There is a substantial difference between fado performers and any other performer in the world: they don't sing to you, they tell you. Their expressions, their voice inflections, the way they address the audience, involve you in the song in an unusual and magical way. I am Spanish and I adore Portugal. Whenever I go to Lisbon I visit many of those pubs in the Bairro Alto where there is always a guitar and one or two lutes waiting for any client to sing a fado if they want. It is for me an almost mystical experience. Fado is incomprehensibly unknown throughout the world, when in reality it deserves a place of honor in music.

I have seen her three times in concert and they are more memorable to me than anyone else. Watch “Quem Me Dera” and “Melhor De Mim” and “Barco Negro” and “Feira de Castro” …and pretty much everything else of hers😊

As a portuguese person, I LOVE FADO... my mum used to sing all the time, the songs of Amália Rodrigues, who took Fado around the World. She is the muse of Fado.

I am so lucky to have been at a Mariza concert in Budapest some years ago. She is not just a magnificant singer, she also has a lot of humor when she talks between the songs. I would like to suggest you to listen to Mariza - Gente Da Minha Terra ao vivo em Lisboa, it is beautiful.

It is a unique style of music with a lot of feeling and passion, which particularly defines the Portuguese people and their cultural heritage around the world. One thing that not many people notices......that concert is at open air with thousands of people and you can hear a PIN drop. That shows the respect we as a people have for fado and fado singers.

Hi. Buna ziwa , sorry for m porr romanian.I was surprised to meet romanians in Euforia (close to constanca) who knew Amalia Rodrigues, because their parents listened to her 50 years ago. So you see, romania likes fado , it is not new. I told to this lady to listen to Carminho (fado singer ) with HMB (pop music).

Fado is music for the soul: one voice, two guitars (one of them is the "guitarra portuguesa" that was shown on the video) and silence because it is all about living a mystical moment. In this case Mariza has an orchestra behind, but often she has only two guitar players with her. There are many other popular fado singers such as Ana Moura, Carminho, Cristina Branco, Gisela João... There are two types of Fado. Fado of Lisbon and Fado of Coimbra. The Fado of Coimbra (Also known as Fado of Stundents, because Coimbra is the City of Students) it's mostly sing by men and have more instrumental musics, with a variant of Portuguese Guitar (Coimbra Guitar).
