Good on you for adding back the part where MX kills the Toad at the end of the level. I talked with some friends of mine about how the original design of the first MX encounter was infinitely better than just MX in his fake form telling you to go back to the beginning of the level. The thing that made the original encounter so appealing was that him killing that Toad gave you the impression that you had to run away from this monster without said monster having to even say anything. MX in the newer one just telling you to go back was a huge step back from a design standpoint. So, good job. 👍
The original design i think still does a lot of things better, imo. The intro is a bit more subtle, with only a flash of mx at first, just a flash of his jaw dropping too far. I think this is the best way to introduce him first. The talking Mx in this one is really cool looking, but it should come later. Something about the way Mx kills the toad in the original is much better. There's a air of mystery about it: like did he just push Toad into the flag pipe, did he cut him first before he tossed him? Etc. Vs the less subtle "rip him in half". Then the sound effect at that time.... It sounds like all the air is escaping from a closed chamber, as luigi and mx just stare at each other, with Mx's sadistic grin. The sound of the air escaping the compressed chamber is a metaphor for Lucas' "innocence" existence being sucked away from him for good, for as he witnesses what has just happened, his innocence is being sucked away with it, for good. That is just perfect... Also, the original size / animation of the normal Mx sprite I think was just a bit better in the original. I also think when the game stutters after giant Mx jumps out of the pit is better, along with the "Wahooo" text... Just iconic. Everything else though, I think is an improvement. It is good to be able to juke around / jump on top of Mx. I also liked in in the previous version to this one how the sky would pulsate red as Mx would scream out his taunts to Lucas... This along with his additional taunts were a very nice improvement.
Man, this is amazing! It's a really nice addition that Lucas can use some powerups now, even though they are still pretty much useless against MX. And I also really love the fact, that MX's final form has a bit longer sequence here, and that you actually have to dodge him, not just run away from him.
This new Mario 85 game really took me by surprise, you are doing a good job Taiky, I congratulate you. I've noticed that Redux takes many fantastic elements from the original Mario 85, such as the background detail with the red particles that rise up and down when Mx chases you, or how the background music of level 2 is almost identical to that of the Mario 85 old.
For me , this version is much better, this make like original game but it's was it's horror game, and it's fixes glitch that mx final form kill you without touch you , good luck !
This is the best redux I have ever seen, it is super well done, I would say better than the original, I have to say that you did an incredible job, I hope this comes out soon, take your time.
I love the concept of going through a well known video game level that you know so well and then having to run away from some sort of horrific creature as it makes the level itsself look dead and ypu have to run backwards through said level
This is pretty cool! Though I think having MX's face appear before you actually meet him spoils the reveal a bit. I think something else could be done instead. The physics seem to be pretty spot-on, which is really good to see, as that's often where Mario EXE games fall short on, which ruins the immersion for me. I noticed though the "HELP" on the Toad has a smooth fading effect, which I think should just do a flat vanish, rather than a fade to help keep it appearing within the NES limitations. I really like how you can actually get a Fire Flower there to give you some form of protection against MX, with the fireballs temporarily slowing him down. I see HIGH potential with this project, and I'm eagerly looking forward to see where it heads!
I really like the new level design, reay incentivizes the dodging in the chase sequence to a genuinely challenging point. I hope we eventually get something like fire flower evil Mario with even more dangerous level design. Or maybe add in -1 just because. Honestly making scary versions of games needs to have more game part in them and I'm glad people are doing it.
I love this, it really feels like s haunted game, you can use power ups, MX behaves like another enemy from the game but pretty much invisible, also i really like that the name Luigi changes to Lucas in the cutscene It would be cool to have a secret ending where you find a power star and YOU now have to chase MX before the power runs out and defeat him, it would be pure gold,
Um hi so uh first of all I love your version of the mario 85 game I think it is the best version of it in my opinion but I looked closely at mx's sprite in false hero and pipe crawler form and I noticed there were buttons on the overalls honestly it's now my favorite version of mx keep up the good work man
This showed up in my home feed after I watched a chap called 'Vinesauce' play this game. I'm not usually not into horror games, but this looks great. Keep it up. Hopefully, this stays away from Nintendo's prying eyes.
This is soooo fvcking epic... is a fusion of the 2 demos! (Original and 1-1 remake demo) the 1-2 is interesting and can have many mechanics of the april fools build 1-2 but for now lucas... SEE YOU LATER
I'm outdated from this, is this remake here because the official version released? Or beacuse it was cancelled? I'm so confused the last thing I remember from that was just the first level and nothing else
I hate to admit but This and Fallen kingdom are sooo much better- Like the original 85’ was cool but had its flaws . I still defend 85’ but I won’t lie and say it’s perfect.
This is pretty cool Not a big fan of the part where MX shows himself though I think the version that Vinny plays has the best introduction of MX since he literally tries to kill you when you're back's turned It makes MX feel more like a prick and I think that suits his character
take a page and a pen, draw a big mushroom; add an egg, then two more.. add a withered cloud under here; now we'll add some coins; one; one; draw a hill at the back, with a rising sun, and theeeeeeeen... innocence, doesn't, get-you-far!
I apologies but WOW this is freaking good! Well this game kinda looks familiar for me because since mario 85 was created i was following game for whole time, and i still follow it. Game is getting changed into better in my opinion and it looks very cool and very detailed. I appreciate your hard work, good luck with this 👍
gonna make a quick educated guess, this game is never coming out fully and this first level is all that will ever be made just like the original maybe even a second level if were lucky
