I just bought this great condition “new” Nintendo 3DS XL and Mario Kart 7 off of eBay last week… nostalgia truly is evil.
Anywho, I may have noticed a glitch within the Online multiplayer system.
As far as I know, Nintendo hasn’t shut down their online services for the 3DS/Wii U yet, so I don’t think it’s that. But please do comment if you know anything about this!

I've faced a similar issue just a few weeks ago. You're not the only one. This is possibly due to the end of the online service which is imminent next year in April.

I've heard that there's been someone going online and using a bot to screw up people's games and kicking them out, making the game unplayable online. I don't know if that's what's causing this but it might be related

The error isnt very specific but try to change parental controls if you havent already and then try
