Walking into Remnant Brewing with two cameras and a tripod slung around my shoulder, I felt the usual pre-interview anxiety that typically accompanies asking someone I look up to an innocious amount of questions. But I was also faced with a healthy dose of logistical anxiety. Marissa was soundchecking when we got there, and it quickly became pretty apparent to me that this small bar had no green room or escape from the noisy, raucous energy of the ever growing crowd. I was tempted to ask her to stand outside with me for the 20 minute interview, but the 30 degree weather would likely make that difficult and uncomfortable. When the time came to finally say hello to her and try to sort something out for after the show, she got off stage from her soundcheck, came right up to me and said "Wanna do the interview in my car?"
"Marissa is really gonna let me in her car?!?!?!" i thought. And just like that she grabbed her down jacket and we were off to the enchanted lands of her Honda CRV to chat.
I am so appreciative of Marissa for doing this, and for all my friends who accompanied me to her shows that weekend. Special shoutout to my girlfriend Jen for hopping on the tape camera to give the interview that dated look I love so much.
