This video is about a man I always see on my way home from work. Mark Mankety been at this particular location since 2011. He's has been affected by the recession. He is 62 years old and lives along side of the freeway of 580 in Oakland, California. Mark manages to buy meals and walk around locally and is in desperate need of help.

He's a very kind man. I was in a car when I saw him during Christmas; we stopped at the red light and I saw him holding a sign. I overheard him telling another woman about a place that gives out free food. She was also in desperate need to make ends meet but I guess she was new to this. I was touched to see how kind he was, which made me questioned about life and fairness... I regret not giving him money that day and I swear the next time I see him, I will give as much as I can afford to.

Thank you for documenting the story of those who never really have a voice in our world! I hope we can all learn a little something from this video. This is definitely what social media is about =]

This man spoke some truth about the generosity of the lower/middle class. It's interesting how empathy hardly transcends into the upper class. It amazes me too. I recently came across your channel and I'm impressed man. I grew up in East Palo Alto & Hayward so a lot of what you display really resonates with me. I'm becoming a video hobbyist and your work is really inspiring. You're killing it man, good shit.

Homelessness is for sure a problem most people ignore... but one can never truly gauge the reasons behind WHY they have landed in said situation. I know theres some true needy people out there, and then there are those willingly living that lifestyle and giving those that truly need a helping hand look bad. You did an excellent job at showcasing this gentleman's story and in doing so, let's hope he got the assistance needed to rise up again. 👏👏👏

Even though I don't know who you are, but I live around this area...I pass by here all the time too and see this man. Felt like he been there FOREVER since I was really young, and I feel very bad for him. This is a very good video and touching video too, good job! Keep up with this :o There is a similar person who did something like this with all the homeless people and it was amazing...You helping this man spread his word and be known is definitely and wonderful thing!

Heard about this video on Instagram ( Tiffanee ) . Wow did it touch my heart . I'm a huge person on trying to change the world . And this video here really opens people's eyes. We must all cherish the family we have. The friends we have. Be thankful for the things you do have. Be thankful that god gave you another day to live. Like some people say, " A homeless person just might be an angel in disguise, trying to see how we humans are. What we have became.

Stuff like this make me enjoy volunteering at homeless shelters. The stories they have are incredible. Some yea are homeless because of drug problems but many end up turning to drugs after they become homeless and have given up. They figure, no one's helping them, might as well enjoy life somehow. It's really sad but it makes you realize even more that you never know what you have until it's gone.

Poverty doesn't, discriminate, on the basis of race. Also do have to criticize others, to feel better about yourself. Very negative comments, aren't necessary, nor helpful, You are either, a part of the solution, or part of the problem.

There are millions of people as unfortunate as him, if not in the US then in the rest of the world. Yet all the people commenting here are only interested in him and his well being. This man, Mark has had his 15 minutes of fame. He will manage, maybe even become a Hollywood star. But he speaks for others - the millions of homeless and other victims of capitalist society. People in their utmost stupidity believe, that if they help this one man the problem will go away. From their eyes, maybe.

Yeh, I've been one of the harshest critics of religion, but the bible says some interesting things about the poor...it says that the kingdom of heaven can be easily entered by the least of those among us, while the rich ultimately live in torment, because they are bound to their possessions. So it is, that what is flashy and appealing, is only the latest "gangnum style", while a little child or a beggar holds no pretense of pride in things, but seeks out the genuine and caring.

I really wish I was lucky enough to be homeless. It would mean that Monday mornings at 6am I did not have to get up for work. How good would that be?
