If it wasn't for the massive hair she had in her earlier gaming appearances, we could have seen more of her in video games during the 1990s. Why did classic Daisy suffer from bad execution? In America, outside of children, 90s society was very xenophobic. Back in the day, most people didn't realize Daisy was a different character only because she looked too similar to Peach in her early video game appearances. If there's anything to blame for Daisy suffering an identity crisis for a decade, it's our xenophobia. Don't get me wrong, we loved trying new things localized from Japan, it's just that the majority of Americans at the time didn't understand Japanese culture. Anyways, Daisy to me is Rule 63 Video Game Weird Al. If you think about it, Daisy was made to be Peach's tomboyish doppelganger anyway because Daisy and Peach share the same body type. I wouldn't consider Daisy a Peach clone per se, but rater her tomboyish doppelganger. If you love parody characters or like tough girl characters in video games, Daisy is your girl. The reason why I think Nintendo stole Daisy's design from Azalea is that they wanted people to understand that Daisy and Peach are different characters. Or else, they wanted to make up for the 90s as people wanted to see Daisy in video games but didn't know that she was a different character to begin with.
@@jakeystarsuper Exactly! Stupid Americans got deceived by Daisy looking too similar to Peach in Mario Land, so Nintendo censored Daisy for major appearances for the 1990s! They were just jarred and confused that Daisy got the damsel in distress role in Mario Land. Not only that, many accused her of being a Peach clone just because her earlier designs looked too weird. As it seems, she first appeared at a time western society couldn't tolerate anything outside of the norm just because it was confusing for society to take seriously and it was too weird for kids. Japan didn't get deceived, but we did, and that wasn't fair! As it seems, Daisy was made to be femme fatale and tomboyish semi-clone of Peach. Back then, I hated that everything got censored just because it would deceive young children and it is too weird for their age. I'm glad we have matured because it wasn't intended to be offensive to kids in the first place. Scared of American children being deceived? Not cool. Although I feel sorry for Daisy getting restricted video game appearances, and is forever forced to stay in Peach's shadow, I'm glad she made numerous video game appearances. I'm not blaming people for Daisy's identity crisis, it's just that western society wasn't smart enough to keep up with Japan's weirdness, that's all...
@@jakeystarsuper Exactly. Daisy was never intended to be a Peach clone to begin with and she got censored for major video games during the 1990s only because many people got deceived by Daisy looking almost identical to Peach in her first appearance. That's why they didn't know she was a different character. Their weak simple-minded mindset was to blame for Princess Daisy's identity crisis in the 1990s. I feel sorry for Nintendo not allowing Daisy making major playable video game appearances for the 1990s.Nintendo hand no intention to make Daisy to be a Peach clone. In reality, they wanted Daisy to be Peach's femme-fatale opposite. To summarize Daisy in Palutena's Guidance, Daisy make have looked almost identical to Peach at first glance, but make no mistake, she is a totally different character. Even if Daisy was Peach's Echo Fighter in Ultimate, Daisy was made to be Peach's tomboyish semi-clone with a femme-fatale personality. Peach and Daisy share the same body type, but they have opposite personalities. Peach is the modest girly-girl whereas Daisy is a tomboyish femme-fatale. The only reason why I didn't like Daisy getting censored for major video game appearances back in the day was because in her first appearance, she was just a flower-themed reskin of Princess Peach. That one RU-vid video of Daisy being Nintendo's queen taught me that Daisy didn't make much 90s video game appearance only because she looked too weird for western society to take very seriously. I'm happy you remember that Daisy was not a Peach clone and wasn't intended to be one in the first place. The only reason why western society didn't take Princess Daisy very seriously in the 90s was because they got deceived by Princess Daisy being a flower-themed reskin of Princess Peach in her first two video game appearances. Even so, she's one of the best Nintendo underdogs in video game history.
I never knew that princess peach have telekinesis to control the trophy and rapidly take it. And about Daisy....she's pretty cute and silly and i like it 😊
3:47 - Jessica Chisum had quite a lot of charm with her Daisy voice. In fact, I’m pretty sure Jessica’s portrayal of Daisy was probably the best, because the one we’ve seen since Mario Party 3 has this "be #1 at everything" mindset and it sorta bothers me (don’t get me wrong, it’s not a mindset I hate, but you have to do it right - see SEGA with Maguro Sasaki). Hopefully Giselle Fernandez’s portrayal of Daisy from Mario Wonder onward will be a step in the right direction, because so far vibes of Jessica’s Daisy are all I’m getting from her.
