This is my arrangement of the Mount Wario theme, taken from the soundtrack of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, and originally composed by Shiho Fujii, Atsuko Asahi, Ryo Nagamatsu, and Yasuaki Iwata for Nintendo. This is my favorite from the entire OST, it's magnificently set up as a multi-parts race backing song, and has this speed vibe that pumps you up !
I had the great pleasure to work with 3 other musicians on this one : I first asked Matthew Mukerjee, from Tetrimino if I was okay to play bass, and we quickly discussed adding more live instruments, namely violin, which would be played by Michaela Nachtigall, also from Tetrimino, and brass, by Marc Papeghin ! On the mastering side, this time I left the song into the hands of one of my local friends, who runs Studio Karma in Marseilles. The project took a few months to reach total completion, but heck it was worth it. Enjoy !

Indeed, back when we did it, it still had no attention at all. Perhaps because the soundtrack has not yet been released in the US and covers can't be licensed legally for distribution ? Either way, thanks !

I only just discovered this channel and i'm so glad I did! I never expected a remix or cover to even come close to the quality of the MK8 soundtrack especially this track which I think is one of the best, but honestly this cover is even better than the original! Incredible work! :)

I like how the music is amazing and epic, and the thumbnail is Mario alone. Maybe to signify he's been buried by an avalanche? At any rate, it doesn't distract from the song, which is good. Nice work, as always!

Thanks a lot ! As far as the thumbnail goes, I'm a minimalist and always go for illustrations with no text if possible. Here it happens to work with the title of the song :) I also don't like click-bait thumbnails, although that (and the fact that my videos are based on still-images) does not help me much reaching more people !

I wish it were extended somewhat. I could the same about the original song. Because the actual race course is only ~ 2 minutes long, the music itself is, all in all, ~2 minutes long. But what that means is that it goes through sections so quickly, to get it moving, that they don't have enough time to individually develop themselves. And thus, once the next sections come in, with their being more intense than the previous sections, I feel that rise in intensity is uncalled for, because it wasn't able to develop the less intense parts as well... I hope fellow readers understand what I mean. I really like the music, and this arrangement does it justice, but I just wish it were longer!

Thanks ! And yes I think I understand your standpoint. As a standalone piece of music, the intensity increase could have been more progressive indeed. In the game the music is really designed for the course, and although sections changes are pretty seamless, that one that you get when reaching the last part of the circuit does bring a lot more energy in one step. Here and like in most of my arrangements, unless the original material is much too short (~30 seconds-ish) like in some NES OSTs, I focus on impersonating a straight but elaborate rock band performance of the song rather than expanding it with new parts to make it stand on its own in a playlist. I'm still glad you enjoyed it enough to want it longer !

***** I do have conflicting thoughts about this kind of stuff. Mount Wario's music is great, but I wish it were longer...but if it were longer, players would never hear part of it because the course is only 2 minutes long on average in 150cc. In that circumstance, I think it would be great if Nintendo released albums of their video game soundtracks, with the music extended.

Yes, it could be a policy of their own to create soundtracks with that later use in mind. Like extended versions, or the opposite, writing long versions to begin with and having well adapted or layered edits in-game. Although, writing the music directly for a specific context still remains ideal in my opinion.

***** It's done for some Sonic the Hedgehog 3D games. If you go to the Sonic Adventure official soundtrack album, the songs are actually extended forms of their in-game files, and have proper endings as well. It helps make them more listen-able outside of context.

Caleb Jaaniste True, they are great examples. They include actual songs too, so they are really well-suited for separate audio distribution, and it's likely that it was the initial goal for those games' music. How I love those soundtracks !

Pretty much all instruments are live. True violin recorded by mklachu, true trompets recorded by Marc Papeghin, true bass recorded by HatTrax, true guitar recorded by yours truly :) Drums are rendered using Superior 2.0, and the organ sound is from Steinberg's HALion Sonic library.
