One match from each of the 4 Battle arenas. I get together with 3 of my best friends from my youth for some nostalgic fun from one of the greatest multiplayer games of all time.
Words cant explain how much i miss this. Best memories of battle mode is when my friend slept over and then the next day my brother and his girlfriend would visit and we all competed against eachother for hours, it was so much fun. Sometimes me and my brother wouldnt get along at that immature age and he didnt like my friends much either but as soon as we played this game we had a blast lol. I also remember we would convince my dad to play with us and he had huge and clumsy hands and we would laugh at him for being so bad at the game.
I always liked the fact that even if you lose all of your balloons and turn into the Wedding Singer (yellow bomb) you still get a shot at revenge and blow up the guy who took you out. I just wished they had more battle arenas instead of only 4.
There's something so dramatic about the last-man-standing gameplay. Every hazard feels like life or death, every balloon taken seriously. If you're playing MK 7 or 8D's balloon battle and the score is 10-2 with 10 seconds left, there's no point in trying. But if you're playing MK64's balloon battle with one balloon left while your opponent has all three? That's a chance to make an amazing comeback. Fewer balloons means greater chance of death but better items... it's much more dynamic than "hit people until time runs out."
@@missingno2401 that one was the best: it had two great battle modes with elemination (no bombs if you die, but still) it had two of the best maps: block fort and pipe plaza it actually had cpu's in the battle modes
1:50 Peach and Yoshi used Triple Shell Combo on Bowser! It's super effective! Bowser fainted! Bowser transformed into a Bob-omb kart! Peach used mimic! Peach transformed into a Bob-omb kart!
11:52 - Was that an intentional surrender? Double Decker is always such a drawn-out war of attrition. I prefer to just avoid conflict, leave as many hazards on the course as possible, and hope I don't run into my own banana peels and fake items. And you can always sneak in some death from above with a red shell via the central opening, if people are down in the middle area.
Man, I really miss the simplicity of these old games. Call it nostalgia, or whatever you like, but there is a certain charme to old N64 games. I like how simple games were back in the days and most N64 games have this weird, dreamy atmopshere. There is almost something eerie about looking over the edge of Big Donut in MK64, or looking at the edge of the map in OoT, knowing that there is nothing behind that line of pixelated trees. Games were basic, back in the days. And I'm not trying to talk down on modern Nintendo. Far from it actually. They're the only video game company I still like and care for and their games are still of high quality. It's just that they're getting too big for my taste. Take BotW for example! I only enjoyed the first ten hours of the game, when everything was still fresh and new. But once I realised that what I did the first ten hours, is also the exact same sh*t I'll be doing for the rest of the game, I gradually lost interest. I tried getting into Smash Ultimate, but I just can't be bothered finding the right character out of 89 (!!) possible options. I played an completed SMO and it felt like a chore mostly. I guess younger players will have a hard time relating to that, and I can totally understand why. Back in the days, a roster as big as the one in Ultimat would have blown me away, but as I grew older, I started appreciating more and more how compact old games were.
Into the mid 2000's a friend and I would play the hell out of mario kart 64 especially the battle mode. I'd spend the night and bring all four controllers and we'd play all freaking night long!! Then I remember when Halo 3 came out and all the hype around the Xbox 360, My friends mom finally bought him one and sadly that was the last time we ever got to play MArio Kart 64. He wouldn't even look in the n64's direction after he got the Xbox.

because last man standing is so exciting more fun than "shoot to get points" bullshit from modern games. getting sidelined is not fun (especially if you're not skilled), but they could at least give us the option to turn respawn off.
@@leonpaelinck I understand it start Mario Kart Wii and I am thinking developers forgot about free for all when they are busy with online mode with additional 12 players , but Nintendo really forgot classic Balloon Battle. But they got it MK8 on Wii U and just went back Wii/3DS point again on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which I don’t get due to adding battle stage
Wow I miss this game. And also wow I’ve never seen 4 people all be so bad at this battle mode. Like 3/4 couldn’t jump turn or drift. Longest game ever!
mario kart was one of the first games to come out on n64. i think at the time the technology was definitely not up to par sadly haha. if it was released like 2-3 years later it could have prob fixed those things
