there are 2 classes of karts.... karts, and bikes. Bikes are hugely advantageous because you can go faster. Best game :P

The run would be pretty intense though. Try snaking for more than an hour straight, it's physically demanding. I think it would be cool, especially if they manage to get a Prolonged Rocket Boost or if they can dodge some blue shells without items.

The chat was definitely meming for the most part. Unfortunately though, what he did in Grumble Volcano is considered a skip, which kind of invalidates this run (although it was already invalidated since he chose Strategic items instead of Balanced).

He bent the rules a bit to make the run more marathon safe, which is okay, I believe other runs have done this before. I can't really say the same for the Grumble Volcano skip, but I hope he didn't intentionally break the rule.

Not many people want to risk a repeat of the poor display that was MKWii ADGQ 2015.

He missed Coconut Mall's glitch about 8 times or more, and finished the track in like last. He missed several other things as well, and he did not keep his composure (nerves took over). It was a trainwreck.

I can't say I remember many issues back in my days of playing this with 4 people on the ol' quadbox split screen, but then I'm certainly no expert on the subject of a professional presentation for it. Surely the vaunted GDQ tech crew could make it happen... :) Or does the word 'homebrew' imply the adjective 'illegal' in this case?

I feel like it's completely reasonable. It's a big event, 3-4 homebrewed Wii's isn't unrealistic.

Aera Ik Im a year late but Wiimifi and MrBean (one of the creators of the CTGP MKWii mods) made it so you can play MkWii thru LAN with multiple consoles

Alternatively they could set up the Wii's with LAN. Y'know... the thing to get computers and consoles connected through a wire? Get as many as needed (seriously they're raising thousands and a Wii will be at most like $80-$100), along with everything necessary (guessing the TVs may be the tough part) but hey, once that's done, you got ways to go. Provided they can mod the Wii appropriately (but that's completely legal and safe and is used for tournaments what could apply) and voila, you got lots of players in one room

It would have been much more of a spectacle if they allowed skips. Those get absolutely insane.

it just wipes out the random ai that he's far infront of, from ruining the run. of course people can play the separate category which includes them and go for records. but ultimately they're just down to luck, aswell as skill.

I'm a believer in allowing for luck in running, but that's just me. But hey as long as you play a recognized rule set with established records you're on level ground with the rest of the field.

Sure was. This could be done by the average 8500+ online points player. (back when it was active). There were a lot of shortcuts simply not used as well. (small time savers - but something a speedrunner usually does)

Kevin Santos hardly a speedrun when he’s mediocre though.

First of all, he played with strategic items, which is something pretty much no speedrun does, but he also performed a skip, even though he was doing a skipless run. He invalidated his 'speedrun' *twice*. Secondly, his play was extremely mediocre: simply look at dry dry desert, where he missed all wall glitches, hit a bat, and drove into offroad multiple times. Then look at moonview highway; he got hit by a car, even though the car cycles are completely regular. Any good speedrunner knows those cycles and doesn't hit a car. Though it may be entertaining, but you cannot deny that this run was just plain bad.

Well it's not a clip since he's not going through a wall, he really is just jumping over a gap and driving on solid ground, sounds just like a shortcut to me.

It's riding rocks, if just jumping over any gap and riding solid ground was allowed, Mushroom Gorge skip would be fine, but it isn't. Go check the rules on the leaderboard, Rumble Volcano is a skip, not a "shortcut". Shortcut is developer intended, that rock is not developer intended.

he said he wasnt even going to do the volcano skip but still did it to keep the run entertaining. sure, he got hit by one of the cars but he got hit right before a boost panel which meant he didn't lose too much time. strategic items actually helped him out so he could do 3/3 shortcuts.

Dapastrophe I think was mostly an entertainment run. I personally enjoyed the commentary and the run
