The legendary Mario Andretti returned to a modern F1 car by jumping into the McLaren MP4/28 at the Velocity Invitational at Laguna Seca. These are his first few laps as he got used to the car, later on he got faster and faster.

@@blacktoothfox677 : No, this video was shot today, not in 2013. Yes, the *_car_* was a 2013 car (not "modern" as the title wrongly states); but this event occurred on Saturday October 15, 2022. One clue is the narrator saying "...the 82-year-old Mario Andretti...". Mario wasn't 82 in 2013, he was only 73. Yes, the video is very faded and grainy like an "old" video (screen-cap from commercial TV, with commensurate generation loss?); but never-the-less, it was actually shot just a few hours ago.

He took it relatively slow. Obviously didn't want to crash and having to get a feel for the car. But you could really tell he is a true racer as he pushed more and more every lap. Mario takes people for rides in a two-person Indycar sometimes, so he's pretty fit. The thing his age and his physical condition prevent him from doing is really stomping on the brakes of an F1 car. He was at the Children's Hospital, and my brother and I happened to be there visiting our sister. I'm he was there with his car as a publicity arrangement, but no other driver or team made the effort. Even at the young age I was at the time, he exhibited kindness and class. I have always felt fortunate and honored to have met him, and grateful for the time he took on a busy weekend to visit a bunch of kids who wouldn't have otherwise been able to go see the cars and drivers that came to town that day.
