So grateful for the upload - it's amazing, and quite moving, to have access to these lectures from the great & sadly, late, Mark Fisher.

Realising that Mark Corrigan (Peep Show) is a simulacrum of the Last Man lol - obsessed with history and always speaking with a tone of detached sarcasm

i really wish he'd confronted autechre, squarepusher or even just electro and detroit techno. his thoughts on hiphop 90s-> present day and how it's changed would be interesting to hear about.

6:58 That sounds a hell lot like Marx' metaphor of the worker becoming an appendage of the machine

I mean that could be romantisizing it tho. Could be something else, like personal stuff. Not meaning to say that personal worries are somehow disconnected from the sociopolitical situation, but like it could be some factor in his life we don't know. Saying capitalism killed him perhaps only serves as to dishearten us even more.

@@az0r22 I'm not so sure, he explicitly said that politics saved him from depression, and that the only way he could bear to live in the current moment was by recognizing that it was temporary. That paints the picture of a man who conceived of his own struggles in the context to capitalism, so it seems fitting that the culmination of his struggles are framed in the same way.

Hauntology killed him (perhaps not literally but at least metaphorically). The original Derrida version ie. the spectres of Marx were everywhere for him. He could not see beyond Marx's capitalism critique. He couldn't see beyond his intellectual heroes of Post-modernism and post-structuralism. He could not see that the paradigm of these thinkers didn't have to be his paradigm. These concepts were killing his attempt at a new and positive way of thinking. So much so that he couldn't even imagine it. He was gaslit into ontological insecurity by his leftist intellectual forebears. Reading Fisher was so frustrating because he'd have all these interesting and insightful things to say but he just couldn't get past Marxism, it infected his soul.

22:21 I find obscenely amusing that these impressions of a stereotypical, dull depressive individual come from someone who was actually depressed himself. it's like self-deprecation to the nth degree

That's a very flippant remark. The two things are not the same. Who can know what triggered his own personal depression.

Wow, sadly this man was in over his head with whatever business he was in, clearly erratically and influenced heavily by technology in a bad way , he seemed obsessed with where ever his minds obsession was..smh
