Exclusive interview
Jamaal Finkley sits down with husband-and-wife team Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Voice, Celebrity Apprentice, Shark Tank, The Job) and Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel) to discuss their 10-hour, five-part HISTORY miniseries THE BIBLE. Mark and Roma were kind enoug to invite me out to their Malibu residence to talk about why did they get involved with this series, and how do they measure success.
"The Bible" executive producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey say the notion that the devil in the miniseries is supposed to resemble President Obama is "utter nonsense." The miniseries set Twitter aflame Sunday night because the actor playing the devil looks the way the president might in several years. Obama's critics jested about the resemblance, while his supporters wondered if the casting was intended as propaganda. "This is utter nonsense," Burnett and Downey said in a statement Monday. "The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor.

Thank you for doing what God has called you to do.. through this my life has changed. I feel God's spirit and changed my life 360 degrees.. When I was watching the full series of The Bible, I can't explain the feeling, my heart is leaping with peace, love and joy which I can't explain. Thank you so much. May God bless you both and keep on doing things that pleases God.

I loved the series especially the part where Jesus ascended to Heaven with all the angels around Him, that just did something to my spirit. I’m commenting 10 years later but I tell you that series touched me like no other. The chosen is out now and though it’s a little different in some ways, it touches me the same. Being in your position I’m sure the Lord is pleased with this mini series because it glorifies His name. That’s what we are here to do is to glorify Him. I believe this is dress rehearsal for God’s great Kingdom to come. I pray that more project will be put out like this or maybe release it again because so many ppl are still lost and hurting especially now with all that’s going on in our world ppl need some kind of hope and Jesus is the only one that can give it to them. So thank you for your obedience to our Lord. Prayerfully someone will be saved from this mini series.

Like they've said, this is an INTRODUCTION to the Bible. They spent a ton of time and money to make a ten hour, high production value, mini-series. That is a Goliath-sized undertaking to say the least. There is no way they could've touched on every nuance of the entire Bible in 100 hours, much less 10. Be thankful they made this, for it will no doubt bring many, many people to Christ and the Bible. It has been a blessing in my life already! :) Peace.

I've been watching this movie over and over again and I have always felt Jesus with me. This actor has been as if he was Jesus in real life for his performance and his faith in God in real life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I just need to put this out here. I think we have to stop having this issue about skin colors, I don't care about how Jesus looked like, both in the movie and in reality, because it doesn't matter, it doesn't change anything. As someone said here below, God doesn't care about your "race" or skin colour, he cares about your heart and spirit. Focus on that instead of how Jesus looked like in a tv-series :) God loves us all no matter what.

He is Hispanic. The race doesn't really matter this is why I LOVE Whitney Houston and Brandy's version of Cinderella. Even though I believe Jesus may have been Jewish and wish people would show that, I don't mind that they didn't go that route in this series because the story is basically the same. King of Kings is my favorite Bible related movie or show even though they used a white man. The story didn't change.

Keith David Narrates it, and the actor who plays Simon of Cyrene is black and are in it. There are a couple of other characters also but they are mostly extras as far as I can see thus far.

Roma idolises mary and it shows in the series. there is definitely inaccuracies portrayed in this series , yet if it makes people think at least about Jesus and his message then that cant be a bad thing

This series had so much biblical inaccuracy. And I'm sick and tired of the stereotypical Jesus that this world has made. Even in Isaiah it says that Jesus had no physical features that we should feel to be drawn to him. Just read the scriptures

Prayer works? Tell that to the parents of defenseless children who have died after long and painful illnesses. Are you suggesting there are no Christian children that get sick and die or that if they do, it is because their parents or loved ones didn’t bother to pray for them? Prayer works? You are indulging in superstition and wishful thinking. There is no way to know that prayer works or that “coincidences” aren’t just that and nothing more. This is the 21st century. Grow up already.
