It is the fourth installment in the Mario & Luigi series, preceded by Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story from 2009, and succeeded by Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam in 2015. This game is part of the "Year of Luigi," celebrating the 30th anniversary of Luigi's debut. As such, Luigi has a much bigger role in the game than in the previous Mario & Luigi games
