@Chic 'N' Stu He never tried to kill his nephew. He looked into Ben's future and was so shocked about what he saw, that in his shocked state, he turned his saber on. He even said he was immediately ashamed of it. Bad luck just had it that Ben woke up that moment and reacted.
Mark was fucking golden even before his role as our beloved Skywalker. I could see him being an early days Bucky Barnes, to be fair. He seems to be one of the all-too-rare acters that could suit a role well enough, even if what he's given isn't entirely good.
Very true, Anjn. For example, Hamill nailed it as the psycho in 'The City'. While the plot of the movie was rather mediocre, he helped make it work with his performance. I was surprised to see him do this, after his mild mannered character of Luke Skywalker. It made me realize his true talent as an actor.
Somewhere out there, there's a parallel universe where Mark Hamill plays Freddy Krueger in a series of horror films, and Robert England lands a part in Star Wars.
Mark is so dreamy in The Partridge Family episode! Whenever I see him onscreen, this really goofy grin appears on my face, my heart starts beating faster, and I get butterflies in my tummy. It’s a lovely feeling!
I've always thought that. I'm a big fan of Ford, of course. He definitely has a great screen presence. But he essentially plays the same character in almost every movie. Mark is much more versatile.
Mark’s portrayal of Skywalker is so iconic and feels so ‘real’ to me. I’m still gutted at Luke’s character ‘arc’. To me, Luke’s story and the Star Wars trilogy ended after the Vader bonfire.
@Patrick Kiani she was the real Dreamgirl bro. I can't remember any girlface, who was near her beauty bro. Shes was a girl who turn your eyes into Stars and you falling in love with rigth and straigth at the moment, you see her the first time. Amor shoot me hard 😂 Wow
Remember her on The Streets Of San Francisco season 5 episodes 1 and 2 which were Michael Douglas's last episodes? She played Barbara Ross and was the one who shot Michael Douglas's character Steve Keller and Keller nearly died
Mark as Paul was great! I loved his entire Fight AND Flight reaction to bad news with the slow understanding that his brother is about to die. That was golden writing and Mark pulled it off amazingly
@@MagizardInternet What happened was unfortunate when you think about it...He had just become the face of the biggest franchise in movie history...then he immediately crashes his car and ruins his pretty looks. They Frankensteined his face back together good enough for him to complete the trilogy, but after that it was strictly stage productions such as "Amadeus" - where he won rave reviews. But when it came time to make the movie of the play, they casted an actor who looked exactly like Mark - except still pretty for the close ups. That film won the Oscar and would;ve catapulted Mark to A-List films, had his face been pretty enough to star in it.
Mark Hamill is a most impressive actor, he's still is. I really feeled sad for his brother in this tv series. It was so real. Damn, he's still that good!
Haha. Those scenes with the flick knife are hilarious. You could make a movie around that. Every time someone doesn't know who he is he pulls that out.
Mark Hamill also appeared on a memorable One Day at a Time from 1976. He played Schneider’s kleptomaniac nephew and was in just about every scene of the episode.
There were no reruns of soaps so no need to keep them, but the regular TV shows they kept the film and most them still exist and have been released on DVD or currently being re-aired on MyTV, Comet, and other over-the-air networks that came about when digital TV format came into existence.
Rian didn't do anything to Mark Hamill, he did something to a fictitious character named Luke Skywalker which doesn't belong to Mark Hamill. A character which Disney owns and can do with what they please. I feel though the old cast shouldn't have even been in the new movies. I didn't want to see them in an elderly state, it was hard to watch.
What about what JJ did to him was even worse he has Mark Hamill train for 1 year straight to get in shape and only uses home for a few seconds for a silent role at the end of the movie not even getting a reunion flash back scene .RJ is a piece of poop but JJ is the anus it comes out of .
@ItsWhosBetrayal I'm speaking in a technical / legal way about Luke Skywalker doesn't belong to Mark Hamill so he really doesn't get to dictate any direction the character goes. I'm sure they listen to his input but at the end of the day, the studios will go with their own direction if Mark's idea doesn't fit the narrative. Now if you think about Harrison Ford, he did get to dictate the direction Han Solo took and that was his death. He was able to leverage that deal of him only coming back to the franchise if they kill off Han Solo's character. Mark did however let it slip in an interview that his negotiation for coming back to the franchise was a full 3 movie deal so with everyone upset that Mark was supposedly killed off, that isn't true. He signed a 3 movie deal. He will be in EP9.
Mark Hamill also was in a couple different episodes of Streets of San Fransisco before he did Star Wars as well as the pilot episode of Eight is Enough. Great video!
