I’m happy that they merge the original with kid friendly ness of modern Mario and still made faithful to the original. I heavily recommend this as a Nintendo Switch Starter! (Spoilers) There are some cut content I’m not happy with. Like maybe the Hey Come Back Here You Big Monkey, and Donkey Kong Crying at the ending (Now he’s Angry). Also Fireworks appear out of nowhere.
The $50 price tag is highway robbery. The game would be a fine enough, if uneventful, remake if it were priced around 20 to 30 bucks. As is, this is just a blatant way of getting some easy cash instead of offering the original on the NSO expansion pass (which is already anti-consumer instead of just letting people buy classic games independently). Normally this is where I'd recommend just pirating the game but so little has improved from the original (and in some cases it's worse thanks to no fall damage) that I'd just recommend sticking to the GBA original either in physical form or emulation (since Nintendo sure ain't selling it).
$50 is fair. It's a full remake and the original was $40, so with inflation it's actually a tad cheaper than it was originally. The only thing is it's probably not worth it for people who already played the original.
