A pirate walks into a bar with a paper towel tucked partially under his hat. The bartender says to him, "Oi, what's that?" The pirate responds, "Aargggh, I've got a bounty on me head."
@@edhutton1293And being equipped with 50 cannons, 25 on each side and possibly being steam powered with paddle wheels makes that ship and possibly others the most modern warships in the world. The U.S. Navy was the most modern navy in the world until 1862 when the Monitor and the Merrimac were built during the Civil War.
@@cynicallydepressed1 No it wasn't. But during wartime advances in science and industry speeds development. Look at World War 1 and World War 2. In the latter Germany had the first jet fighters and jet bombers. Only 4 jet bombers were built near the end of the war.
Great and informative video. I never knew anything of this particular incident. I live close to Singapore and after watching this, I like to go visit that island in the future …
Hi, Guy. It's good to see you again. I've always enjoyed your accounts and all the depictions you include. Thanks bunches for all your research. God bless you.
A pirate walks into a bar with a car's steering wheel poking out of the zipper on his pants. The bartender asks, "Oi, mate, what's with the steering wheel? That looks uncomfortable." The pirate replies, "Arrrgh, yeah, it's drivin' me nuts." (I'll see myself out 😂)

Was waiting to hear "the rest of the story". Something to the effect of..several sailors and Marines went missing on shore but were later found drunk in the gutter outside a house of ill repute.
"...to the shores of Tripoli." It is no surprise that the young United States would want to project power around the world at this time. The US Navy and Marines first success globally was in the First Barbary War in 1905. Britian's global dominance was challenged between 1812 and 1815. The US significantly contributed to the reduction of Mediterranean piracy after the Second Barbary War. Heading west from America makes perfect sense in 1832 given prior successes.
It's surprising that as much as you like pirate stories you haven't made a video on the pirates of cave in rock. A little known story outside the local area along the lower Ohio river
@@pithicus52 there sure was. My father was just a kid when they shot the scene at the cave. His father took him to watch and sat on the Kentucky side. I've heard that story a hundred times 😂. We are from Crittenden county Kentucky
@@scotwilliams21 Thinking about it a little more, I remember in the late 1950s, early 1960s a bit of a craze for the period in American history around the revolution. Daniel Boone, The Sons of Liberty, The Swamp Fox. I think many of these shows were Disney productions. Songs on the radio included Johnny Horton singing The Battle of New Orleans. "In eighteen fourteen we took a little trip, along with colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip"
The map at 2:20 shows THG's spelling. I suspect (as is the case with many spelling variations) the spelling is based on who made the map. I too did not recognize the alternate spelling of Kuala Batu.
@@justme_gb reminds me of this obscure joke from the post colonial years: a British man checks into a hotel in newly independent Malaysia and says he knows how to speak a bit of Malay. The Malay concierge is impressed and asks for his name in Malay. The British man says "Terry McCarthy", to which the Malay concierge replies with "sama sama!" (you welcome!). The joke is Terry McCarthy sounds kinda like "Terima Kasih" (thank you) if spoken in a Western accent lol

I'm your 800th like❤ I don't know what that means for me but from a historical point where it was the year Charlemagne was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by the Pope in Rome. It was sort of a big deal. Just saying to me seeing 800 is like realizing your address is consecutive numbers, 1234 or 3435 and you go wow that's cool.
@ripvanwinkle2002 This is very true, and the way that you phrased it made me laugh, so thank you for that. It also reminded me of a saying on a t-shirt, which brought more laughter, so thank you again.
The piracy has not stopped and the misery e.g., human trafficking, cannot be underestimated... the US should actually take a greater role - tho, one would think, in a more forceful and enlightened way. But, make no mistake, our Judaeo-Christian way, till this day, are not the way of this area. I know because I have spent 20 years in the region setting up medical clinics and the things I have witnessed... well...
My brother in law I believe was traumatized by his years as a dependent in the kingdom🇸🇦. He told me once about witnessing a public execution, and that's in a country 🇸🇦who's supposed to be an ally in the region. The world can be a scary place but, peace through superior firepower seems to be working. It will be interesting to see if whoever wins in November if they'll back away from the money they're making showcasing US weaponry. If Kamala wins it's four more years of the same thing or worse. If Trump wins he doesn't get to start fresh no he's a lame duck so he's going to spend four years trying to figure out how get over that hurdle. I love Jesus, how about y'all?
I was with you until "our judeo-christian ways." Our humanist ways are what set us apart from the vast majority of people in history who came before us that were totally fine with slavery and genocide.

That sounds great, until it is China doing it. Idiot pirates doing it almost seems like a set-up for the U.S. to show off. Against another superpower, though? I'm not saying we should run into a war with China (for instance), just that empty jingoism isn't what keeps peace, it is economic seduction and a technologically superior military. Not a 30 to 1 ratio against pirates wearing flip-flops and bearing machine guns in a speedboat.
...and today its ten aircraft carriers and their supporting vessels. We've had Army generals (Washington, Grant, Tyler, Eisenhower) its time for a president that's a former admiral 😄
So, what qualifications does your candidate have? What has she accomplished in the last 4 years? Admittedly, America deserves far better candidates than what we have to choose from!
It's been a while, good Sir, since I've reached out to THANK YOU for the EXCEPTIONAL GOOD that you do for America and America's families. I Pray that your good wife and family are well in these trying times Our nations true and honourable past is worthy and critical to be shared with our offspring, so that they have a purposeful AND healthy sense direction. More so, it gives them continuity of action and a foundation of propriety.
