Splatoon 1: Was I a good game? No, you were the best.

Day one Splatoon veteran here. This song makes me smile and cry simultaneously. Splatoon 1 was my first real outlet for self exploration and expression. I met so many friends, discovered so many aspects of myself. Over the years, Splatoon, its community and the culture around it has been with me through a lot and I hold so much respect for it. It’s grown and changed with me over the years to an amazing degree, and with growth comes decay, R.I.P Splatoon 1 servers in the coming months, I’ll never forget the memories I made.

Farewell Splatoon 1 online. I have so many memories attached to this game, from the excitement of the testfire, the joy of discovering this totally new game, the online matches, the booyahs, the splatfests, the little talks of Callie and Marie, the splatfests again, and all the rest... It's hard to say goodbye...

Goodbye, Spatoon 1. Never got to play you, but you gave birth to one of my favorite shooters. Thank you, for everything.

I'm really gonna miss this game... I love 3 and all, but the original still has a completely different vibe. In Splatoon 3, you get quick action-packed gameplay. The chaos theme influenced the trajectory of the game's design. For Splatoon 1, you get "we're squids, lets shoot ink and have fun!" vibes. It's enough to have a special place in not only my heart, but many others' as well. Looking back at it, I was only 10 years old when I got this game. April 2016, I finally got the game after watching ZackScottGames' gameplay videos and I was in love with the game. I played it enough to make it to level 50 and S Rank in only a few months. I still remember the emotions I felt when I saw Callie's defeat and Miiverse disappearing. Years pass, I still looked back upon those times as good times despite the emotional hits near the end. They were a time of innocence and fun, no real worries. I could just play without worrying or stressing about anything else in life. Fast forward, now I'm about to turn 18 tomorrow. I'm practically an adult at this point, and my perspective of the world has changed significantly. Yet this game is my way of revisiting the joy I felt during my childhood innocence. It really is a great escape to the stress I've been feeling as of late. It really pains me to think about how much time there is left. Then again, there's always a point in time where you eventually have to let go of the past. In this case, Nintendo is just kind of just ripping it out of my hands. And honestly, I think it's about time for me to move on. I'll still enjoy this innovative title while I'm able to, but yeah. The remaining month will pass by quickly, and hopefully I'll be ready to move on by then. I honestly don't know what to end this comment with. Just... enjoy Splatoon before it's gone forever, I suppose. God bless you all, and thanks for reading.

just got kicked out of my surviving turf war lobby after 45 minutes of playing post-shutdown :( rip splatoon 1

I feel so lucky to have grown up with this game. It fostered my competitive spirit, it doubled down on my love for marine biology, and it got me to realize that I loved sharing my drawings with the world. Miiverse is long-gone, sure, and this game’s setting sail tomorrow as well. But every day I go into my arts campus and resume my own game projects, I’m reminded it’s Splatoon that gave me the drive to chase this dream. All from this little game that could. My USB crashes when I try to hear this music from the Amiibo for some reason, so that’s why I’m here. Crashes when I try to play Mahi as well. My immediate thought was to hack my WiiU and install SaveMii + Pretendo to revive the glory days, but… truth be told, I’m honestly at peace with this ending. I just finished every Amiibo challenge tonight, and I can finally see that completed flipbook in Octo Valley. I’ve seen once-dormant servers take under a minute to find enough people for a match. Through this end, we’ve all had a chance to pay our dues and revere the humble foundations of something truly ink-redible. Thank you, Splatoon. You were always more than a memory.

I never noticed this before, but Callie and Marie's vocals are on separate channels, Callie's being prominent in one ear, and Marie's in the other. Its really subtle but its a very impressive detail that would go mostly unnoticed unless you had high quality headphones or stereo setup.

English time: 1 hour before the servers get shut off forever. I played a few matches for the last time and did everything i wanted to. I finally bought the original dynamo roller after procrastinating on it since the game released. Won most matches. Defeated Octavio one last time. Because lets be honest, the story mode is fun but it's not what people wanted to play splatoon for. When the servers get shut down, there will be no reason to play this game anymore, as sad as that is. I've played this game the very day it came out and I remember watching the credits with my brother, uncovering the art. He joked that if i did drawings and sent them to nintendo, they'd put it in the game (I had no idea about miiverse at the time). I, of course being a little child, believed him and drew the ever living SHIT out of this game. I was drawing it all day every day everywhere. And now I'm 18, still playing splatoon 3 and still drawing splatoon all the time. If it weren't for splatoon, I wouldn't be an artist, I wouldn't be an animator, I wouldn't have made any of my friends, I wouldn't have gotten into college, I wouldn't have anything to do with my life. I owe everything to this rinky dinky ass game. I love Splatoon with my whole soul and I'm so greatful i got to play this gem. It kills me that I have to say goodbye and that I had no time to prepare, but there's nothing we can do about it now. Thank you Nintendo for creating Splatoon Stay Fresh

