right-shoulder only thing, which IS a fair point. Frankly that never seems to have been that big of a problem in previous actual combat use of the SA80 though, not something I've heard many veterans grumble about including the ones that definitely DID have plenty of other grumbles about that poor much-maligned rifle lol. At the end of the day the way I see it most people ARE either right-handed or ambidextrous anyway, and if you need to lean out of cover to the left of a wall in an emergency that's when you just DO use it from your left shoulder and accept risking a bit of hot brass hitting you because better that than actual enemy bullets

Gibraltar is located at the Southern tip of Spain, at the entrance to the Mediterranean sea. It was ceded to the British in 1713 by the Spanish and so it is a British Overseas Territory. The people there speak English and Spanish but a lot of British things, like the phone boxes are everywhere. It is a strategic Royal Navy port and the RAF are also stationed there. In addition, there is the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, which is a light infantry regiment with a Artillery Troop. They are part of the British Army as a defence engagement force. In addition, there are obviously British troops on 'The Rock' (as it is known) on a regular basis - as in this video.

I guess it was essential in WW2 hence the tunnels. Was ofc key for the 'empire' in trading routes. Like Falklands I believe the inhabitants wish to remain British despite being closer to other big nations. Find that odd but then i've never been there so I can only imagine it's for cultural reasons.

We still have a lot of the traditional red cast iron phone boxes, but mostly just for the history and how iconic they are. We mostly moved over to cheap stainless steel ones that didn't survive too well. But everyone has a cell phone, so the more modern phonebooths are probably even more rare than the traditional ones now. You mostly only find phone booths in areas that get a lot of tourists, cus tourists often don't bring their phones cus they don't wanna lose them, or can't be bothered to get international roaming

At the end of our Homeguard basic course (CQB part) we went into central Stockholm and cleared streets. They told us to treat it as a real operation and that barrels should be pointed towards windows and doorways along the streets. After about 2 minutes they realised that sixty soldiers appearing in the streets all of a sudden pointing their rifles at people wasn't nice. Still helluva fun. 🤣

Check out the RHODESIAN ''SELOUS SCOUTS'' considered by many in the upper ranks of British special forces to be one of if not the best guerilla counter insurgence special forces in their short seven year history in existence .

43 Commando Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines. Formally this task was perfomed by Commachio Group RM. 43 Cdo has been disbanded and reformed many times, as did 41 CDO (which has been disbanded) When my father served (1959 - 1968) he spent time with 43 CDO. When I served (1990 - 1998) the name 43 CDO didn't exist, it was Commachio Group in the 90's.
