Psst the title is a lie. World Records: 22:59, 47:03, 53:55, 1:05:50 Viewer questions/comments: 1:07:29 Sorry this one took so long, I was out of town at some sweet caves (Kartchner Caverns) bombch.us/CTbu It also took several days to get these world records! I'll be streaming this Saturday at 9PM US Eastern, and next weekend (Dec. 10th) I will be racing with Poo again :D We'll be doing even harder levels this time, so come ready for spaghetti.
Kourkid Pixel You are, like, the fifteenth person to ask me that, because I upload so infrequently that people keep forgetting. But you'll remember soon enough. All in due time… :3 (I'm trying to make another video as quickly as I can ;_;)
Because it was at the end of another of Carl's videos, unless he says that spiel so often that he uses extremely consistent wording. Either that, or we have ESP.
I've recently been learning how simple processors work (and how they're constructed) in electrical engineering. Even a circuit that just adds numbers, saves them and moves them around based on machine code takes quite a bit of abstraction. It's pretty cool how it all fits together. And there's still so much more to learn :)
The simple things are always complex in machine language, but I'm glad to see another person learning about them with a passion. Even though I'm learning to be a game designer, there's still so much to do to make a simple action work the way you want it to. Keep up the studies Alex, and don't lose your passion.
I don't even have super mario maker. Somehow I stumbled on this channel now I'm hooked. Indirectly, I'm now hooked on speedruns, thru suggested videos. Good work mate, clever and entertaining. You have a gift.
I don't ever see that happening. At least not anytime soon. There's still too much untapped potential with 2D (including a ton of unused assets and art styles) to make 3D as an immediate sequel. I think after one or two iterations, maybe. I also feel like 3D would be way too crazy for the average consumer to design and play. It would also take a LOT more work on Nintendo's end to get the 3D implemented. They'd also probably have to worry about things like scaling and stuff when switching between say, Mario 64 and Sunshine and Galaxy style graphics. It's a cool pipe dream to think about, but I think it would just take too much work to get it implemented correctly.
Hey Carl! Love the vids man, you're my favorite Mario Maker youtuber to watch. Just an idea, at around the 1:04:110 mark, the galoomba waking up actually does a jump that allows it to get onto the spring from a downed position, which is a property of the game I didn't really know about. I suck at level design, but I was thinking that that could be a cool little mechanic in a puzzle level or something, where you'd have to throw a galoomba underneath a spring, and use his wake-up period as a timer to get to another part of the level, where something would be activated when he jumps on the spring. I don't know if that made any sense cause I'm really tired at the moment, but it's just an idea. Either way, keep making great vids man!
Made complete sense, you can do this with koopas too in fact, but I really like the galoomba because you can throw it into position as you say. A tight corridor I think could make this work, or even ac onveyor that dumps it somewhere mario could never get to, under a spring.
Can't stress enough how much I love your channel and love watching everything, Carl. And the science stuff in between is like the cherry on top. Just finished watching the "One more"-series and I was quite sad, but now this video and I can't wait to see the next. Never quit, you're awesome!
Man you always brighten up my day, whenever I feel shitty, seeing you fail miserably at seanhips puzzles and the pain you go through really brings a smile to my face :P
@CarlSagan42 I've never been into super Mario kaizo or puzzles but now that's all I ever want to play when I'm on Mario maker. You really are the reason I enjoy these levels. I even started making some of my own because of you. Keep being awesome Carl!! Much Spaghetti!
I know I've said it before Carl, but I'll say it again. I really appreciate you editing this for youtube. pointing out areas of the map that you're reffering to (helps me follow what you're talking about better) or cutting content you think won't be entertaining. I know it's alot of work , so thank you for going the extra mile for your viewers.
Carl's indomitable spirit and perseverance are what makes these videos so great. No matter how difficult or frustrating the level or puzzle, no matter how many times he screws himself he never loses his cool or quits. Carl uses Mario Maker to teach us all how to life, and makes us smile, laugh, and learn all the while. Carl is my Mr. Rogers for adulthood.
22:01 the look I give my friends when I kill them at a LAN party. Instead of Spikevegeta and Trihex rubbing their afro's together there's just a monitor tho, unfortunately. Love your videos, carl! ^_^
I have to agree Carl, its always amazes me how people create these puzzle levels. Its so cool all things you have to do to beat it, how every mechanic work and change, resets doors, the cool traps. Peoples creativity always amazes me. Also thanks for adding the talk part at the end! its nice to listen to.
1:05:35 "I try to understand Computer Science as much as I can, even though I do Biology..." I found this hilarious to hear because I'm a Computer Science major who tries to understand Biology as much as I can. Great stream again!
I'll thumbs up the video now and watch it after work tomorrow. Thank you for these. You are hilarious, educational, entertaining, comforting, and fun to watch. I forget my woes as you live or die through these creative (and sometimes horrendous) levels. Have a great weekend. :)
I'm a new viewer and I just wanted to say that these puzzle videos are so satisfying to watch, how you find what to do is so amazing, you deserve way more than 100k subs :/
sean is insanely smart, these puzzle designs are just ridiculously clever, everything from the "how do I do this" parts to the "fuck, I messed it up" parts
You figured out the solution for the first puzzle so much quicker than I did. I was anticipating how long it would take you but it was quicker than I thought.
