She did a concert in France and I was here. People didnt understand the lyrics but they cried. She is a diva. Portugal has a very rich history.

For David Letterman and those in the audience it was a shock, understandably, they had never heard anything like it. They didn't understand the lyrics of the song but they felt the strength of 'Fado' in their chests. And when the 'Fado' hits you, it hits you like lightning, you go up to the sky and when you wake up with those final chords of the Portuguese guitar, you come back to earth amazed because you've just heard the music of the Gods.

I'm portuguese, Fado is "saudade", a word that doesn't have translation in English. There are very kinds of that. The famous "fadista" (the singer" is Amália Rodrigues that give to the world the Fado. This one is "Ó gente da minha terra" (more or less "oh people of my land"- talks about the sadness that she has because she get from her own people of other there country

Quanto ao álbum dizia em inglês mesmo, pois é ao vivo em Lisboa, punha um pouco de cultura naquelas cabeças filhos de consanguinidade dizendo que é a capital de Portugal e do fado património imaterial.

DianaakaJedi pois é tudo isso poderia ter feito e muito muito mais mas tu sabes quem é o David Letterman? Ou o talk show que ele apresentava? Eu por acaso gosto do senhor e sei que não há nenhum desdém da parte dele em relação à Mariza, muito pelo contrário. Aquilo é um programa de humor como esses Jimmy Fallon da vida, logo o nosso fado não é a melhor música de fundo, por isso nunca mais viste a mariza neste tipo de programas. Mas o grande letterman recolheu a grande mariza

My father 72 is also Azorean Portuguese born and raised. He migrated to Canada at age 21 where he married and had me and my siblings. I use to ask him why he never became a Canadian citizen and he’d say the same thing. As much as he loves respects and thanks Canada he will always be Portuguese no matter where he is.

This same day Mariza appeared in Carnegie Hall & performed a concert that evening.She said that she always had heard about the great acoustics at Carnegie Hall & was really looking forward to perform there. I wish they would of recorded the concert etc. For us to enjoy this GREAT ARTIST. Arnold Bourbon Amaral

It's a lot of history, many ups and downs of this millenary land that was once the biggest empire in the world and was once the poorest country in Europe. This leaves marks carved in our hearts passed from generation to generation. Portugal is unique and the Portuguese language is the most beautiful in the world.

Minha terra....it's my country too, Portugal. An extremely emotional song (like most Fado) but Mariza adds so much to it. I am proud to be Portuguese, where people are allowed to show emotions, where men may cry and hug and kiss each other. I lived in Holland for a long time....such a different culture. The total opposite. People rather don't show emotions or "weakness" and all though Holland was good to me, I feel like an alien there. Viva Portugal, minha terra.

I grew up in Spain. I find Portuguese people to be naturally humble, elegant, polite and with a unique melancholy and nostalgic feeling to them. Always have had positive experiences with Portuguese people. Fado being a part of Portuguese culture is no accident. They show sadness, vulnerability and passion.

Mariza is a phenomenal singer as witnessed by her performance here 10 years ago on the David Letterman show. He congratulates her by shaking her hand and doesn't engage her in conversation. (She speaks excellent English). What I noticed was that he spent ONE second looking at her and never again! What a schlock he is, absolutely no class whatsoever. Good riddance! Mariza continues to shine with unbelievable verve. Good on ya, girl!