Mark was almost unrecognizable in his first role he is only 17. He was cute as a button. I can see why he played luke hes like the all American boy. Or the boy next door. Blonde hair blue eyes & so baby faced. Great job finding all these clips. U know it's funny mark & harrison both got a lot of movie offers after star wars. Harrison made the Frisco kid , heroes & hangover street . All bombs. If not for indiana Jones I wonder if Harrison would have ever become a star. Being Indiana jones plus star wars empire strikes back he proved he could play another character with box office smashes. I'm sure he knows to be grateful to George Lucas bc if not for him putting him in American graffiti star wars saga & begrudgingly indiana Jones bc he said he didnt want to be like Scorsese casting denero in every role. Show biz really is about luck. Tom selleck was already cast as indiana Jones & by a stroke of luck magnum p.i. would not let selleck do the film , lucas & Spielberg were desperate & Spielberg suggested Harrison as s perfect indiana Jones. Lucas said no he didnt want him to be his " bobby denero" but Spielberg won out & so did Harrison big time. To be in two of the most popular trilogies of all time sealed him as a movie star. So it really is luck sometimes. I think what hurt mark was the accident that changed his face . Also he was very boyish looking for a long time even in his early 30s so it was hard to cast him as anything else. I dont know uf it was type casting bc Harrison given that great opportunity proved he wasnt type cast but ford had those movie star looks as carrie fisher once said he really looked like a bogart type . Carrie was so adorable all I remember movie wise her doing was blues brothers in a small part the burbs & when harry met Sally. I thought she was great and funny in films. Im.surprised she was not cast in more. I totally could have seen her playing the debra winger type roles.
There’s two other roles Mark Hamill played on TV you forgot to put in this video. The first is the role of David Bradford in the TV pilot for Eight Is Enough. When that TV show was picked up, the role of the oldest son David Bradford went to Grant Goodeve. The second was an appearance he made on an episode of the sitcom One Day At A Time, where he played a relative of Schneider’s who had come to visit and was caught stealing from people who lived in the apartment.
He did that after Stars Wars wrapped production, but before it debuted in the theaters. I think the 8 is Enough pilot aired in early 1977, so it wasn't before he did Star Wars technically.
He didn't want to be on that show after "Star Wars", naturally. He ended up smearing his pretty face all over his windshield in a car accident because he was all coked-up after partying.
He was so young &:cute & kinda small I just wanna hug him. He always played nice guys seems. Lucas did good casing him. Great research. Oh he Played a lunatic in the last clip b4 sw he has 358 credits
Mark Hamill was also in an episode of Petrocelli, series 1 called "The Outsiders" which was broadcast on 26th February 1975. He played a young man who was being held back by his father who was making him work at the family run auto workshop. Sound familiar? Harrison Ford was also in Petrocelli in an episode called "Edge of Evil" broadcast on 2nd October 1974. I seem to have a memory of both Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford being in the same Petrocelli episode but I can't find any information on that.
I saw Mark Hamill in Petrocelli, but it wasn't shown here in the UK until after Star Wars was released. I remember he looked the closest to Luke Skywalker than other early appearances.
thanks for this. these are great and show his strong acting range. He actually also starred as the eldest brother in the pilot episode of Eight is Enough. He had to withdraw from the series when it was picked up as he had been cast in Star Wars. This was a gamble as turning down regular series for a science fiction movie yet to prove itself was a risk that turned out to be worth it. Ps, i agree with other comments. your microphone or the echoey environment you are using makes your voice sound distant. excellent article.
I have a Sennheiser game one microphone headset for extreme clarity. perhaps give it a try. i do though add a foam pop cover to prevent plosives. you will be amazed by the difference. recording in a room without echo also helps. www.amazon.com.au/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00GWU8FTK
This is terrific thanks for the compilation. Also thank God mark didn't get stuck in the purgatory of cheesy 70s television. Btw was that john savage playing his brother in the tv movie Eric 1975. If not, who was it?
3:43 - (no diss on the narrator) but it's so funny to find so many people say "Rod Sterling" instead of the cat's real name of "Serling." I hear it all the time. Really liking this vid. So cool to see some of Hamill's early work.
Good video. It was nice seeing Mark Hamill and those older shows couple of them I haven't seen in years. Now does anyone remember Corvette Summer? How about The night the lights went out in Georgia with Dennis Quaid and Kristy McNichol
That old scene of Hamill screwing up that Porsche had me yelling at my screen, "WTF? If he has a F-ing 12" wrench in his hand, you don't just walk up and grab him, you get a baseball bat, or a 2x4, or something that will give you a little advantage! SHEESH!"
Technically Mark Hamill’s first movie role was in Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards which came out 3 months before Star Wars, but it was a very small role and he may have done it after Star Wars finished filming
Right after the first movie, he appeared as Snyder's no good nephew on "One Day at a Time." He kept stealing stuff, presumably for drugs. I was so sad to see Luke do that lol.
He did the pilot after Star Wars wrapped, so in this context "Hamil before Star Wars" it probably shouldn't be included, but you're right, people often forget that. The pilot aired a couple months before Star Wars was released. I bet the producers kicked themselves for letting the star of the biggest movie of the 70s go!
@@Ae13UPrime here's the funny thing. Mark wanted out from Eight is Enough and they said no, having Luke Skywalker would be GREAT for the TV show. However, Mark got into that car accident and Eight is Enough was forced to bring in Grant Goodeve to replace Mark. I often wonder, if Mark never got into that car accident and stayed with Eight is Enough, would it have helped Mark's acting career by not being so typecasted.
Mark Hamill was also on a couple episodes of The Streets Of San Francisco. Season 4 episode 1 Poisoned Snow he was a drug addict and season 5's episode Innocent No More he's a juvenile gang member. The episode Innocent No More is a post Michael Douglas episode and a very good one and Carl Weathers was also on it too as a San Francisco police officer
I first remember noticing Mark Hamill from his PARTRIDGE FAMILY appearance. Didn't know who he was but there was something special about him. You forgot to add his appearance on ONE DAY AT A TIME. The second time I noticed him.