Tomorrow the servers for the original Splatoon are getting shut down, and whilst I don't usually comment on videos I felt the need to do so now. Splatoon truly holds a very special place in my heart, I remember it releasing and thinking it looked like a ton of fun and wanting it very much. My brother ended up buying it and that's when I finally got to play the game. It arguably has some of the best gameplay of any game I've ever played, but even more so than just the gameplay, I loved the game for just the general atmosphere. To this day it still has such a unique feel, I love everything about the game. Yes, to some people it might just seem like a stupid looking kids game and here's the thing- it is, but that's why I love it. And I would argue, it is more than just a kiddie game I mean Mario is a game for kids too but that doesn't make it bad, It's part of what makes it special. I like that it's a silly wholesome game, It's fun and for games I feel like that's what's most important, It's not about how good the graphics are, or how mature the game is, It's about having fun, escaping reality and making memories. And to me, Splatoon has been a wonderful game to do so. I also love the characters, I love how quirky and fun they are, obviously you can tell from my username I absolutely adore Callie, she's my favorite fictional character of all time. And yeah, It's probably cause of nostalgia but that's fine. point is, I just adore this little game, if it weren't for this game I don't even know who I'd be today! its shaped my personality and style and humor, it's had an immeasurable impact on my life and this song will always make me think of that. I'm going to miss Splatoon when it's gone, we all will but remember, Don't be sad it's over, Be happy it happened. I'd like to say a few words before the Wii U servers shuts down same with 3DS and Splatoon 1, as much as I never played Splatoon 1 even when I had a Wii U at 2016, This was when I was 10 years old, and my first game in the Splatoon franchise was Splatoon 3 before I got into Splatoon and that's when I was around 16, Currently right now I'm 17, I'd like to say, as much as I never played Splatoon or Splatoon 2, I'll never regret playing this game when I first played Splatoon 1 in 2023 and playing it before Wii U servers even shut down, If I had the chance to go back in time and buy Splatoon in 2016 and even Splatoon 2 when I had an switch if the opportunity came up, I would do it as I'd be able to enter the splatfests. I'll never forget Inkopolis, Callie and Marie (The Squid SIsters) The Story Mode, Playing Turf War, and Ranked and even hearing the battle music. and even the lazy fat ass cat Judd that sleeps at the plaza non stop. Welp, there goes my childhood game. All I can remember is playing this game with my brothers, cousins, and my friends. This game is really my childhood, I got my own Wii U on Christmas 2015 and watched my favorite RU-vidrs playing Splatoon. Now Splatoon is comming to a end and I’m not ready, my favorite game when I was a little girl. It’s been 9 years with Splatoon. Thank you for creating my childhood. It’s the end of an era, and I know you guys are all here for the same exact reason as I am. This game changed my life, even though I played it after the final splatfest and I have never had more fun learning a game’s mechanics, through the ups and downs I’ve had with this game, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Even though it’s been years since I’ve last played it, it’s always held a special place in my heart as some chaotic mess of a big masterpiece, and to that I say… Thank you, Splatoon 1. Thanks for all the great memories you gave me, thanks to all the people I’ve played with for some real competitive fun, thank you to the content creators who broadcasted this for even more of the world to see and hear of how fun and special this game truly is. Most importantly, thank you to all the staff who took their time carefully crafting this bit-by-bit, even though everything might not even be perfect, this went from a game about Mario characters having a paintball game, to bunnies who are strangely squid-life, to this life changing experience I’ll never forget. I really wish I could’ve logged on for the final hours of Splatoon’s online service (yes I know Pretendo exists) This game brought so many memories to me even though I have long left it. But that is actually due to something I am unable to control such as my Wii U game pad just suddenly breaking. But even then this game brought the most important person to me to my life. It made me so many memories when I was younger and honest to god I’ll miss this game. A huge staple of my childhood. I’ll always love you Splatoon 💙