+CarlSagan42 If you are interested in learning how you get from a logic gate to a full computer, read this book: www.nand2tetris.org/ I loved it when doing vacation in the dominican republic and basically devoured it when lying on the beach. :-D
Someone gave me a SeanHipp puzzle in my stream tonight and it was one that you covered in your video. I couldn't remember what you did but I told the guy about your channel so hopefully he subbed. But anyways, we tried for about 30 minutes and still couldn't do it. So you my friend are the king of puzzle solving! Well, what we can concur from this evidence is that I am terrible at puzzle solving but I still think you're the king haha
that hide n seek level was the best puzzle I've even seen and the blind execution was amazing. total and consistent "i have no idea what is going on but I think??? I'm making progress?" from beginning to end with a flumuxy finish.
I've only ever caught one of your streams, and even that one was cut short. However, I've watched all of your vods... Ps, in case it wasn't obvious, I have too much free time... Great work on these videos!
Thanks for uploading all your stream content Carl. As a Brit, I'm not usually awake when you stream so it really makes me happy to see your content when it pops up on here :)
Fun fact on Hide-N-Seek Puzzle: if you look at the preview before you enter the level, you can see a bullet bill launcher connecting the beetle to where the muncher spawns.
I have binge watched literally every video over the last couple weeks, so anytime a new one drops I'm ravenously consuming them. I adore these videos. And I watch them before bed to help settle my brain (tho kaizo levels are better for that, as I tend to try to logically solve the puzzles myself, which makes it harder to sleep >_
Really nice thoughts at the end of this video! I never have seen it this way. Running up and down some stairs before getting to play for example Street Fighter might be a good idea! :D
Huh, the last level had an extra anti-cheese thing in it, right? The red coins aren't actually needed, since the puzzle gets the spring only at the end anyways, and you can't reach the door without it, and you just kinda passively get the coins as you do the puzzle. I'm not entirely sure if you even can cheese to reach the spring early, but it's nice to see that won't actually accomplish anything for you even if you did do that.
Yeah, using the coins in this way is a good idea & I assume Sean will probably do it in the future. just in case, because you might miss different cheese & this way there's less to worry about if you force them to go somewhere anyway. Could still be cheese but at least they'll still have to go to all the places you want them to go at least the one time.
The first puzzle I watched live, is the first one in this video. Enjoyed it very much, especially when Seanhip was hoping, you wouldn't realize the coins by Yoshi. :D Keep up the good work! P.S.: What do you think about the levels made for Dashie?
Hey carl, if you see this I would really like some advice on what field of science I should major in. Huntington's Disease runs and my family and almost everyone on my dad's side of the family has it and I have a 50/50 shot of having it too. As you can imagine, the search for a cure/treatment is a very personal cause to me and I would really like to dedicate my career to helping find a cure for it. I just graduated high school and was going into the military but seeing 2 of my relatives go to nursing homes made me change my mind on a career choice. It's a genetic disease that generates defective proteins that kill brain cells. Would neurology help me join the cause more or something in gene therapy? I don't even know where to start. If you could give me even some basic advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Well, I'm not Carl and I don't know where you live, but I don't think it matters that much in which medical field you go. As long as you perform well and graduate. Then you can apply to a research facility relating to Huntington's. At least that's what I'm going to do. I just want to go into research at some point and most people tell me it doesn't matter whether I've studied biology or medicine or XY as long as I'm performing really well, so that I'm good enough to get accepted.
subwayvesubscriber do you think biochem would be relevant enough. I already took a college biochem class and I really enjoyed it and did really well in it too. Thanks for the response btw
Jeff Jackson I don't know enough about Huntington's to be able to judge that. But just ask someone who does. But if you're doing really well in biochem, you could consider choosing that as a career field. I understand that you have personal motivation concering Huntington's, but perhaps you should also do what you're good at. You might not help people that have Huntington's but you can still help others.
subwayvesubscriber thanks so much for all of the advice. I'm gonna try to figure out some other fields that are relevant and then explore all my options. Thanks again.
I just found you/subscribed so pardon my ignorance if you've done these already but I can't find the videos - Have you done Dan Ryckert's puzzle levels? (The Ryckoning, The Klepocalypse, Armageddan) They're some pretty massive puzzle stages with a lot of backtracking/figuring shit out/item hoarding and so on, I think you'd like them and it'd be entertaining to see you play them!
"...Looking forward to what strats it'd come up with..." Terran-bio. Obviously. Terran-bio is so overpowered that no even a computer would miss out on that chance.
I've got 1 hour left of work, literally nothing to do, nobody else is in the office and then I see this pop up, is there a better way to start the festive season than with a new CarlSagan42 video?
no cause when he kicks it up the wall pushes it to the left a bit and it lands just out of marios reach, if i remember correctly. that or mario cant grab stuff that is too far off screen. i could be wrong, but i doubt seanhip would miss a cheese that simple
Holy hell that Hide & Seek puzzle was brilliant! Have you gone back in the editor to figure out how the beetle spawned on top of the muncher? That's the only part that I don't get.
SmashTom The beetle was stacked on top of a tall bill blaster that the ground at the top prevented from spawning. The bill blaster was stacked on the muncher as well, so I'm assuming that if the middle part of a stack doesn't spawn, the remaining members stay stacked.
