Back in 2016, I was working in a supermarket deli down here in Australia. The responses from customers when I told them Trump won were groans and disappointment. While I respect Senator Mark Kelly. There is something to note- While all wars and conflicts are bad, we shouldn’t be involve in every conflict that is taking place around the world that isn’t directly affecting America, it’s unsustainable. Indeed, we intervened during the first Persian gulf war in 1991, over oil. As oil fuels our economy. However, in 1994 under Bill Clinton’s administration we did not intervened to prevent the Rwandan genocide that resulted in 800,000 casualties in just 100 days. If we say we are the policemen of the world then we should apply them equally across the world. But as mighty as our armed forces and economy are we can’t be everywhere, hence why we intervened in Iraq/Kuwait instead of Rwanda. This is a unfortunate reality that many nations across the world face in terms of geo-political strategy, and America isn’t immune to it. Trump is at the very least trying to focus on domestic issues, seeing that we are suffering, instead of being involved in endless wars. With many governments that we had/have helped in the past were very corrupt, taking our help for granted (Ukraine, Afghanistan, South Vietnam, 1980s Iraq, 1940s and ‘50s Cuba, Peru to name a few corrupt Governments), not to say our help was obligated. If you ever heard the saying ‘giving is receiving’, it kinds rings true on the macro level as well.
Good point, but a couple of faults. First, one of the primary reasons the US was hesitant to get involved in the Rwandan Genocide was that it happened amid the fallout from Operation Restore Hope and the Battle of Mogadishu, which was very fresh in the minds of the voting public when it came to conflicts in Africa. Secondly, we have a duty to the international community to involve ourselves in peacekeeping and international stability; our status as the world's most powerful country isn't a laurel, it's a responsibility. And it's a responsibility that Trump treated as a joke when he randomly fired his Secretary of State over Twitter in front of a global audience.
Trump is comedy gold! Although it's more enjoyable to laugh at him when he's NOT occupying the most powerful position in the world. So, Americans, please vote blue!