Man, I can't believe today Nintendo Wii U's and 3Ds' servers are shutting down... I don't know if I'll be still able to live without them, they were like, my entire chiIdhood... I can still remember how I first got this console with my brother for Christmas, and then my cousins also bought it. How the day after Christmas Eve I was watching Wii games with my dad and there we spotted Splatoon. When we didn't have our own phones yet, I would tell my dad to text my aunt that I would be on Voice Chat on Wii U and so my cousins and I would chat, there were also various effects and we would draw moustaches for example. How I played Splatoon 1 for the first time and how my dad had to beat the first boss because we couldn't, how I fooled around and tried to sing and dance like the Splatoon guys, how we tried to make friends with the people we played battles with (one of them was called Papa), how I played more than my cousin, and still had a lower level than him and never managed to hit the highest level, which was 50. I still remember how they announced the Nintendo Switch and when I found out there would be a Splatoon 2, I pre-ordered the console and that game and whenever I drive past the store where I picked up the Switch, those feelings are still with me. How my cousin had to beat us the last boss in Splatoon 1 because we couldn't beat it either, how I played The Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker with him and we almost died from laughter because as kids we couldn't pass that one level and it turned out to be very easy. And how I got Super Mario 3d World at the end of the school year for good grades from my grandfather, then with my cousins throughout the vacations, day in and day out, and later also through the winter vacations we would get up at 7 am and play Mario 3D World or Karts. And when we went to the beach, the adults bought us water guns and then we pretended all the time that we were Splatoon folks, as I went later with my parents to Fuertaventura and there I played like that all the time too. Sometimes coming home we pretended that my older cousin was Mario, my younger cousin Luigi, my brother Toad and I was Princess Peach, because that's how we always chose characters. I still remember how we bought a random game which was called "Tank tank tank!" and how we were beating a three-headed dragon or some big spiders. How we did Mii for the first time using camera scanning, where we almost cried from laughter. How we played Super Mario Party while eating sunflower. How we played Lego City Undercover, where the game lagged and kept going back to the moment where we got eaten by a shark and my older cousin yelled at us. How we played Rabbids Land, Chompy Chomp Chomp Party, Art Academy: Sketch Pad, Runner 2 and 3, Fast Racing Neo, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyrics, Color Zen, Armikrog or Zen Pinball 2... I still remember playing Tomodachi Life on 3Ds and crying along with the character who was rejected by the main character. I still remember how I got Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, how I decorated interiors, how I later dreamed with all my heart to become a designer. I remember leaving a stylus for 3Ds in my dad's office and having to get a spare until we found one. I remember Yoshi's Wooly World, whose soundtrack my brother tried to sing as he passed the last boss and almost cried. I remember Luigi's Mansion 2 and how I wanted to have the same ringtone for my phone as Luigi. I remember YoKai Watch, after which I used to go to the forest almost all the time, pretend to see ghosts and dream about that watch. I remember Cooking Mama, after which I wanted to be able to bake and cook like her, but nothing worked for me......... I'm going to miss those consoles soooooo much. Thank you for upbringing me. Thank you for teaching me so many things. Thank you for connecting me and my cousins. Thank you for an amazing childhood. I'll never forget you.

I still remember, day one, picked up my copy of the game, opened up the case and popped in the disc. And ever since then my life has changed, i had some amazing memories with a few buds, made new friends and even got my first exposure to competitive modes. The greatest game to ever show me so much stuff. So this is why the decision of Nintendo shutting down wii u/3ds Nintendo network has made me sad, yet appreciate everything that i got out of this service alone. As someone who’s been with splatoon since the start, it kinda hurts to see it go, but all we can do is remember the impact it’s had on our lives and keep moving forward, after all, sitting around and moping about the past just isn’t fresh!

we're approaching the last days of splatoon 1, as currently it's the 25th of march. i'm relatively new to the splatoon series, i joined with 3, specifically on the 26th of december, 2022. but this game and song has me absolutely enchanted, in love, cast under a spell, an inkantation if you will. i've never gotten to play 1 as i don't own a wii u, but i love this song. it means alot to me, for numerous reasons. (if you're reading this, you know who you are. hi!!!!!!) being able to truly hear this song in game during the period between a splatfest's end and a splatfest's results makes me really happy. i've never really heard it much then though as i'm either asleep during that time, or too busy playing matches so i don't have to break down crying while this song plays. but during that first splatfest where it played, shiver/frye/big man, i genuinely did start crying as i ran around the plaza, hearing it. (and by running around the plaza i mean staring into the squid sisters studio while zooming in on callie) we may have lost that splatfest, but it was so fun. probably my favorite (maritime) memories i have, not just in splatoon, but...ever. i got and won my very first 100x along with my amazing team (thanks you guys by the way, you're all amazing

out of all the credit songs, this one feels so much more emotional. all the other ones feel joyous and hopeful because of your victory. but this one is just…different.

Veteran of the first game here, played it since the Global Testfire. The first Splatoon had something special about it the following entries just couldn't capture. From the unique map design that encouraged creative ways of covering turf, the whole "underground" sport vibe Turf Wars had to them, and the innovative twist the game brought to the third-person shooter genre. I'll really miss this game so much, I fell in love with it from the first moment I played it, and it immediately became my favorite franchise to this day. I won't forget all those great moments with this game, the people I met and how it influenced my life. In a few months the Splatoon 1 servers will die, and even if fans revive them, it won't be the same as it once was. Thank you for everything, Splatoon, a little gem that fortunately survived the Wii U era, and that today is positioned among the great Nintendo franchises, and is one of the pillars of modern Nintendo.
