Captain Ashley-Anne Wallace, descendant of Pvt. Lester W. Mullins, explains the backstory of her family and the importance of having a relative that was also a Marine. Mullins, Killed in action June 11, 1918, joined the Marine Corps out of Pagosa Springs, Colo., before being deployed to Belleau, France with the 6th Marine Regiment. This piece commemorates one of the many Marines Killed during the Battle of Belleau Wood, and comes on the tails of the 100 year anniversary of the battle.

To all Marines young & old, be proud of your family heritage in the Corps. If you come from a long line of Marines or the first and only Marine , as me, be proud. Our beloved Corps is based on Pride. Old Marine Sgt, 1973-1977.

Pvt Mullins was one of the Marines that earned the name Devil Dog for the those of us who would follow in his footsteps. Semper Fi Private Mullins. And Semper Fi to Captain Wallace.

Understand completely. I was the first ever in my family to become an U.S. Marine. I was WIA in Vietnam in 1968, and came home to a life with a service connected disability. Two of my cousins, both males, joined the Corps spurred on by my active service. Being a "Marine Family" has special meaning to us. ~Semper Fidelis~

Both my grandfather's we're Marines in the Vietnam era one uncle was a Marine In the 90s and my other is currently one and is a Maj. Soon I'll be one and when I have kids I hope they will too. Semper Fi

To the Marines of the past and to the Marines of the present I want to say thank you all. My younger brother was drafted in the Marine Corps while I was with 3/9 3rd MARDIV FIRE BASE STUD QUANG TRI South Vietnam in 1969. Those 4 years of service have defined me as a person. My dad had 5 brothers and two sisters. 4 of my uncles served in the army including my dad. All ww2 veterans. All are deceased now. I am the only Marine in the family 1973-1990. My son is a a gunnery sergeant and just put in his retirement papers. I couldn't be more proud. I dearly miss my Corps. That was a great story and part of why I joined my beloved Marine Corps. Thank you for sharing it. Guess I'm not the only United States Marine in the family. I was back then

My great uncles on my mom's side (her uncles)were all military one in the Navy during Korea the other two in the Army and Marines in Vietnam.I'm in MCJROTC I don't know which to join if I join the Navy I'll be an E-3 and the Marines a E-2.

What a great story. It's essential that we, as Americans continue to hear from our Marines. They are the ones who are willing to sacrifice their lives for our country. I am thankful every day for our Marine Corps (the bravest of the brave).

Mullins is a Marine name my grandfather,his dad and my great uncle were Mullins and Marines WWII, Korean,and Vietnam! It's a proud name be proud Captain!
