As a retired E6 Army I’m grateful for your thorough report. I was considering gaining my license through a college this way, but I won’t be treated like a raw recruit at the age of 47.🤣
Go GLMA, they respect veterans and half the people are above 30 years old . It's the most non-regimented maritime college. It's also the cheapest and chilliest.
I graduated from a maritime academy in 1987. It was a great experience and glad I did it. Engineering is the most difficult degree, but will open more doors to shoreside positions if one decides they don’t want to go to sea.
@@kellychuba thanks I did a year at community college and all it’s really doing is making the course work slightly lighter the first year. I will definitely take all four years. I’d rather not be rushed and be competent at the end of my time at cal maritime.
Hello, I have question about course to achieve a USCG license:; "SUNY" offers two "Grad Licese Program", and both of them are for becoming the Deck Officers. Do you know any college which you can get an "Engine" License, during the post-graduate education in United States?
@@gabrielletolentino273 But, unfortunately they do not offer the license in those master's course. I see only deck department is available for the bachelor's holder to directly achieve the USCG-accredited license, but not for the 3rd Engineers.

Astoria is good but they qualify you for a *very* limited license. As you try to work up in your career (eg; Columbia Bar Pilot) that starts to bite your butt.
Maritime students can live off campus but you must get approved to have day student status if you’re in the regiment and going for a license. I’d call the school to see if you qualify to get a more firm “yes” or “no” on it
I believe you can, but texas is alittle weird as im aware, but they are receiving TS Kennedy soon from there smaller ship, then eventually there nsmv ship(the Brand new ships each college is getting, with suny and mass being first) but I'd go for it!
Most people working in the industry hate A&M grads because they tend to be the laziest and most incompetent. I heard a lot of shit about A&M having issues with space for sea term and commercial sea projects being hard to get. GLMA is cheaper and they train you properly. I heard about GLMA's ship down for year maintenance and students went to A&M's TS General Rudder for sea term and it was so bad terribly maintained compared to TS State Michigan.
