The Wario style moustache in Wind Waker are most likely to nod to Wario World, another GameCube game (and the DS sequels just kept in style with Wind Waker)
In the satellaview version of SMB2 (considered it's sequel), BS Super Mario USA, it is revealed Wart fleed into another world of dreams to prepare for a rematch. And Mamu is called Wart in many languages... It's him
A couple of things here: 1) Although yes the Ocarina of Winds sound is the same as SMB3 warp whistle; that's also the same tune that plays when you use the Whistle in the first LoZ game. 2) Yes, the Star Fragment treasures resemble the Star Bits from SMG 1 & SMG 2; however in both instances the developers have stated they based the design on a popular Japanese candy Konpeitō; so that's like saying one American game is referencing another American game when both publishers based their item in question off the Skittles brand.
Need to make a quick correction. the whistle sound is actually from the original Zelda game. not Mario 3. Mario 3 made the reference to Zelda not Zelda reference Mario here.
11:10 Actually that flute sound already appeared in the very first Zelda game, long before Super Mario Bros. 3. So this should be a Zelda reference in a Mario game rather than the other way round.
The song plays in the world 3 map screen, not in the levels. The whistle was from Zelda 1, released years before SMB3. Wizrobes exist since the first Zelda, so thy're older than Magikoopas. And a lot of these are reaaaaally big stretches I wonder if you're a yoga instructor or if you played any of these games and just copied these from quick googling.
13:00 Please play Spirit Tracks it’s so good. The controls may be kinda bad at first but trust me the game itself is really good SP is extremely underrated
@@Copycat_YT Well there could be the knockoff piranha plants that scatter the land as well as the gratitude cristals that look like starbits, but it’s true there’s mostly references to other Zelda games
@@Copycat_YT the character you play as in Skyward Sword has a very strong resemblance to a character in Super Mario RPG that you find sleeping in a bed at an inn.
At this point, they really ought to have Link jump down a warp pipe, or even have a Mario-esque level with Mario physics/rules like in 3D Land, which had a Zelda themed level! Can you imagine Link jumping around with Mario's agility? Because that'd be so dope tho 😄
I think I remember reading somewhere that Chain Chomps were originally intended to be Zelda enemies, first, but ended up being used in Super Mario Bros. 3, instead, making them debut as Mario enemies, instead of Zelda enemies.
Same goes for the spinning "fire bars." They were originally considered for Zelda, but used in Mario instead. They do appear in "A Link to the Past" though.
Zelda ALttP: The Turtle Rock dungeon even has Pokeys, (i believe even Spineys but i am not that sure of it), spinning Fire Bars and moving platforms you create and warp pipes. This dungeon is actually my favourit one because it's Super Mario themed. I think the SMB3 flute sound was already in ALttP's Ocarina. Looks like the references get less and less with each new Zelda entry. I hope TotK has a Mario reference somewhere.
It was the original flute theme actually, LttP has a different one. And yeah, I'm not sure why they aren't getting Mario references in anymore. I was also looking out for Zelda references in the Mario movie since the streaming version was supposed to release the same week TotK came out. Tons, and tons of classic Nintendo nods ( mostly Punch-out for some reason?) but no Zelda that I saw.
I can already think of two references; 1. Talon and Ingo are clearly based on Mario and Luigi. 2. The Happy Mask Salesman has what appears to be a Mario mask.
They even wear red, and green, a common color choice for sibling characters in Nintendo games. Like in the newest Dillon game, there are 2 wolf sisters who wear red & green outfits.
If I'm not mistaken, a links awakening was actually a secret project that eventually got taken to the lead project manager and he liked it so he took it higher and it eventually got published. I'm gonna guess that is why there's a few more references in that game. 🤷
I played Spirit Tracks and while I'll say it was a good sequel to Phantom Hourglass, the Spirit Flute mechanic was...odd. I never completed my playthrough because the second to last time you need to play the Flute to open the Spirit Tracks, the pattern required you to slide from one note on the far right to the left and the game can't "register" a note in between the two or you would fail. The other reason for failing was to not play on tempo. Playing too fast or to slow would cause a fail. I gave up after spending several days trying to play it right...I don't think I could play it correctly even now
The Warp whistle from Super Mario Bros 3 is actually a reference to the original The Legend of Zelda, so is more referencing another zelda game than a mario one
You Forgot to mention the magic whistle in super mario brothers three and the original legend of zelda Are the same. Also the title screen music for ocarina of time is also the magic whistle theme from super mario brothers three.
At this point, they really ought to have Link jump down a warp pipe, or even have a Mario-esque level with Mario physics/rules like in 3D Land, which had a Zelda themed level!