At 7:07, if you look closely. The non Mario characters Kate. She's kisses her own trophy. Talk about weird but it's her own trophy. Lol. Also, in one of Kate's trophy celebrations. I feel bad for Harry. The non Mario characters. All he wanted was to propose to Kate. Then gets rejected from her. Oh well, there's plenty of women out there in the sea.
@@alextalbain9269 OH God No... the fact that Tomboy Daisy is way more Entertaining, Iconic and Unique to her, compare to N64 Era Daisy who legit gives me Peach Vibes (but Worse)...
I miss Donkey Kong Jr... I wish they would've brought him back for Mario Tennis Aces, 'cause he's the only one who didn't make it back with the rest of the perfect attendance crew (sans the GBC characters).
Lol donkey kong Jr is Donkey Kong. If you played the original Dk Jr, it was Donkey Kong saving Cranky Kong after the original donkey kong game you play as jump man. They reference this in the latest DKC returns and tropical freeze I think
The Donkey Kong we see in this game is actually the son of Donkey Kong Jr because Cranky Kong (DK's grandfather) is confirmed to be the Donkey Kong from the Arcade game.
@@sebastiantheshadowkong8798 . . . Then why do we see DKjr (who clearly hasn't aged a bit) hugging Donkey Kong like they aren't gonna tear the fabric of reality? What is this, Meet the Robinsons?
Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi and Donkey Kong: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Peach and Daisy: 😍😍😍😍. Baby Mario and Donkey Kong junior: ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️. Toad, Paratroopa and Birdo: 😅😅😅😅😅😅. Bowser, Shy Guy and Boo: 😳😳😳😳😳😳.
I was thinking Waluigi would’ve stolen Luigi’s trophy, but nope, he was about to chuck his own trophy at Luigi. I never knew Daisy and Birdo used to sound like that.
I miss THIS version of Daisy. Back when she wasn't an athletic tomboy, but rather a sweet person/go getter who liked having fun, can be a little silly, and gave everyone a charming smile. She didn't need to be a tomboy to be athletic is what I'm getting at.
@@lfraycray idk if I would count on Nintendo to put it on Switch online seeing how it seems like they don’t pour a lot of resources into Switch virtual console. If you really wanna play it you could always just emulate it. Or buy it on the Wii U or just get an N64. But who knows. Maybe one day it will be on Switch online
Who on earth are those 4 other characters I've never seen before(Alex, Harry, Nina, and Kate)? Guess I haven't unlocked every character like I thought I did!
They're from the GBC version of Mario Tennis. They're unlocked connecting the Transfer Pak and a copy of GBC Mario Tennis to the N64 game. There are also extra courts that can be obtained through this method, such as an extra Bowser stage, and even a Waluigi court!
no. Cranky Kong is canonically the og Donkey Kong from the arcades. And since Cranky is modern DK's grandfather, that would make DK Jr. modern DK's dad.
You need to get a gameboy color, the gbc version of mario and a transfer pak for the n64, start a new game in the gbc version and select alex for one file and nina for the second then when your're done, remove the gbc gamen and put it in the transfer pak, plugin the trasfer pak to the n64 controller and boot up the n64 version, the transfer pak menu should show if it doesn't then rest it a few times then in the trasfer menu hit refresh then transfer and you have them unlocked and you can also exchamge data between both games, you can get more courts for the n64 version that way, and ger more characters in the gbc version too
To be fair those characters are just as canon to the Mario universe as Waluigi is, or at least they were when the game was brand new. But I get your point, less generic humans, more iconic Mario characters.
Here's 4 Characters to replace them with that meet the "human" requirement that this game was going 4, 2 girls, 2 boys, like it is. Captain Syrup and Pauline, and for the boys, Foreman Spike and Stanley The Bugman. Or if you want you could have Prince Pine. Just good ol Mario human characters that were looked over when making this game