I enjoyed this video from beginning to end. So I noticed there was no mention of skyward sword. I don't mind I actually didn't enjoy that Zelda game, but is there no mention of it because they're just isn't a single Mario reference in that game or is it possible there is one? Also in the original Zelda I always thought that one of the shopkeepers with the mustache kind of looked like Mario but who knows Maybe he wasn't supposed to
11:13 - Actually, the "Warp Whistle Tune" in Super Mario 3 was a reference to the first Legend of Zelda game, as Legend of Zelda predates Super Mario 3. In Legend of Zelda, the "Recorder" item played that tune and summoned a tornado to take Link to previously cleared Labyrinth levels. Of course it also had other uses like draining certain lakes and making the Digdogger boss vulnerable to attack. Super Mario 3 used the "Warp Whistles" to summon a tornado to take Mario or Luigi to the Warp Zone. So, actually, this Minish Cap reference is actually referencing the original Legend of Zelda.
Is the cross over characters/bad guys simply an Easter egg kind of thing or just being lazy and not wanting to invent new characters but instead rehash? 🤔
Spirit Tracks is pretty low in my own ranking, thanks to weak dungeons and slightly uncomfortable stylus controls, but I enjoyed it enough to finish it (more than I can say for Zelda II) and it does have a great incarnation of Princess Zelda.
I feel like The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past has an overall more expanded Mario series reference in Turtle Rock and it's not just the Chain Chomps. For one, you rescue Princess Zelda from a place called Turtle Rock which Bowser and the Koopas are highly inspired by turtles in terms of animal species and that could be a tie to Peach being rescued by Bowser at the end of Super Mario Bros with Turtle Rock being one of the last main dungeons in the game. There's also other subtle references to Mario in this dungeon that being a room filled with lava which is a common hazard in Bowser's Castle levels. There's also rooms having things you travel through that also behave very much like pipes. Another thing to consider is an enemy named Hokkubokku that very much reminds me of the Pokeys from Super Mario World with how you defeat them having multiple segments you attack to get rid of it with the head being the most vulnerable. So yeah, Turtle Rock in itself feels like the biggest Mario reference in the whole game, not just the portraits of Mario in houses.
Wind ocarina in minish cap is not copied from Mario 3. Actually the original legend of Zelda was the first. Then it was re used in Mario 3, later in the loading screen for OOT and then in the minish cap
Zelda 2 drew from Mario because its a side scroller? Really? That's a major reach just to generate content. The majority of Nintendo games are in that format. Just ignore the top-down perspective completely. Looking forward to your growth as a content creator. Hope you learn from these mistakes.
While playing through totk and unlocking the Great Fairies, I noticed that the Stable Trotters conductor looked awfully like Nintendos staple Italian Plumber and he even does his signature “wahoooo” when he celebrates, just a thought…
Most of what you said was just wrong. First of all, they looked nothing like mario and luigi at all. And saying he looked like E. Gadd? Really? He's shorter, glasses are broken, and his bone structure is even different.
If you've played enough of Tears of the Kingdom by now you will know that the character Mastro looks like Mario in disguise. I was hoping you would share that opinion in this video so I could feel validated.
You also should have included yhe wizzrobes from Wind Waker as they quite literally have the same attack and movement animations as the mario wizards, right down to the slow twirl as they disappear and the way they cast fireballs.
In tears of the kingdom at the woodland stable there can be a traveling musician found that is short, goes wahoo, has a pink pointy nose, and a mustache
No offense, but a number of these feel like reaching to find a reference. Some of the references you mention are just things that kinda look like a Mario thing, without any definitive connection. A lot of these are legit, but I wouldn’t say all.
Mario 3 released in 1990 the original Zelda released in 1986 so the warp whistle sound and wizzrobes were made before magic Koopas and that stupid whtle
You got it upside down, the flute was first an item in the legend of Zelda original game, then it made a cameo in mario 3. There was also a flute in link to the past which functioned like the mario 3 flute as a warp zone. The hammer was also in link to the past, I don't think it's a reference to the hammer suit.
So we're going to ignore the fact the Poe was created as a Hyrule version of the Boo, in that they're a ghost that disappears when looked at (through Z-targetting this time)
Zelda was in developement before mario. He needed to buy time to release it do to the game taking a while and so he created mario in the meantime to have a release and it became a hit and he borrowed enemies from zelda and put them in mario to speed along the release.
13:00 its actually not as bad as people say it is the worst thing I can say about it is playing the instrument isannoying and I wish it had real controls as an option
